Yeah because Derpy voice actress Tabitha St. Germain thought Derpy was a boy so in the original she mistakenly gave Derpy a boyish voice

This episode sadly had a knock on affect when it comes to Derpy. Due to the backlash parents gave to her, she would sadly be phased out of the show, not even appearing as a background pony, for quite a while.

Let's see. In this episode, Rainbow Dash was: -The one most upset about Apple Jack not coming back (other than her family). -Nearly backed her down and demanded an answer. -The most vocal calling her out in the sorting room. -One of the ponies pulling the cart chasing after her. And ACTUALLY TEARED UP when everyone convinced Apple Jack how much she mattered! If that's not proof Rainbow loves her as more than a friend, I don't know what is. Can we all just agree this ship is canon?

In the original audio for this episode, Rainbow Dash actually called Derpy by that name, and her voice was different. Someone raised a big stink over her sounding too stereotypical "special needs", but there's a strong suspicion that it was some entitled fans who didn't like her voice (by this point there were some fan-made animation/audio projects with her, and the suspicion is they made a stink because Derpy "sounded wrong"). The studio didn't want to be insensitive to special needs kids, so they redubbed Derpy's lines with what you saw. I'm not going to name names because of possible spoilers, but there's another character that never got any lines in the show probably because of a distinctive voice in fan animations, and the studio didn't want to deal with that crap again. You and your girlfriend have encountered THAT kind of boundary-ignoring "fans."

No, parents complained about her being offensive to disabled people, so they went back and had Ashleigh Ball go back and re-dub the scene, removing the mention of Derpy’s name and giving Derpy a more normal sounding voice.

On some other notes: The Cherrychanga scene is the funniest part of the episode This episode created a LOT of fun memes and jokes about Pinkie's wrath if you break a Pinkie Promise The ending sequence has created a decent number of fanfics detailing how Rarity "gets back" at Rainbow Dash for leaving her behind. Some of which have more appeal to me personally than others.

Since everyone is talking about the Derpy scene, figure I mention that the cherry sorting scene is a direct reference to a similar scene from I Love Lucy, sorting chocolates. And now you know why you NEVER break a Pinkie Promise!

The replacement voice feels tagged on since it wasn't originally planned for this episode, but the way Derpy sounds in the future -- well to the future since the showrunners were nervous about putting her back to the foreground -- sounds better than either version of this episode.

First off seems obvious rainbow and AJ are written as a couple. Moving on, my head cannon so far for why Pinkie can do what she does is this. Remember when discord said laughter was his favourite I think subconsciously or actively he has done as many gods of myth did and has given her a blessing or boon. This can neatly wrap up for me the Pinkie sense the seemingly being in two places at once, teleporting and the physics breaking maneuvers she sometimes pulls off.

One of my favorites of the season, mainly because I so identify with AJ here (middle-sized fish in a small pond, constant praise creating performance pressure so that I made the wrong things the center of my life for a while, etc.)

Yeah, I remember it being a real mess when it happened. People complaining that the original voice was mocking people with development disabilities like Down’s Syndrome. So they changed it. But then that just brought equally loud condemnation from people saying they were suppressing representation of people with developmental disabilities.

Derpy spoke but they changed her voice and erased RD calling her Derpy because a few people complained while the most fandom loved her as she was Which make it actually offensive since they preferred to hide representation rather than show her as she was intended initially (for this season and forward) Luckily, fandom fought back and since then she didnt got more censo except for her name, but we all agree to ignore hasbro and ahe is called derpy or ditsy

Iirc, the VA thought that Derpy was male. Hence the deepened voice. Unfortunately, it came across as a bit much, which wasn't her intent. VAs have to rely a LOT on direction.

Keep an eye out for Derpy. Her first speaking appearance was so controversial that the animators had to stop putting her in the background for a while.

I think the next episode that is even generally considered bottom-half of the show is in about 20 episodes. This part of the run is insane, with a decent chunk of the top 10 and a looot of the top 25

Great reaction as always! This episode has always been a favorite! It’s hilarious, not just Derpy either, but the I Love Lucy homage with the cherry line, Pinkie Pie, Rarity at the end, so much great humor throughout. The score has some good action beats to the end, too.

Normally in an episode like this where the character needs or is being forced to do something they don't like, they make the one in charge a horrible person and makes it as miserable for the hero as possible. But here, Cherry Jubilee is nice. She's accomodating and she seems to truly appreciate Applejack.
