Legit was checking so see if your reaction was up like an hour ago. Perfect timing. XD

Dinker

Let's go!

JuneBug

Not sure who voices the girl on the screen in the beginning, BUT it does sound like Luz!

Marceline_mother

The voice at the beginning is Luz's VA from The Owl House

David G.

Sarah-Nicole Robles is Luz and Patience!

Alex Malix

Love her saying she's getting Collector vibes from the character voiced by Luz

SauceyRed

WOOO LET'S GOOOO!!! I'm sure she's gonna have a totally calm reaction to some scenes in this episode, can tell from the thumbnail LMAO

Marceline_mother

Not Witch Hat Atelier (aka my favorite anime/manga) catching strays from Mosco

David Johnson

A literal Personal Digital Assistant.

Marceline_mother

Fun fact: Krash's voiced by Zeno Robinson, aka Hunter from The Owl House, and since you mentioned Witch Hat Atelier, he voices Custas there too

Dinker

So for the "Don't drop" comment I think have a theory: Frankie meant it as "don't pass out." But remember when they snuck into the park in the pilot? The places that were way above where they lived as kids? How could kids get all the way up there? What would happen if you couldn't get all the way up there? Idk, I just think it was a flashback to a traumatic moment from their childhood.

Alex Malix

Mosco squirms when they take spaghetti out of the container, and then she squirms when the blue spaghetti goes back in. There is no pleasing this Scottish Woman

Midnightroze

The "high pitch annoying voice, underage yet super sexualized" anime girl archetype part is so relatable. I love anime, but its sadly a still too common trope. That being said, theres still a HUGE chunk of anime (especially modern) that writes its femme/woman characters like actual people (Apothecary diary reaction from you would be SO peak)

David Johnson

What I read was that Luis was struck by a train while attending a film festival in Annecy, France, back on June 26th.

Stephen Mumford

You didn't recognize the voice at the beginning? Crikey!

OnTheSpectrum7342

Also Hawks from My Hero Academia, and if Mosco hadn't said that she doesn't watch anime, I'd 100% be suggesting that one!

OnTheSpectrum7342

If you ever change your mind about anime, I know of some fantastic ones that really don't sexualise women. The works of Makoto Shinkai (three movies called Your Name, Weathering With You and Suzume) all have male/female romantic leads, mixed with some kinda supernatural twists, all tied together with some beautiful artwork and animation. These are movies rather than series, so they also wouldn't be that much of a commitment. Then, My Hero Academia's an obvious one. There's definitely one character you're going to despise, and they don't shy away from skintight bosysuits on the female heroes, but the attractiveness of those heroes are rarely the focal point of the scenes with them, especially in the later seasons. But, if you enjoy Western superhero media and want to get introduced to a really unique world where (almost) everyone has some kind of superpower, I'd say it's at least worth checking out. One other that I would absolutely consider is To Be Hero X, because I think your brain might actually explode because of the animation style and sheer beauty; another really interesting look at a society revolving around superheros; and the really interesting way that the story is told. It's got a lot less episodes than My Hero, so again, as animes go, TBHX isn't that big of a commitment.

SauceyRed

Oh I didn't realize the rough animation scenes at the end were BY the person who died, that makes a lot of sense, but yeah, RIP :(

Flyby Stardancer

What are you doing, Mosco??? FOCUS ON YOUR VACATION

_.dearapril._

I instantly recognized luz and hunter im so happy they're here

Tristan N Milner

After Invincible, the blood and gore in this is quite tame. My movie nerd blood boils. Uploading human consciousness into a computer was the plot of Tron. A movie from the 80's, which was also in Kingdom Hearts II with the original actor repriasing the role. The (not) Amazing Digital Circus did not create this idea. They just the most recent to use it and did a poor job of it.

Amaya Harig

I'm not sure how far the show is willing to go but since Andi mentioned a blow up doll (I know Andi probably meant it as a joke) I wonder if there could be some Gewns that are used for some people's sick pleasures, I wouldn't shock me that some people may invest in Gwen droids for sex work 😰😰😰😰😰 (similar to Fizz or the female and male Androids in DBH)

Tim Sammuals

I love Dana getting Sarah and Zeno to be in KOG. Here's hoping a few more Owl House voices showing up in future episodes

Albedo12

Definitely check out Frieren - lots of good female (and male) characters in that show, and superb animation.

Iago24

Frankie keeps trying to heal the cop because if Gwen killed a park cop in Sparky's club, the retaliation would be extreme. Sparky would most likely try to have Gwen dismantled and either turn Andy and Frankie to the authorities as scapegoats, or just kill them as loose ends if he found out. No matter what a POS the guy is, he's more trouble dead than alive.

Helen Dingo

Since nobody has mentioned it: We saw Gwen's tendrils in the original teaser for the show before the release of Episode 1.

Marceline_mother

I think MHA falls under the oversexualization of minors she was talking about

Liam Gradwell

Yes Mosco, I just knew you were gonna see how the gore parallels to Invincible level. They went DARK! 😱 Also, love member of the Owl House cast coming into this show. I just love Sara’s character here and Zeno’s is cool too. 💙

Corvo Joka

I heard: "Andy?!" and then "Lea!".

Yoshinatorsaurus

Yep, that's Luz at the start, alright. And Krash is voiced by Zeno Robinson, AKA Hunter! I'm so happy Dana gets to work them again. Now I'm just hoping Mae Whitman (Amity) will return, too.

Miranda Corvus

I think we can safely assume 'Liam' is the supposed lab partner Gwen couldn't mention

L Frances

I'm not surprised by your takeaway on anime if you tend to watch the English dubs. Not that shouty characters is not a factor in Japanese, but it feels more natural, less forced. My brother can only tend to watch anime as dubs cause they can't process it if their attention's split between subtitles and visuals. So I get having barriers to watching original language, but it still makes me sad, cause I know those shows are built for the Japanese language and it suits them so well. But if that's not the case & you are talking about Japanese language version, that's still fair.

Robert Stubbs

Agreed, highly recommend. Would love to see a Patreon reaction to the show.

SQX Barto

Speaking of anime: I'm in love with the Villainess :) I highly recommend it to you. No fanservice at all.

Gihellcy

Hurray, Dana did get the VAs in the divorce \o/ Patience (the talking Ipad) is voiced by Luz's VA, and my boi Krash is voiced by Hunter's VA ~~

RaisedEyebrow

I hear "Andy! Leo!" in Andy's flashback. Not sure what "drop" is in that context. But since you pointed out that Gwen might have been saying an "L" name during the prolonged, my guess is maybe a colleague?

Angelus Lupus

Ok: Timestamps relating to dates, hiding things in the TEA Lo-Fi's... That's gonna bend my brain too much, LOL. I guess I'll be counting on the had work of eagle-eyed nerds and hoping for a wiki (always love checking those for trivia and easter eggs)

Alex Graham-Heggie

AJ was the one who had Andi running diagnostics all night in episode 1. Her supervisor? But I don't think Andi could have killed them, accidentally or otherwise. They wouldn't have just fired her. They'd arrest or liquidate her. Glad someone else recommended Delicious in Dungeon. I'd love to see yours, Elijah's and/or Morgan's take on it.

Wealthy Toad

Aw now I'm sad :( I saw the animation bits at the end but I totally missed the part where it's in memory of the person who animated them that's so sad.

Ryan

The pilot gave us a false sense of security that this show would be wholesome but gritty. This episode took that false sense of security and fucked it in every orifice clockwise from the left ear with a sandpaper dildo. Every reactor is like "I recognize that voice" and yes, yes you do. It is none other than Sarah-Nicole Robles, aka, Luz Noceda. Could be 10/28/63, could be 26/05/68 - since 1028 x 3F = 3F9D8 in hexidecimal, which is 4136 * 63 = 260,568 in decimal. But why would this show be referencing the birth date of the Crown Prince of Denmark? No, not Hamlet. Dana, writing The Owl House: "What can I get away with?" Dana, writing Knights of Guinevere: "What can't I get away with?" The park police officer feels like Gaston, Frollo, Clayton and Prince Hans all rolled into one. And his creepy vibe matches the alleged contents of an alleged storage room at Disney where all of the animators' ... let's call it "fan art" ... is kept under lock and key since Disney owns everything they create while on studio grounds. Coming off of a movie that's taken almost seven years to make, I completely understand the conflicting feelings of wanting more NOW, and wanting people to have the time it takes to make awesome shit.

Someday Sera

I've only watched a few episodes, but I do really like frieren, it's a weird mix of slice of life and this oppressive existential horror based on her very long lifespan, and watching others age around her. It's fanbase is famously...gross...but the show is quite good. Likewise, apothecary diaries is fun, if a bit of a slow burn. You'd probably enjoy both. Can't say I've seen the rest you mentioned. If you never watched it I'd also recommend Little witch academia, which reminded me a lot of owl house. I don't watch a ton of anime either these days, but those, plus spy x family and one piece are the ones that have caught my attention in recent years.

Someday Sera

oh that's right, when it cuts to her thrashing around on the table (repair halo?)

Someday Sera

I've only watched a handful of episodes, but the third (?) episode REALLY stuck with me, it's such a great illustration of how the advancement of technology dramatically changes the world over time, and feels like a good metaphor for medical tech in particular. The one where she's teaching about defensive spells.

Someday Sera

That's definitely the implication, and what sparky intends to sell her for. I can't imagine we'll really go there since gwen is...lethal...but...I could see gwen networking with the rest of the androids and seeing some of those ones go rogue in some sort of uprising montage or...something. If gwen "is the mold" and can assimilate other tech, that raises a lot of possibilities on that front.

Someday Sera

of course not, it's an old trope, but that's the current pop culture one to do it, and one relevant to moscos audience, so it makes sense to refer to it that way. (and really, tadc is HEAVILY borrowing from soma in the first place, which is probably the most interesting use of the trope, despite my deep love for tron)

Someday Sera

i recognized the voice, but couldn't place it, didn't recognize hunter at all. I also recognized the officer's voice, but can't figure out where, looks like he plays older men in a lot of rpgs i've played, but nothing really stuck out to me.

Someday Sera

and to be fair...a lot of her character involves kind of lampshading the trope, so it's somewhat forgivable.

Someday Sera

and others...not so much, I love one piece, but it fails HARD in that respect. At least when it comes to art direction. I do quite like what i've watched of apothecary diaries, I need to get back to that one.

Midnightroze

Real!!! I watched over 200 eps of One piece but never continued, the post timeskip artstyle just irritates me so much which is a shame because I genuinely did enjoy the characters 😭

Patneu

If it was just about climbing up, though, people probably wouldn't have cheered someone on to drop.

Patneu

Wow, didn't expect Sparky to piss her off so badly that she'd totally miss the sapphic stuff he was referring to over it!

Curtis Harvey

I wanna say blue lung is more like chronic heavy metal poisoning rather than a communicable disease.

Dinker

When you have kids doing something risky, that other kids wouldn't do, and they slip. If they're barely hanging on to the outside of an automated transport and it looks like they might lose their grip and fall.... Would you expect every kid to be a decent person and be horrified at the situation?

Hope Pettett

I highly recommend Frieren! I understand why anime can be hard to watch, but Frieren avoids that trope, and has beautiful voices both in dub and sub! I can also actually recommend Spy x Family, though it might not be your thing.

ZackAkai

Apothecary Diaries is *excellent.* I'll also toss Spy x Family into the ring, it's easily one of the best new anime I've seen in a decade.

Adam McLeod

You know, I wonder if they're going to take the metaphor with Guinevere and Disney properties to the logical endpoint. Disney movies in many cases basically replace the original fairy tales and stories they're based on. Those original tales often having very dark aspects that were often times meant to teach real life lessons. With Guinevere looking at the tomodachi and seeing the cute cartoon rabbit become a more realistic render of a rabbit and then the rabbit being ripped apart I think that's what's being set up. All of the Princess brand around her likeness is a version of her story so sanitized that it no longer even mimics reality.

Tristan N Milner

Soma was a really good game, even though it is over 10 years old.

ShadowLightMew

There are many really good anime that respect the female characters thankfully. As for Knights of Guinevere, so many questions and we have dates for the next episodes so not too long of a wait on getting even more questions :)

ArcticBanana

Gwen kind of feels like a combination of Alita from "Battle Angel" and Lucy from "Elfen Lied", with a bit of Gollum. 19:34 - I love that they animated Krash removing his gloves correctly. Good to know that our underground medical practitioner knows proper procedure.

lightanddarklove

On your comment of “Leave and go where?” To what Frankie said, I think their plan is to get enough money to leave Park Planet. In episode 1, we see Andi looking at the billboard advertising a trip off-world. That billboard was near the bus stop, probably both of them use that transit system multiple times a week, and I have a strong feeling that’s what Frankie was referencing.

Runeless

All of those are great but also Dandadan is a surprisingly good one. The main character is a gyaru who goes against a lot of tropes about girls in anime. There's obviously the first episode which is terrible in terms of it's feminist themes and definitely an SA warning for that. But it's really good and there's also a character whose whole schtick is to make fun of the anime girl trope with how annoying she is

Runeless

Also, that's someone else shouting for Andi and then Andi shouting presumably their name back

Craig Rangoon

The anime for Mosco is Dorohedoro: Violence, mystery, world building, buff cinnamon rolls.

Shay

32:00 I know at least 3 newer animes that don't hypersexualize young women and the women are written well instead of annoying with baby voices if you'd like to get into anime without having to deal with those tropes: Witch Hat Atelier, Frieren and Apothecary Diaries (all of which are, unsurprisingly, written by women) Nvm, you've already been recommended them😂

Phoenix_mercury

Also dub Vs sub can affect voices too, I watched code geass in dub(highly struggled with sub) and wasn't a particular fan especially early on of one female characters voice Vs something like haikyu which I've been watching the dub(didn't struggle too much with the sub for this one) and haven't found any issues especially as the one that generally gets the "squeaky voice" moments tends to when it's fitting(panicking/stressed and the voice jumps up in pitch), and some just depend on the character

Raevyn

Snow White with the red hair is an amazing anime. It's listed as a romantic but in reality it really takes time more on the friendship side VS the romance. The main character is an herbalist who leaves her shop and runs into a prince and his two friends. But the prince acts more like a typical young adult VS a spoiled prince lol and she shows them how to make medicine. I haven't seen it in a while but I think it's a really good anime especially since it doesn't sexualize or make the wemons voices that high pitched scream

Anvildude

So I figure the "Sword and Shield" imagery in the credits is indicative of Frankie and Andie's roles. Frankie wants to protect people and things. She wants to make people happy, she defends and interposes herself physically if she needs to, or even emotionally. She also puts up shields against the world around her. Her shield hides things, both from herself, and things about her from the world. Andie wants things to change. She's less of a fighter than Frankie, but she's more aggressive and direct. She wants to cut through the bullshit, stab at the heart of things. She's attack, attack, attack, and has little thought for her own safety while doing so. She's seen the inner workings of the park, and knows that it's a boil that needs to be lanced. And so Frankie is shown with a shield, and no weapon, while Andie is shown with a sword, and no shield. And both of them are broken, both of them are worn and cracked. But of the two of them? Despite Frankie being a TANK, I think Andie is actually the more dangerous. Because when she decides she wants you gone? She just does it.

Anvildude

I was getting SO FRUSTRATED when you got so hyperfocused on the 'drop' thing and the indistinct memory shouting/name (it's just slang and foreshadowing! Let it foreshadow and get slung!) and kept looking away RIGHT as Andie's eyes went flat.
