The thing about power is that it convinces you that it's making you noble and that what you're doing is righteous. To Fluttershy, somwone who isn't used to flexing her backbone, it can be very easy to get drunk on that newfound power without realizing that she's gone too far. In the end, this episode is about knowing when to show restraint.

damn i should've saved my comment on the previous video for this one, so i'll just repeat it. given the main trio focused on in this episode Elijah ships Fluttershy/Pinkie Pie Mosco ships Rarity/Fluttershy (i think, they only really mentioned it in one episode) it'd be funny if you ended up shipping Pinkie Pie/Rarity

Oh this one.... yeah, if it's not TMMDW that is the most disliked of the season, it's this one. Mostly the same reasons too, Merriwheather Williams is just not a good fit for this show. It feels so off to suddenly have everypony in town being such utter assholes out of nowhere; Fluttershy goes way too far too fast; her whole rant at Pinkie and Rarity does a lot of damage, since either she is making this all up on the spot just to hurt her 'friends' as much as possible, or this is how she really thinks about them; and how is Iron Will the villain in all this like the ep keeps trying to make him? He gave some overall good, if maybe not ideal advice, that clearly has worked for many before, Fluttershy took it way to far on her own, and when he confronted her for the money she owed him, accepted her complaint about being unsatisfied, stuck to his claim, and left. That said it does have some good stuff, A Duck Season joke is always great, and oh dead gods the perfect use of "The Walking Man" theme. (The music playing when Fluttershy walks back to her cabin after insulting Pinkie and Rarity is a version of the theme that would play at the end of the 70's Incredible Hulk TV show.)

I like that ironwill's plan works but not as intended. It doesnt make people asesertive but into bullies. Thats why fluttershy reclaimed the guarantee since it doesnt does what he said it does, and guy was so used to his attitude just scaring others into comply that he didnt know how to react to someone 'putting down their hooves' and saying they wont pay since they arent happy with the results

10:27 rarity is a sorceress, so yes, charisma built Pinkie is a bard Fluttershy is a druid So it make sense pinkie and rarity are the ones on the episode, they are the charisma based characters teaching the wisdom base low charisma character about being assertive using persuasion and deception, but iron will teached her intimidation instead

twilight is a wizard, rd is a rogue and aj is a barbarian thats why those characters dont show up in the episode, iron will granted temporal proficiency and expertise in intimidation to futtershy, granting enough buffs to overpass her dump charisma and be a high roller, but after seeing that isnt the same as persuading or deceiving, and hurting her friends, she realize she isnt satisfied so puts her hoof down to say no, when the dm says that iron will tries to make her frightened... thats a wisdom save, and she has proficiency on it and a good bonus, so isnt scared of it and remains into "no is no" to which iron will, used to scare otehrs itno doing what he wants, dont know what to do and dont bill her and go, stuff that rarity and pinkie couldnt do sicne they dont have proficiency in wisdom saves like fluttershy in the end, she relies on her wisdom based skills like animal handling, perception and insight to "make her own way"

I don't know why this episode gets so much hate. I genuinely think it's one of the season's best! Seeing Fluttershy becoming more confident and standing up for herself is always great, and I think finding the line between assertive and mean is a really important lesson for kids. Also, I think Iron Will is a good foil to said lesson, and I like that he actually seemingly takes what Fluttershy said to heart.

Of course the reason Iron Will is at Fluttershy’s cottage to collect the fee for the seminar is so that we can have a scene with Rarity and Pinkie in conflict with him, but within the narrative he could just be a nice guy who legitimately gives his attendees 24 hours to test his techniques before collecting the fee. I like to think it’s the latter.

How they did the "camera movement" was just careful shifting of the 2D assets making up her head to mimic a 3D rotation. (He says "just" as if that were an easy thing to do.)

Remember, this was 2011. Rigged character animation still had a bad rep at the time, so when they did stuff like the “slow head turn,” it REALLY blew people away. “Hey, it’s not just a cheap alternate to hand-drawn! They’re actually COOKING with those puppets!”

Oh, Mosco. Rabbits *CAN* eat all those things. As in, they can bite into them, chew, and swallow. But like all pets, just because they can, does NOT mean they should. I do think the misconception about rabbits eating the orange part of carrots comes from Bugs Bunny, even though his original VA did not like carrots. Mel Blanc even had a bin nearby to spit them out after chewing them for the recording.

The sliding scale of anthropomorphism on display. Some of us just accept the ponies as stand-ins for humans at this point, therefore their pets have to play by “real pet” rules. Nobody put Winona and the Diamond Dogs in the same room or we’ll just recreate the “Pluto vs Goofy” problem.

This episode has one of my favourite obscure references: When Fluttershy is sadly walking back to her cottage after calling herself a monster, the music is a reference to the 1970s Incredible Hulk TV show. Why did they include that reference of all things? Who knows!

The two 80's style valley girl ponies being rude to Fluttershy reminds me of the scene in the Fried Green Tomatoes movie where Kathy Bates' character is cut in front of in the parking lot by two similar girls. Fluttershy needed to go all Towanda the Avenger on them. Unfortunately, there are toxic people like Iron Will teaching naive people like Fluttershy the wrong techniques. Fluttershy is lucky she's got friends willing to help her learn the right way to stand up for herself.
