Looking forward to listening. Thanks guys.

HELL YEAH. A Superman + Batman level teamup

ploob

Great job identifying the pattern of this type of propaganda popping up in Libya, Russia & Israel 🙏

William

Has “breaking the population” EVER worked?

Doug Cartel

there are tons of examples of moron 'strategists' who think slaughtering civilians causes them to turn on their government and as far as I have seen it has failed every single time weirdly, the civilians tend to get mad at the guys shooting at them and not the guys who allegedly started the war

Doug Cartel

"War and rape go together" might be true in general but it's typically stochastic, and Israel has hinged its argument on the idea not so much that it happened but that it was organized, which is the opposite

Carter Mize

grim episode but I think it’s what we all need to hear. I’m afraid people in the West will become numb to the news about Palestine as the days grind on. Ali’s words on the situation have really fired me up about it.

drizzly_november

Hasn't it repeatedly been shown to do the opposite? After WWII, post-war assessments showed that Allied bombing actually bolstered German morale, same with the massive bombardment of North Vietnam. It's a lesson we keep refusing to learn.

Jason Thompson

Germany and Japan eventually collapsed though, and the US can’t forget about WW2. It’s all we ever think about.

The War Nerds deserve applause for this, as well as the other episodes on the Gaza War/Genocide. From the first days of this conflict, the War Nerds have provided timely, accurate, and insightful commentary on this catastrophe, shaming such outlets as the NYT and WaPo. At least in the War Nerd universe, truth is not the first casualty of war, pax Aeschylus.

Doug Cartel

"I feel like they declared they would annihilate the Gazans because they couldn't actually do it" I mean, this is like the 4th time Israel said they would wipe Hamas out to a man and this is also the bloodiest fight the IDF has ever seen (no solid casualty figures but IDF disability org claims 20,000 IDF have become disabled since the start of the war- this obviously includes everyone from PTSD to explosion survivors). I mean, 20k wounded is an insane figure after hearing your whole life about how Israel survived 4 to 1 odds with like 300 KIA or whatever wild shit This is all to say that, they are leaning very heavily on deprivation to do all their dirty work because they can't actually wipe them out, though they are trying very hard. At least that's my interpretation.

William

They collapsed because of shortages of nearly every raw material, and in Germany’s case especially, the most important raw material of all, skilled labor

Dorst Savijeski

Even if the Israëlis manage to continue this and chase/cleanse the Palestinians and get Palatine's demographics in check. Their forgetting that Hamas has shown on Oct 7th that it can beat their ai turrets, and future proof superior defence strategies. This only has political objectives and won't serve Israël well long term.

Dorst Savijeski

My take on the European attitude is that it's a symptom of a lack of overal vision, Israël is a proxy for identitairian signaling.

Really great episode guys. Thank a lot to the war nerd team and Ali.

Is Cockburn coming back to discuss his article on AI and recent world of wars wars, specifically his bits on Israeli AI?

Hans Anders

The Christian-democratic identification with Israel was always there. As was the Atlantic deference to the USA. What’s new though are the far right parties who see Israel as an inspiration for how to deal with domestic minority populations.

Dorst Savijeski

I don't agree, the fascination goes a lot further than inspiration regarding policy. In addition I would like to add that it's a larger part of the electorate than you make it out to be, especially in comparison to the few el-al airmiles fanatics in the past. There is definitely a change beyond policy and Christian Democracy to explain why Israël can't be criticized anymore.

Dorst Savijeski

Going of your Dutch name, could you imagine a central bank president having a wife who is pro-palestine in 2024 (Duisenberg). Their not committed zionist, just signaling their part of the crew.

Hans Anders

I’m not arguing it’s a small percentage. Atlanticists are and were a clear majority in western parliaments. And Duisenberg was a controversial exception back then as well. Criticism of Israel was never mainstream here. I just think the voices of the new far right parties are responsible for John and Mark’s changing perception of the European stance.

Hans Anders

This is a great summary of the (propaganda) war. Would be great to make public!

Faisal Sultan

Overwhelmed by all the truth bombs! Great episode.

Dorst Savijeski

Your so wrong to equate we hid Jews zwarten kousen (Oeps market garden) zionism with 2024 policy based on identy. But nuf said. (For the not Dutch, the region around Nimwegen plus minus 40km is the zionist heathland, and the most revisionist after WW2, anywhere else market garden would have succeeded (Arnhem and the Betuwe being the humble island in virtue signaling Judeo Christi .)

CR

Agreed. Unlock it.

CR

What William said. The people never broke. The leaders who were sending children soldiers (Germany) and about to mobilize every person in the country (Japan) broke because they could not keep fighting. Thinking about it abstractly, it amazes me more each day how both Germany and Japan were able to wage war being almost entirely demechanized (10% max for the Wehrmacht) and isolated from strategic resources of which their opponents had massive reserves. Although the whole turn at Stalingrad and the purpose of the wars themselves were entirely about control of those resources. Point is: the Axis peoples never broke. Given how the Cold War turned out, except for Hitler, their leaders never broke, either. They just changed with the winds.

Aditya V

Great episode. Especially liked Ali Abunimah talking about the transition in Euro elites... Almost everyone has skipped it or treated it jocularly without assigning it the seriousness it requires

David Andrews

Excellent guest and thoughtful interview. I look forward to seeing Abunimah on MSNBC, CNN, ABC, etc. Or maybe not.

Ossi Tapio

It worked when North America was colonized.

Demented Avenger

Great on talking about the Qassam Brigade videos (which are inspiring, a ray of hope). The production involved in them means that they not only set up their videos, but they had to know that they could take out these Israeli tanks reliably. And they knew this within days of 10/7.

William

You mean when 95% of the population was wiped out by diseases they had no immunity to?

Cameron Young

Very solid episode, thank you for keeping the focus on Gaza as the media worlds focus has shifted to “the economy “ or “the US election”.

CR

Right-wingers are evil fucks, but no one outside Turkish Grey Wolves is looking at Gaza as a way of dealing with (other) minority groups in the west.

CR

Immigration. MSM is scared shitless of discussing the economy

CR

Hezbollah proved the Merkava was a paper tiger two decades ago

Crosley Querin

Great episode. Sounds like we need a Jon Elmer follow up!

Jeff Normal

Great episode. As a side note: “forgotten weapons” has a breakdown of the Hamas produced sniper rifle video. It looks like it is most likely just a disassembled Iranian import. Still not to take away from all the other innovative things and tactics taking place by a very underfunded organization compared to the IDF. The video can be found on YouTube

Ossi Tapio

You cannot argue with victory.
