Wow the paradise duck is awesome, great contrast on the male

NYCM&AHole

Blinken and his fucking guitar. It would be more appropriate if he played slayer’s war ensemble instead of anything else.

NYCM&AHole

Or “war is my shepherd” by exodus.

NYCM&AHole

The fact that he plays white man blues just goes to the banality of evil.

Great episode! Russia’s gradual envelopment of Vuhledar reminds me of the battle of Aleppo. They couldn’t directly retake the city- and their offensives in the north turned into repeated, embarrassing failures. In the first year or so, elite units of the SAA were decimated by these failures. Eventually, the SAA won (with the help of Hezbollah, Russia and paramilitary formations) by gradually surrounding rebel held areas- bombing them to oblivion- and slowly forcing them to withdraw. In the case of the SAA, they were surprisingly pragmatic at negotiating withdrawals and cease fires. Russia is using a similar strategy without that kind of local diplomacy.

"The fact that he plays white man blues just goes to the banality of evil. " Is a great line

Alistair Crooke commented that the pager bombs hit the civil arm of Hizbullah - Dr's, nurses, bureaucrats. The military went optic cable and courier before 2006. It's a weird guerrilla group because it has governing responsibilities

Mark Murphy

It reminded me of Kent Brockman talking about Lisa's doll Lisa Lionheart. "Though it was unusual to spend 28 minutes reporting on a doll, this reporter found it impossible to stop talking. It's just really fascinating news, folks!"

I keep my paradise ducks tactical style complete with a digital camo pattern on their quilted coats currently in ukaf livery

I reckon Mark would like the E1 episode ‘Pixar’s Sodas’.

William

It would be more appropriate for blinken to be shot into the sun

William

Do we know anything about isreal’s actual military capabilities at the moment? I imagine that their armored units have taken a hit (no pun intended); my suspicion is that their offensive capabilities are strictly limited to air power right now

NYCM&AHole

That’d be too nice for blinken. I think he should be subjected to all the torture he’s whitewashed and provided cover for

Guys you really have to stop with the whole 'al aqsa flood was an intelligence failure on the part of israel', it wasn't a convincing explanation on the day, and it isn't one now. This article goes into more detail than I cbf to do rn: https://booty.substack.com/p/october-7

Red Herring McGuffin

They were bringing obsolete tanks out of storage months ago, the infantry is exhausted and demoralised, there've been a spate of suicides but it's only really talked about in israeli media, and they haven't tried to or will not fundamentally change their methods. Now we're seeing more and more troops from other genocidal states (USA and UK) joining in the slaughter. We know they had US and likely UK SF for the raid from the pier (and I have no doubt they were operating long before that, i wouldn't be surprised if they were there on the 7th), and now the 101st is over there too.

Doug Cartel

It shouldnt surprise anyone that israel has failed to destroy hamas, because this is like the 6th time israel promised to do that.

My biggest question with regards to the Israel vs Axis of Resistance war is "where is China?" They're pretty explicit that the current attacks on Lebanon are unacceptable, I remember some Chinese big-wig saying something like "we unconditionally stand with our Arab brothers and Sisters." Maybe I play too many video games (EDIT: I definitely play too many video games), but if I was China with a MASSIVE manufacturing base and my allies were getting attrited by proxy forces of my biggest competitor, I'd take the opportunity to battle test some of my air defense systems.

Hugs-4-Pugs

You won’t find many articles or reports on it (much like Ukrainian casualties) and when numbers do come out goal posts are moved and terminology is weaponized. Non-western sources point to Gaza has exhausted the IDF both in equipment losses/damage as well as chewing through manpower.

Hugs-4-Pugs

At this point I’m pretty sure the Israelis are trying to make one big push to take over all of their make believe promised land which, if you listen to the fanatics, includes Lebanon (or most of it anyway). It’s been a long stated goal of Zionist and it would be foolish to think they aren’t serious.

JoR

I'm admittedly out of the loop, but is China "allied" with the Axis of resistance? I always thought they stay relatively neutral in most conflicts (see: them brokering peace between Saudi, Yemen and Iran). I just don't see what China would get from getting too involved, especially with how schizo Israel is currently

JoR

Like listening to a bad head coach's press conference. The more he says something, the more bullshit it is lol

Ander Pierce

Your interpretation doesn't match with their rhetoric, but DOES match more closely with their actions. They have done joint naval exercises with Russia and Iran. Also, given the tension between US and China, hardening US-targeted states spreads US war making capabilities thin, so that is hypothetically what they could gain by taking sides in these conflicts.

CR

Shapiro's treatise on a 155mm shell reminds me of The Simpsons, when their old lady neighbor's brother blew himself up holding onto a hand grenade too long in WW1 because he was reciting a whole fucking solliliquy about how "this one's for the kaiser from ..."

Connor Francis

When did people start signing artillery shells. It seems like every artillery shelling israel is signed by a politician and I've never heard of that practice.

Methew

Transformers 1 was an absolute banger tho

Shawn van Leeuwen

that would also dramatically raise tension and the risk of direct conflict with the USA. China is focused on China, and it's foreign Policy priorities are focused on not getting drawn into armed conflicts, while engaging where it can to broker agreements that lead to a stronger global stability, and especially regional stability. When it comes to any kind of force projection, it is focused on what China sees as its historic territorial dominance of the South China Sea. Outside of extremely exceptional circumstances where foreign conflict has the liklihood to directly effect China proper or existential Chinese interests, I don't forsee them getting belligerent.

Collyn Marsh

I saw a picture of Israeli kids signing artillery shells during the 2006 war, which has gotta be one of the most ghoulish things of all time

Daniel Capshaw

Don't worry Mark, the Israelis make it very difficult not to make the Nazi/Wehrmacht comparison.

Israeli Grand Master Plan Step 1: Murder lots of children. Step 2: Antagonize everyone (except Biden) forever. (Sadly, Step 1 apparently wasn't enough to do this by itself.) Step 3: ??? Step 4: Profit

Seems like we're in a good spot to have the nuclear winter finally happen at exactly the same time as we get our first woman president

JoR

I don't disagree, but they are basically "un-antagonizable" by the Democrats or Republicans. I still think it's a stupid lack of strategy by them, but until either party even remotely questions them, their calculation seems to be "kill em all, we have American backing us up"

So far, the Dems and Repubs have stood by them. The Israelis certainly seem to take for granted that they will always enjoy America's unqualified support. But I think that is a very dangerous presumption on their part. Look at it this way: it's one thing for the Israelis to massacre Palestinians, who the U.S. has nothing but murderous contempt for anyway. It's another thing for them to back Daesh in Syria even when Daesh was fighting American-backed militias; that's annoying, but while it undermines the regime change operation it still contributes to Syria's descent into chaos, which is good enough. It's yet another thing for Israel to steal nuclear weapons from the U.S.; we like them having a nuclear deterrent, even if it opens the door for a truly horrifying escalation of violence in the Middle East. But if Israel provokes a serious regional conflict, that starts to cause some problems that the American ruling class would have to care about. The U.S. is invested in Lebanon, at least in some of the local factions there. However much we hate Hezbollah, we need them to keep Lebanon from falling apart. And what happens if Egypt and/or Saudi Arabia get sucked into the war? What happens if Arab unrest grows beyond the ability of American-friendly regimes to contain it? And if the U.S. lets itself get dragged too deep into fighting in the region, it creates a golden opportunity for America's many enemies and rivals to get some payback by arming Hezbollah, Iran, and whoever else Israel picks a fight with. Despite appearances, I don't think the United States is committed to a suicide pact with Israel. Certainly there are some very vocal Israeli diehards in the government right now, but they are not the only or the strongest interest group with sway over America's foreign policy. If the Israelis continue on their present course, I don't think it's certain by any means that America will go along with them. All of that is assuming the Israelis don't unilaterally cut ties with America on their own. They're fucking crazy and breathtakingly stupid, there's no telling what they're going to do. The only thing that's certain is that they're going to keep doing evil and stupid things until they're destroyed.

William

I suspect Isreal is going to get completely overwhelmed by the sheer amount of rocket fire; they won’t have the ammunition to counter

William

Zelensky is laying the groundwork for the Ukraine’s lost cause myth. Even a few hundred years later, we still can’t create anything new

JoR

Good points, I don't necessarily disagree. I just feel like the average public discourse on Israel is so slanted already, that it would take something crazy (like Israel "breaking up" with us first) before anything significantly changes. I mean, if you even bought up the (valid) points you mentioned in any "polite" conversation, especially the stealing nukes part, you would just get blank stares, at best. At worst you're probably getting nasty emails sent to your job. Also, I am not so sure if our illustrious leaders have any self control to not basically be in a suicide pact with Israel. When are they ever going to tell them "no"? And, taking all morality out of it, what is the US losing in this conflict so far? The entire region can be engulfed in chaos, but this already happened after our Iraq adventure. Our political elite loves "chaos" halfway across the globe. Again I agree with everything you've said but I guess I'm just more pessimistic about the entire situation. Personally, I feel like there would have to be a huge event specifically related to America for Israel to ruin its reputation in the US. Maybe something like Trump getting offended by a comment from Netanyahu and them having a very public feud. Something completely irrelevant that cascades into the relationship spiraling

John Waaben

It depends on the data recorded by the “citizen scientists” (nerds with free time and a smartphone)

a clash of purple

I don't think I'm being especially optimistic... Israel's already committed, what, 70 years' worth of atrocities? And I don't think they'll stop any time soon. I only wanted to point out that, as deranged and irrational as America's leadership is, they aren't all owned by the same backers. So far, Israel hasn't really done anything that would conflict too much with the other factions jockeying for influence in Washington. If this murderous temper tantrum of theirs continues, that is likely to change. The American ruling class has other masters to answer to besides just Israel. To be clear, I don't think the U.S. is likely to unilaterally withdraw all support for Israel, no matter how unhappy they are with their behavior. Frankly, I think it's more likely that they'd try to intervene in Israeli politics and carry out some kind of regime change to put a more amenable government into power (though I don't think that will happen either). I do think we will see increasing tension in their relationship, and the Americans might scale back their support in some way, or place conditions on it (which the Israelis might or might not respect). As for public opinion in America goes, it's really hard to say. There's a pretty clear partisan divide about Israel, with right-wingers respecting and admiring them as a violent and chauvinistic ethnostate while liberals buy all the bullshit about them being a LGBTQ+-friendly oasis of democracy amid the evil brown Arab Muslims. I think a majority of non-Republicans aren't sure what's going on and are having trouble reconciling the savagery of the past eleven months with their mental image of Israel as being good liberals. Republicans are more clear-eyed about what's going on, but I think a lot of them are torn between wanting to increase military aid in order to murder more Arabs, or scaling it back so they can murder more brown people in the United States instead. It just comes down to the lies spewed out on a daily basis by the mainstream media. The overwhelming majority of people don't listen to RWN, or Democracy Now, or Norman Finkelstein, etc., if they even know such people exist. A lot of people read the Washington Post, the New York Times, etc., and so they get a fairly skewed impression of current events. Mainstream journalists are happy to fact-check Trump to his face when he says Haitian immigrants are kidnapping and eating people's pets off the street, but they don't bat an eye when Biden repeats Israeli lies about Hamas rape gangs and baby decapitations. I don't know to what extent the student protests on American college campuses are changing the public's perception, if any. The media refuses to report honestly about that whole situation.

general shell signing goes back to 'ancient'/classical warfare, no idea how long Israel has encouraged this sort of spectacle specifically

Re: expensive air defense - anduril looks like they may be taking a stab at countering the exorbitant cost of countering drone/missile swarms with expensive Patriot missiles or air to air missiles. The product is the “roadrunner”
