I hope you guys realize that is Max Blumenthal and John Fucking Dolan start openly calling us alt-left, that's just going to end up being the standard term of art in American political discourse for anti-liberal leftists, whether we like it or not.

David M

Americans really need a thesaurus with a dictionary to describe those horrible lefty communist types, "Your're a liberal" "You're a leftist" "You're a socialist" uhhhhhh

Mat K

Isn't Alt Left the current standard term for anti liberal lefties ?

Crazy B0nkers

What are anti liberal lefties? SJW types?

Crazy B0nkers

For those interested there's a brilliant article by Adam Curtis about the origins of "humanitarian intervention", Bernard Henri Levy, etc. https://goo.gl/tGOYx

Mat K

SJW types exactly.

Karl Knight

Great episode! May I suggest reaching out to Abby Martin, fellow alt-lefter, to discuss her recent reporting in Venezuela. I'd be very interested to hear about it. Keep up the great work.

Christopher Agahi

Can you guys do an episode on the 2nd Congo War?

Are protests an effective tactic anymore? They are a publicity stunt that may have been effective when there were a handful of media outlets. But now...?

Justin Liu

I dislike the first interviewee. He is relevant but not representative. 20 people at a protest...

Matthew C

The US political spectrum has been completely fucked for a long time now. The American right considers anything left of neoliberal to be "far left". While the neoliberals themselves consider anyone who espouses negative opinions of them while holding leftist ideals to be "alt-left", which they use interchangeably with terms like "brocialist", all while having the audacity to call themselves "center left". Its all totally nonsensical and infuriating to hear parroted by essentially every major news outlet. All the while they ask questions about why the "alt left" wont fall in line behind their failed ideas while they make excuses on why they cant support single payer healthcare, or literally anything thats not the exact same free market policies they had in the first place.

dave from outer space

Absolutely. Left and Right are empty, antiquated categories telling us nothing about the world. It's lazy. I asked Mr Dolan about this in one of my comments, hoping he and Mr Ames might explore it on the show. Of course, it's not what RWN is about, so I get they they wouldn't. Still, the more they use these terms the more irrelevant their analysis will become. And nobody wants that. Damn, I would pay money to listen to Mr Dolan talk about the history/etymology of Left and Right: I bet there's a book in it.

Fabian Destouches

To make matters even more confusing: There have been people calling themselves alt left before the Vanity Fair article. But these were alt-righters who supported slightly more redistributive policies than the average alt-right member.

Factory Troll

I made the mistake of reading the comments before listening to the episode, but was delighted to hear a thorough discussion on Kurds, jihadis and the war in Syria with only very brief mentions of "alt-left" and other political terms that commenters here obsess over. Please do not cave for the popular demand to get bogged down in some lame conversation on the nuances of “left” and “right” in American politics and keep delivering excellent analysis of relevant events (past and present) and the broader picture. If you guys want some discussion on the use of terms in contemporary American political discourse, and other non-topics, I suggest you check a gutter called Twitter, or every other podcast ever made.

Karl Knight

I'm pretty sure they're using the term sarcastically. Ames criticized the false equivalency of alt-left/alt-right after an article in Vanity Fair was published which listed several "alt-lefters", many of whom have been guests on RWN. Here's the article if you haven't seen it yet. http://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/03/why-the-alt-left-is-a-problem

Carter Adams

Here here. I honestly like the twitter left, but I have plenty of other places to go for that content.

Kevin Walsh

I can't wait to hear Dolan and Ames's take on the whole Qatar thing.

Caitlyn

Please bring Blumenthal back on for future episodes!

acazosa

Big military parade in fact in Rome for 2 of June. None in Turin because everybody is in Rome.

Chris McCarthy

This podcast is the best thing I have been introduced to this year. Absolutely enthralled by each episode, keep up the great work.

Emilia Leese

The Turkish goons story is astonishingly foolish. What were they thinking? Excellent show as usual.
