Blinken couldn’t grasp his own ass with both hands, let alone the consequences of his stupid fucking decisions

Mark Ames compares Gaza to the Warsaw Ghetto. The Warsaw Ghetto was a pitstop to the Treblinka extermination camps, and when that was realized, the uprising occurred. The civilian death in Gaza is because their elected dictators (with an army of 10s of thousands of fighters) decided to kidnap and kill a bunch of people in Israel. To compare the two is retarded. UNRWA: 10% of UNRWA employees had links to terrorist groups (higher than population baseline), and 12 participated in Oct 7th.[1] UNRWA membership includes top Hamas commanders.[2] A Hamas datacenter was directly under the UNRWA headquarters in Gaza.[3] UNRWA is emblematic of the connection between global left-wing and militant Islamists, but then again so is the POV of the War Nerd podcast/commentariat. “Biden told them they can’t go to Rafah”. Yeah, and where did they kill Sinwar? Rafah. On Jewish-American support for Israel being age-polarized. Yes, this is definitely the case, though the clear majority of American Jews age 18-34 are on the pro-Israel side.[4] And perhaps more importantly, the latest crop of Jewish billionaires (e.g Zuckerberg, Sam Altman) are pro-Israel, so Jewish pro-Israel influence is declining but not significantly enough to alter the power of the Israel lobby in this generation (though it will likely decrease in relative power as broader public opinion shifts). In terms of Michigan: The Michigan election seems incredibly important for determining whether the Democratic Party bifurcates from the GOP on Israel policy. If Dems lose it, the pro-Palestinian movement gets a much bigger say in the party. If Dems win it, both parties will ignore them for years. Trump is the high-variance candidate on this subject, and in general. He and Jared Kushner have a better record on Middle East geopolitics than Biden. The Abraham Accords showed that the conventional wisdom (expressed by John Kerry[5]) was wrong and that Arab countries would be fine normalizing without a resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel signed normalization agreements with the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco during Trump’s admin. Though they initially were working with the Palestinians, the Trump admin (and the aforementioned Arab states + Saudis) eventually came to the conclusion that former were not willing to accept a Jewish state in the course of their rejection of the Trump Peace Plan (no opportunity for a compromise/agreement). The funny thing is that Kushner had no FP experience but navigated the conflict better than FP establishment. Your sources are dogshit you fucking idiot

bg

@Diego How are the sources dogshit? For example, source #5 is literally a transcript. Happy to be shown that any of the citations are false [for example by providing a better source that disproves them], but simply calling them all dogshit doesn't show anything but your incredulity/indignation.

Podconsoomer

All you’re doing is repeating Israeli propaganda. Are you getting paid for this? You a hasbarist? Cause you sound like you are.

Limiting the amount of food that comes into Gaza as a collective punishment of the people trapped inside the zone that Israel controls 100% of the entry points… how is Israel not responsible for the crippling of the Gazan population though intentional starvation tactics? Even the US government admits Israel is restricting aid and their own politicians called for “no food, no water, no power” to Gaza to punish the inhabitants of the prison they aren’t allowed to leave…

bg

@Diego Nope, not being paid. Why would any government spend money on going into private comment sections that overwhelmingly disagree with the points made? It would make much more sense to spend money on public-facing social networks. As I've explained in previous posts, I currently hold a very different opinion than the hosts/commentariat and I figure the best way to see where I'm wrong and evolve my current views is to post them on forums like this with better-informed/smarter than avg people who vehemently disagree. Sure, most of the responses are of the "fuck you" variety, but around 10-25% of the responses are substantive, which make it worth it.

Podconsoomer

My final message: kill yourself

William

I think what trips John up is that Trump doesn’t care what his base wants - he only does what he thinks will make him look good. Ryan hit it on the nose when he said Trump would probably be embarrassed to have the war continue for too long. In my opinion, he probably wouldn’t want isreal to ever blow him off like they do to biden

William

Shut the fuck up you disgusting piece of shit. The civilian deaths in Gaza are directly the result of the IDF bombing and killing innocent civilians ON PURPOSE. They are deliberately starving the population. They have committed numerous war crimes; did any of your bullshit sources report on the time the idf used aid trucks and the Joe Biden memorial pier to sneak in and kill some 200 innocent civilians? How many Hamas tunnels were under the hospital camp that the idf bombed a couple weeks back? None of your sources are trustworthy- the WSJ, AP, times of Israel (lol) have all been shown to have a very distinct bias in their reporting.

Zach B

cited times of israel and state department on palestine and gaza, opinion disregarded, think about this and take a very long walk off a very short pier while you think

Cory

Oh this might be interesting.

bg

@Diego Seems a bit harsh for someone disagreeing with you, hope you get well soon! @Alec: A few points on this. We have been hearing about an acute risk of famine since December 2023[1], but a famine hasn't manifested. Israel, through COGAT, has been providing 100's of thousands of tons of food aid to Gaza. It's incredibly difficult to get aid into Gaza, because armed groups attack the aid delivery convoys. You can easily google for videos of Hamas capturing aid trucks, for use among their own fighters and to resell the aid to the population to finance recruitment. @Zach: The claims in the Times of Israel article are responded to in this Al Jazeera article[2]: "The chief of the UN’s aid agency in Gaza has said that it had no knowledge of what was beneath its abandoned headquarters amid Israeli claims that a Hamas tunnel ran below the Gaza City site." So basically UNRWA is saying it had no clue what was beneath its own headquarters. Highly believable! As for the state department source, I was simply quoting the transcript there to show John Kerry expressing the conventional FP establishment wisdom, not to support any other factual claim. So yes, using the state department transcript of Kerry's remarks is in fact a good citation for what Kerry said, regardless of your views on the US state dept. Perhaps you need to think about this and take a walk. 1. https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/statement-unicef-risk-famine-gaza-strip 2. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/8/5/un-says-nine-employees-may-have-been-involved-in-october-7-hamas-attack

Podconsoomer

Not harsh enough, I hope you do too once you extract the parasite in your brain via buckshot.

Alec

Why does the US government believe that Israel is intentionally restricting food aid? The conditions in Gaza are a result of the blockade imposed by Israel since the mid 2000’s. You might not know this, but a blockade is considered an act of war. Israel controls every entrance to the strip. They control the sea border. Looks to me like they are responsible for the conditions inside the strip as a result of controlling every method of entry. Let’s not forget about the Turkish attempt to bring food aid by sea to the Palestinians that was raided by the Israeli special forces, and they had the audacity to say they were delivering weapons to the Palestinians (they found some machetes on board… so scary)

bg

@Diego, I thought you sent your final message? Are you aware that you make your movement look hateful, violent, and like it celebrates dysfunction/incivility? Note: I don't judge the opposing arguments to my view on the basis of someone like Diego, but it does undeniably represent the above tendencies. This can be seen also in pro-Palestinian campus groups embracing Oct-7 style violence.* * https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/09/nyregion/columbia-pro-palestinian-group-hamas.html

Kyle Erickson

Excellent episode. I also listen to conservative talk radio, and the sense I get from them is that they’re quite confident Trump has this in the bag. Which I find pretty funny given the fact that their segments are sandwiched by advertisements for emergency food stores and gold-backed investment accounts.

AG

I was born and raised on Oakland ,CA. Moved to TX in 2013 for work. I have always voted Democrat. They gave me thousands of dollars during covid. I approved of leaving Afghanistan. They forgave my federal student loans of $183,000. But fuck em. I voted Jill Stein to say fuck em for this genocide. I've been one of those annoying guys at work. Cheer up guys... at least we spent murdering children in Gaza.

Alec

I understand that it must be embarassing that the country you’re white-knighting for has 2 million people locked up in a glorified prison camp so you feel the need to offload all that responsibility to the people who are being horrifically abused by the nuclear armed settler colonial project you love so much. Maybe someday you’ll understand that the Israeli state is a fascist nightmare that has abused and imprisoned over 2 million people and kept them *just* on the brink of the legal definition of famine. But I doubt it.

Podconsoomer

Don’t care dude you’re here shrugging off genocide you are the real hateful, violent, uncivilized one. I will never take your considerations serious because you care not one bit for the Palestinians and would prefer if every single one dropped dead this moment. I know what you are.

NYCM&AHole

Glad to see they did something for somebody. Ain’t done shit for me aside from ruin housing prices, so they can’t even claim to have done anything for my vote.

NYCM&AHole

I can’t tell what’s going on. I see one thing saying Trump is ahead and then I see one thing saying Kamala is ahead. I don’t know and frankly don’t give a shit. If Trump had promised to put Liz Cheney and her dad and all the PNAC ghouls in front of a firing squad it might’ve been enough to get my vote.

JoR

Honestly, I feel like both sides are really just hyping themselves up, no matter what they think internally. Which makes sense. This was someone else's comment on another platform , but it's like a football team. And their fans/media. They can't think, even behind close doors, "we're gonna get our asses kicked", because then it'll basically be inevitable

Alec

“Gee whiz, the warlords who took over the prison camp that we blockaded for the past 20 years really want to kill us, honey it’s giving antisemitism”

Raymond Yukich

So you're a pro-genocide/gang rape/terrorist/torture supporter, probably an IDF paid troll. The IDF is putting numbers on the foreheads of Gentile males in Gaza. Looking like a holocaust.

Raymond Yukich

Times of Israel and WSJ are both pro-genocide/gang rape publications.

Peter Z

Not just AIPAC - can't ignore Zionist infiltration within the State plus Harris' husband and Trump's kids and the circles they move in.

AG

Disagree. I can imagine different choices by our own government.

ElGatoMalandrin

I live in Hamtramck MI and there will absolutely be a backlash of racism by American liberals against Muslim immigrants if Kamala loses Michigan or something similar. The groundwork is already laid (liberal values/ feminist objections to the legislation/rule of Muslims in city council etc…) it will only ramp up if they are blamed for a Trump victory for not towing the American liberal line

Cam C

I have an acquaintance who has been all over the Middle East as a service member, he was part of the Afghanistan withdrawal. His main gripe was that when he came home he was really tired and none of the California restaurants would let him in because he wasn’t vaccinated. I don’t think he thought any of the War on Terror was a mistake

joe smith

They are mistaken about the woman yelling at the child about Gaza. Apparently that was edited on Twitter and IRL those were vicious anti-abortion protestors at Kamala’s Texas rally. Without the sound you could tell those were the kind of people who protest abortion clinics, just by seeing dad’s professional microphone and his cool response. It’s not an uncommon sight in the south, I live near a planned parenthood…

CR

Still shouldn’t be yelling at a kid just because the father is a professional asshole.

CR

I saw someone say for Trump’s next trick he should bring wounded Iraq war vets on stage and dare Liz Cheney to tell them to their faces that they should die for Ukraine.

Hans Anders

They sent that letter with the deadline after the election because they want Israel to continue while making it look like they don’t. It doesn’t make the us look weak, it makes them look mad. It signals “USA, or we burn your country” to everyone in the region.

a clash of purple

Americans shouldn't be allowed to vote in American presidential elections. Everyone else in the world should vote instead. The choice of POTUS matters so much less for Americans than the rest of the world. The typical American voter isn't affected by who's president. There's so many countries whose fate hinges more on what the Americans choose to do rather than their own politics. It's absurd and sad and infuriating.

a clash of purple

It's a volunteer military. There can't be too many people enlisting who are, like, anti-imperialist or whatever.

fw

Just because you wasted your time adding numbered footnotes to your bullshit doesn't mean it isn't bullshit. No one is reading your racist hateful shit. If you're not being paid for it you're just a bootlicking intern for rich genocidaires who wouldn't spit on you if you were aflame, you fucking loser. Most normal people would rather diego than you in their 'movement', any day

fw

[in the least combative/doubting way possible] do you have sources for that you could share, joe? haven't seen this debunk anywhere, though saw gaza framing a lot, and would like to know where the cognitohazards' inflow and outflows, as it were

Cam C

This is so true, a volunteer fighting force doesn’t think too hard about where it’s being sent, what they’re being asked to do

Bryce Prater

Yeah, I love John, but he really does not understand American politics (except Civil War-era lol). I was surprised Ryan didn't correct him when he said the girl screamed "I don't give a fuck about Gaza, bitch!" (She actually screamed "I don't give a fuck, your dad's a bitch!") Since John doesn't live in America, I think he overestimates the importance of the Middle East in our domestic political discourse.

Bryce Prater

Yes, I was surprised Ryan didn't correct him on that. (I would never justify what that girl did, but she def wasn't screaming about Gaza.)

Bryce Prater

The President's cabinet appointments and influence on Congress matter a lot for "the typical American voter." It seems like this is just your rationale for dismissing concerns about Trump's domestic policies (from people who are voting for Kamala despite Israel's wars).

Christopher Mesler

To give a little bit of grace to the militant kamala people (but not too much) I think trump very much is, this time around, greatly seeming like, well, Hitler. Which is something I have been very critical of when other people have said it over the last 8 years. It's also pretty hitlerian to annihilate with bombs a captive population of a specific ethnicity. I actually think this is maybe the most brutal election in most of our lifetimes, I don't think it's as much of a stretch as many people think that we're choosing between Hitler and Hitler. I mean trump running on putting 20 million people in camps getting rid of them is what Hitler ran on, the final solution was partly carried out because of how economically unsustainable it was to detain and deport that mant people, much easier just to kill them. The language trump is using is insane, like the "america is an occupied country" line is insane. He just tweeted that along with that he's going to declare January 21st or whatever as a national holiday called liberation day. He is pretty baldly fascist this time.

Podconsoomer

Maybe the next move for people that think he’s Hitler is to start stockpiling weapons instead of screeching at others to vote for their preferred candidate

"I saw a funny meme" - Ryan Grim

a clash of purple

I'm not offering any moral arguments or rationalizations or whatever for not voting for Harris. In my case, I wouldn't waste my time to vote anyway, just out of laziness. The fact that my not voting for Kamala Harris might upset some Democrats, whom I despise anyway, is just a bonus.

Christopher Mesler

Hey I'm with you, I just tend to keep some empathy for the way people respond to fear, and want to blame systems and institutions rather than individuals. There can obviously be exceptions, and I'm certainly not above directing anger and ridicule at people myself but, yah. Things are really really fucked right now I think, even more than normal.

joe smith

fw, I can't find anything definitive in the MSM, but this is the unedited clip: https://x.com/AsadFromNYC/status/1850966200001441989. The fact that it was an anti-abortion protestor explains the passion of the response, since that man likely said the meanest thing possible to the woman and still kept his cool afterwards. Not to be offensive, but I don't see this kind of behavior from Gaza protestors, who also usually aren't white dads in fishing shirts.

Kendall

Wake up, babe—new Brendon interlude just dropped

brrrskrrrt

I don't think the question of who wins the election is the most interesting question, but rather what the aftermath of it will be. The risks, for both sides, associated with losing seem quite high. You've seen the return of lawfare to US political norms after Trump's initial defeat and it seems high profile Trump supporters like eg. Elon truly believe the Dems will come after them and try to destroy them if Trump loses, and the reverse is probably true as well. The Trump crowd is primed to believe that the election is stolen if they lose; the Dems have a convenient scapegoat in Gaza politics, but I'm not sure if that'll be sufficient or if the will is there to diffuse the fallout from losing the election.

Muirneach

Great episode but no matter what you think of Trump, Harris wasn't elected on any process to become the candidate and for Harris to win would surely mean that the " most democratic" country in the world isn't even hiding it now and just run by a regime...the democratic party isn't even democratic 😂😂

Ben H

Is this episode not appearing for anyone else using Overcast? Or just me?

Cory

Being a covid conscious person and trying to protect myself and now having a member of my household who has it... I totally understand why everybody has given up. I hope Mark gets better with no after effects.

Haemu

I use a different podcast app but it is not appearing there either.

Cory

Ryan's an interesting figure. I used to be a lib and I think that's a common trajectory. I wonder if this is slowly radicalized him versus being shamelessly opportunistic with starting dropsite. Listening to him and scahill speak, I think it's sincere so it's something to watch.

t6xc nick

Free Market now means let Capitalisms self cannibalizing tendencies of rent seeking, monopolizing, imperialism, slavery, etc run amok. It means something different in China, which is why China's hated. But it still sucks

Cory

The ones who walk away from Omelas.

Sneakin Sally

This plan aint gonna work with patreon iphone all that.

Ben H

Just downloaded this morning for me. All is right in the world (well, except for all the stuff that is going horribly).

G W

You freaks will pretend you never supported this genocide and your dumbass connected your credit card to these comments.

Jason Thompson

Yeah, great story. (Love LeGuin using the Lord Dunsany pastiche style to write a progressive fable…) The one thing it’s missing (for the annotations 🤪) is that occasionally the child in the closet bites. So the people’s abuse of the kid becomes back-justified because “it only understands force,” this wicked, savage, barbaric, innately violent child.

Jason Thompson

Thank you, I also fell for that video. How frustrating. Like there aren’t plenty of real videos of pro Israel people begin assholes to share.

Jason Thompson

Yeah, this is extremely sticky to talk about, but how far could Harris (or any spouse regardless of gender) be politically from her husband if this is an issue that’s important to him? Her husband who has made multiple identity-forward pro Israel speeches to pro Israel audiences since his wife got into politics? I guess at least the daughter/stepdaughter shared some pro UNRWA posts, or something. I really do wonder how all this plays out at the dinner table of their family.

Schaeffer Mallory

I wonder if Kamala Harris wins, and if the Israelis are just so vitriolically hateful towards her, if that could create a legitimate rift between the US and Israel purely from a place of Harris being so personally offended (and so ideologically vapid that there would be no Zionist attachment like Biden has)

George P

The only good thing to happen tomorrow is one of these two reptiles will lose and their insufferable supporters will be sad, and that sadness will be publicly available for our amusement. Hating is all we have left.

JoR

Anything is possible (as the last few years have proven lol), but are even they that stupid to self-alienate themselves from the party in power for the next 4 years? They'll probably do what they always do, pussy-whip the democrats, talk shit to their face, but remain "cordial" enough to not completely disrupt the relationship. Also, I don't see Harris taking some brave personal stand, either. If Obama never did, she won't.

docbrownn

I bring this up in good faith, but the clip that John referenced, of the young Harris supporter screaming in the face of a two year old, that’s not what she said or the context of what happened. It was a pro-far right pro-lifer, protesting abortion rights, and he brought along his toddler. The young woman screamed, “I don’t give a shit about your father, bitch”. Not, “I don’t give a shit about Gaza, bitch”. It was easily mistaken and fooled a lot of people, but a Harris supporter didn’t scream at a toddler about Gaza.

Alexander white

I suppose there was limited time in the episode, but I was surprised that you didn't cover the link between Biden-worlds economic populism and their drive towards a confrontation with China

Tom Warner

i agree, those sources do provide moral justification for the wholesale slaughter of children. we should send isreal more bombs for free, to allow them to kill children faster.

Schaeffer Mallory

I guess it just seems like they're not even acting cordial towards Biden, in so far as they flagrantly do the exact opposite of what he says they should do. It does seem like Biden is an aberration in terms of his willingness to be completely humiliated by the Israelis. So if Harris wins I guess we'll see if that ritual humiliation in service of the Risk game is fundamental to the Democratic Party or if it was a unique feature of the Biden admin

Podconsoomer

Is it really ritual humiliation or is it a diehard Zionist pretending he’s totally not letting them ethnically cleanse Gaza unchallenged

George P

Very difficult to imagine Harris ever doing anything politically courageous

Tariq

it was elite

Tom Warner

somehow the only problem with everything that got said here was that it was far too optimistic
