Guest: Kelley Vlahos, Responsible Statecraft editor

Recorded: December 4, 2020

Kelley Vlahos returns to RWN to size up the successes and failures of Trump foreign policy, warn us about the return of the Blob under Biden, and throw us for bit of a loop with some potentially positive developments for those of us not of the neocon/liberal interventionist/American Exceptionalism persuasion.

Kelley Vlahos was previously on RWN EP #36 (the Gilded Deep State) and RWN EP #58 (DC Freakout Over Trump Victory). Follow Kelley on Twitter, read her at Responsible Statecraft.

Interlude music by Brendon Anderegg. Check out his group Mountains here.

Buy John Dolan's "The War Nerd Iliad" and his audiobook "Pleasant Hell".

You did a show that covered drone technology a while ago. You had a guest who talked about costs and ranges and so on. What episode number was that? I can't seem to find it.

Is there some kind of volume equalizing technology that podcasters can start using? Mark is talking at like twice the volume of John/Gary. This is the identical dynamic to what I hear with Citations Needed with Adam Johnson and Nima (Adam always mumbles, you turn up the volume to hear him better while you're doing the dishes, and then Nima starts blasting your eardrums at high decibels).

There's a normalisation effect in most DAW software. Takes about 2 mouseclicks and 30 seconds to apply.

Interesting episode. I found it odd that Kamala Harris wasn't mentioned though. Given Bidens age and possible health issues, one would assume that Harris would be pushed to the front more assuming there is some kind of succession planning going on?

Digital Audio Workstation. Audacity would work fine for normalising audio.

You know it's weird when the host is more insightful than the guest. I could have interviewed my grandma about Bidens foreign policy & at least gotten some Irish humor out of it.

Kelley Vlahos A: Can fit in at a DC "thinktank" institution AT ALL, and B: Will have to deal with the repercussions at her "day job" of saying anything that isn't their groupthink consensus. The best guests on this show don't have such constraints.
