I started reading Erdogan Pizza, insightful and uttterly hilarious. Really gripped me!

I probably watch IN THE LOOP once a year. The line (spoken by the great snake Malcolm Tucker (Peter Capaldi), leveled at US Assistant Secretary of State Linton Barwick (the legend David Rasche)) goes as follows: Y'know, I've come across a lot of psychos, but none as fucking boring as you. You are a real boring fuck. Sorry, sorry, I know you disapprove of swearing so I'll sort that out. You are a boring F, star, star, CUNT!

Thank you from the German speaking contingent.

So kissenger’s method is a) swallow a spider to catch the fly, and b) don’t read the end of the children’s book

listening to this episode i'm surprised at how many similarities there are between Kissinger and Steve Bannon right down to the idea that these bloated weirdos are actually widely read bloody minded intellectuals

Tom Warner

the more i hear about Kissinger, the more i get the impression that he was intellectually mediocre at best, and the cult of brilliance that's formed around him is entirely because he was surrounded by idiots anyway, now we're governed by people just as morally bankrupt as Kissinger and his contemporaries, but with even less brainpower. what could go wrong?

Norman

Erdogan Pizza has been great, although it brought back a lot of painful memories of overnight busses.

Nico

I haven't gotten Erdogan Pizza or any of your newsletters for a long time. :(

Tariq

same.

That’s because Erdogan Pizza got rid of its “if it’s not hot, your next one is free” policy

I thought I would feel some kind of satisfaction when he died but instead I feel more depressed than anything. The bottom line is he got away with it. He got away with all of it. The "moral arc of the universe" did not catch up with him, or any of his peers, or any of his many proteges.

Saw Dalio wissing Kizinger well in himel, but for what it's worth imho it's the USSR elite that pushed for détente. Kizinger up just waited

Side crackpot note, just as we don't know what happened to Bo CIA Lais crew we don't know what happened to Oleg Petrosky. #prodetente

This may sound like a scene from an older comedy movie where a guy gets mauled by a bear, and he asks his friends if they're going to hunt the bear down to get revenge for him - and they say no, even better, we'll get revenge on the bear by not hunting him down and letting him suffer and die from the ravages of old age... but Kissinger spent the last couple decades of his "life" inhabiting an overstuffed rotting trash bag of a human body, and crucially, was able to live long enough to realize that his place in history would not be that of a wise statesman - as he could have been confident about if he croaked in the 70s, 80s, or 90s - but as a despised war criminal.

Hearing this again on, what, day 22 of the Iran War, it seems – barring personnel – like there's going to be an enormous opportunity for a "liberal realist" in the bullshit Faustian-self-image Kissinger mode. The focus-grouped pandering Hillary/Kamala shit is sunk (as modern analogue to your McNamarian bean-counters), the outwardly bellicose nationalist faction is collapsing (because they didn't do much actual nationalism, they don't know what a real war is, and a lot of them fucked children on CCTV cameras), and between those two landfill shores winds the equally shitty strait of the exact "right" Democrat: Somebody who believes in free markets a trillion times more sincerely than Trump, who's equally obsessed with PR but in the exact opposite direction (decorum, which fork is for which course, properly stoic peformance of America's hallowed granite death-worship rituals), and whose "answer" to this smoldering fucking ruin will be that no!, no indeed!, we must NOT step back from "engaging with the world," but we must premise that engagement upon a profound moral conviction in the rightness of our cause, a steely-eyed realism as to the mechanisms by which liberty spreads, and a rejuvenation of that innate national character whereby, as upon so many occasions in the past, we will triumph through that uniquely American determination to assure justice and security for all (...) peoples. Now as to who the fuck that would BE, well, the Democratic Party freezers are stocked with all kinds of things, but you wouldn't want to look too long at any of them. And I have a feeling that perhaps the likeliest attempt will come from a newly-Dark Pete Buttigieg, who'll say something like "You didn't buy that folksy small-town mayor bullshit. Neither did I. Let's be frank: I am a dead-eyed CIA killer with a psychotic belief in my own power as proof of American greatness, and I'm exactly the guy you want. Fuck 'why,' who cares why, your only concern is finding a way to patch up the image of Empire until you're all dead, and that's where I come in." And, allowing the generally negative swing on the Prophecy Index, I think that pitch would work. Basically: here's an Obama, but without the pretense that he's anything other than a bone-deep son of a bitch. Shit, if she were biologically capable of sincerity, Hillary Clinton could even win on that platform – she'll only be 81, and for a Democrat, 81 is just entering your prime. But Punished Bastard Buttigieg, plus AOC to ease the squirming public consciences of people with no consciences in private, hell, the Kid might just Stay in the Picture.
