The reason a girl would be preferable (as a mistress) is because if they have a significant enough amount of mana the resulting child might have greater mana making the child a worthy successor. Nobles always want more mana. Interbreeding with Commoners with The Devouring potentially accomplishes that.

I loved the mana levels reveal in the books and the anime. All this time we thought Myne was OP and special when in fact she was born with very little mana. She would have died pretty early on during her childhood otherwise. Dirk was not long for this world if he hadn't been abandoned at the temple and met Myne. It's only when she almost died and her previous life's memories as Urano awakened that she gained the focus and mental fortitude to unconsciouly "tame" and grow her mana. Something else "extraordinary" also happened to her but we don't learn of it until later.

If you mean the « something special », no we won’t learn of it so quickly. It’s something that has already happened and that we and the characters are made aware of in Part 5 of the light novels ( or was is part 4? Can’t remember). Season 4 is only adaptating part 3.
