Y'all gotta pay better attention to detail. Irv was painting the testing floor, not the break room. That's why they lingered on that shot of it when Ms. Casey went down... also she went down which is the first time we've seen anyone do that. The black paint that Irv's outie was using is the black goop that his innie sees during work sometimes.

This is my first time watching but I think the reason Irv sees the black goo is because of the black paint his outie uses to paint with his conscious and sub conscious mind colliding

Irv was painting the TESTING ROOM guys, that’s where Ms. Casey was being sent by Milchick. The hallway with the elevator with the red light is the testing floor elevator which goes further down into h word. That’s what Irv was painting which could mean he’s seen it before maybe no one knows yet.

well, remember innie Irv was falling asleep during work, likely because outie Irv stays awake forcing his innie to see dreams. If you do repeated actions enough, you will see it in dreams. Kinda if you play a single video game constantly in a short amount of time (the "Tetris effect"). So, if outie Irv is always painting, when his innie sleeps, he will likely see it in his dreams. Why outie Irv could be doing this or even thought of it... I have no idea lol. For all we know, his outie is just staying up for the sake of painting and isn't even considering the idea of his innie sleeping.

Wire is one of the best shows of all time. Just keep in mind it's very slow paced and character focused. Action is very minimal, but it's very intriguing to watch if you're interested how the police worked in early 2000's, what tech they used, what methods etc.
