Best episode of the season imo. Some additional info you might like. In the comics, we get to see him as a gym teacher, being harsh on his students so they perform better while clearly revelling in his actions and that parallels with him as a leader since he uses the same methods. Negan was never a good man, the only difference with him then and now is that he's scaled up how brutal he gets. He's incredibly useful when given some autonomy but he needs to be closely monitored.

Also not sure if anyone brought it up already, but the actress Hilarie Burton is also Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s real life wife. Their chemistry definitely was a big factor in how well the episode turned out.

Tho the thing to note is, Maggie isn’t asking for them to get rid of him. So I think she’s 1000% valid in what she’s feeling, especially because it’s not like she’s like he has to go. No she’s just avoiding him. So more of a convo towards Caryl because Maggie never said to get rid of him. I think she understand what he did for the group, and that’s why she’s just trying to avoid him and leave it at that.

One thing I enjoy about negan’s character is that they didn’t make him fully evil or a fully good guy he’s such a well written complex character that you just love to hate him and hate to love him and his “redemption arc” which is comic accurate is good because you can root for him to do better and still not forgive him for what he done in the past he annoys me sometimes but I enjoy his character so much lol

I agree with ya’ll. Negan has done a lot to these people and I know how painful it was for Maggie but this isn’t the same Negan. You can clearly see that he’s changed and that he wants to be better. If this was the same man I’d understand but it isn’t. She can’t just show up after all these years and reset the progress he’s made with these people. That isn’t fair. She also had an opportunity to kill him and she didn’t take it. I know he was in bad shape back then but it’s not like she didn’t have her chance. He got better and now you wanna kill him? Cmon. I love Maggie but this situation always pissed me off. Negan was just starting to be accepted by everyone and people were finally starting to move on but here comes Maggie to bring up the past and drag him down. If it wasn’t for Negan, Alpha would’ve killed every last one of them.

Imo, Maggie didn't run off for years, but the show runners are cheap and wrote her off in a way that was out of character. This was a good episode at a point in the show where they're fewer and farther between which makes it seem better, imo.

Not to mention, she had a chance to kill him more than once and chose not to, and then chose to leave for 3x longer than she was there with them to begin with… and left them to handle the loss of Rick, fracturing of the communities, distance & no bridge pushing them apart, struggling leadership at Hilltop & the whole Whisperer War.

I do think it was an interesting parallel hearing “You Are My Sunshine” being sung by Hershel considering that was the song that Carl saying to Negan back in season seven when he attacked the sanctuary

I think this episode is not only one of the best of the entire series, but also provides a lot of context for things we’ve previously seen such as the entire room at the satellite outpost that was growing marijuana more than likely for genuine medicinal use because if you look back at the previous seasons, you really didn’t see anybody smoking marijuana at the sanctuary or any of their outposts so given the fact that him needing to go and find the meds for his wife cause that snowball effect, I don’t think it’s that far-fetched to understand his crash out when some random group came in and massacred a bunch of people and took the outpost that he had growing marijuana.

When said dudes ended up scrambled on the road?Bottom line Rick and Maggie made a deal and talked everyone else on board to kill a bunch of strangers in their sleep based on the words of a stranger. My opinion is that she and Rick had just as much to do with Glenn and Abe meeting Lucille as Negan himself... If we're being honest... So if she's not gonna cancel his life subscription, she should move on. Especially when she's coming back, not to visit or because she missed anybody, she's back for a place to stay and food to eat because she's once again went toe to toe with an opponent she's underestimated...

The way I see it, Maggie got selfish as heck after Glenn died. I feel it's unfair to say that Glenn dying gives her the right to do so when she facilitated the workings that led to him dying if we're being honest. She went to kill Negan and in the process cost Michonne her mate Judith her father and RJ the opportunity to ever meet him and she cost all 4 communities the bridge that was supposed to help keep them connected...All for her to decide not to kill him because he was begging to die...Then instead of living in the truth of what she had done and caused, she dipped and was gone for years... Built a new community and lived her life... And I love that for her, but coming back years after abandoning your family with your new family and expecting them to feed you,shelter you,fight the trouble you brought back with you,AND turn on one of their own, just because you're back? Nah, she want too much. She's a refugee, she should just say thanks for the help and that's it at this point.

The problem I have with the Carol/Negan situation is that she let him out of lockup and asked him to go to the Whisperers to take them out from the inside, with the promise to help him get back in with the community... She not only did not do that and bounced when he took Alpha out and he was ready to rejoin the group... but she's acting like this still.

I'm so sick of Maggie's self-righteous attitude like she better than everyone else. Her hands are not clean. Let's not forget her "kill Negan" plan led to Rick's death. Her co-conspirator Darryl had the decency to feel some guilt. Why he spent so many years alone in woods looking for him and lost his woman. Maggie was just fine. No accountability. And she hanged Gregory. Not a good moment. She could have just exiled him. Or imprisoned him. They had some cells at Hilltop. Though the Negan smirk was wicked!

I do feel like this isnt talked about enough [although for the world and characters it doesnt change anything but] I don't know if anyone has mentioned it. But IRL the reason the Maggie actress was excluded for so long was because she tried to ask for a pay raise [Especially since Rick/Andrew was out of the show] and they did not accommodate her to the point that her contract was frozen. They left her character open ended so they had the possibility to either bring her back or whatever other options they would have taken if they just wrote her out completely. [I was very personally invested in the show AND the actors/actresses & I use to follow celebs in a cult like manner 😬 so I followed it like it was my business 😅]

Nothing will ever make me team Negan 😤 not only did he murder her husband but he enslaved and graped people. What he did with the Whisperers was only making up for some of what he did, and barely that because he allowed them to destroy their homes before killing her off on purpose as payback for what happened to Saviors compound. I love negan he has always been my fav other than Rick … when Rick left I felt like that show needed him everybody was so divided and was becoming weak and they added no strength against the whispers they needed negan they couldn’t even defeat him when he was a savior so turning on him when he could easily flip the switch on them is crazy!!

The best TWD episode is Better Angels. That was the best ending for one of my favorite storylines in the entire series. This show had great writing.
