To answer the question yall asked about priest. If the priest is catholic, no matter the crime they cannot report it and must remain silent, as they took a oath before God. And if they do report they will be kicked from the church. Of course the priest is supposed to urge them to repent and change their ways, and if they show no such intention they do not receive absolution.

No if you're a priest taking confession you are forbidden from telling anyone including authorities. Confession in the Catholic religion is considered sacred, breaking the vow to hold confession can result in your excommunication. And a lot of priest take the vow seriously because when they became priests they vowed, to God, on their soul, NOT to tell people's confessions. Plus I think it's inadmissible in court. In fact, the same way that therapists and lawyers don't have to divulge what happens with their clients (or risk losing their license/careers) is the same way priest don't have to divulge what is said in confession, even if the person dies. In fact, pretty sure the therapist/lawyer protections derives from the priest protections.

A seal of confession is very important in religion, especially catholic. So generally no, a priest is not "compelled" to tell the authorities about any crimes confessed during a confessional.
