I've wanted to watch this film for a while now! I've seen the meme/ clip "Here's Johnny" several times but I've always wanted to know the context behind it...I still don't know if I got it but I enjoyed the film! S/O to everyone who pulled up live for this reaction it was a LONG but fun night! Also stay tuned because I will have more polls coming this week to see what I should check out next. Without Further ado lets get to the Shining first-time reaction!

DaSportzBoi

One of the most iconic horror movies of all-time!

Joe Crammond

smashes patreon with an axe, here's The Shining!

Despicable_Dee

I had a lil blue beetle bug 😅😂

Katie Davis

Worth reading the book by Stephen King, too! Jack is an autobiographical figure for Stephen King, representing his own personal battle with alcoholism and anger in the past. The Overlook Hotel is essentially a physical manifestation of an addiction or a poisoned environment that preys on a person's inner weaknesses. As great as Stanley Kubrick's film is, King famously did not like the portrayal of Jack in the film. In the book, he's written to be essentially decent but constantly struggling with personal demons (and externalized evil). King felt that the film portrayed Jack as rough, abusive, uncaring too early on (really from the start).

Not gone lie, I said the exact same thing after you spent 15 MINUTES talking 😂 All love 🫶 that was a long intro though. Edit: BTW, it’s called tourette syndrome and it’s real. Not a claim or some sort of “evil spiritual possession” that I’ve seen some folks proclaim. Neurodivergence and chemical imbalances in the brain are real y’all.

Nikira

Please watch Doctor Sleep next! It’s about the son Danny and it’s my favorite. I also recommend the books; there are just so many details that I wish could have been portrayed in the movies!

Patrice B

Doctor Sleep also loosely ties into Carrie if you pay attention

Violet

I'm such a big Stephen King fan and I love the movie so much and so if his other books I tried to read The Shining and I couldn't because of the...... well I won't say cuz I don't want to do spoilers but because of my childhood certain parts of the book were unbearable

Violet

I posted a picture in a different patreon chat to show them how pretty my ride home looks during the fall, and somebody said it reminded them of the beginning of The Shining LOL

David James

You're referring to the guy at the BAFTA who has Tourette syndrome. Its very real.

Katie Davis

Oh yes, good callout Violent. Yes there are some VERY difficult parts to read in the book. That is true. Good warning.

Angelica Saucedo

I'm excited to watch this! Thank you Addison! 🥰😘

Candice Batton

Adison!! You should have at least gave that poor host 1 min of listening to the description of the movie before you fast forward past all his poor hard work 🤣🤣🤣!! I was cracking up at the live 🤣🤣

Avishai

I do not keep up with the Discord. But if you have not, please watch the latest Halloween trilogy. the last movie is kinda ehhh but the first two are some of the best horror of late years. and that first one in like 2018 i think, might be the best reboot of a horror series of all time.

Crazy Taco

Same skipped all dat lol

Crazy Taco

We gotta make hi watch I Swear now since he don't believe in tourettes lol

Anaya

Am I the only one not seeing the video?

Anaya

I see the post, but not the video.

Victoria Shore

I was in the middle of watching and it cut off for me too!

sisiamt

It won’t let me watch 😒

Mr Corleone

Addison said he needed to edit out the preview conversations then im sure it'll be back up

KennethLu

Is it just me or there no video?

sisiamt

Is the video not present for anyone else orrrrrrr…

Gaster Grows

you asking these boys to read? LMAO

LB

What's up with the vid Adi?!! It says it was removed ...

Gaster Grows

Shame you couldn't watch with the group. Glad you liked it though! Really dissapointed with the viewer who had you do Texas Chainsaw remake before the original Masterpiece. Hope you guys can watch that one, the real one--sometime.

Crazy Taco

The reason Dick wears his watch face on the inside of his wrist is a brilliant subtle hint to him bieng veteran Stanley Kubrick was a perfectionist and it shows because in the book it directly states Dick's military service but in the film its only hinted at through visual storytelling and feels connected to welcome to derry that came 45 years later production wise

Kristien

Adison you do know that this movie is also streaming on both HBOMAX and Peacock

Kristien

Welcome to Derry tie into the Shining!!!

everydaynegroes

It should be up again! Let me know if it works for you. -Adison

Bundymobile_67

Easily Stanley Kubriks best work! Doctor Sleep is another movie that I think you will enjoy.

TH

Yeah I had to google this one because I had soo many questions after this movie 😂

TD MoBee

One of my favorite movies. You have to watch Doctor Sleep. It’s a sequel with a grown up Danny

Rosedawson87

The Stephen King universe is awesome!

Rosedawson87

When are you watching the movie?

Rosedawson87

Did you know King based the character Carrie on one of his students?

TD MoBee

Not Garfield is loose!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Kristien

Castle rock is also a great show to watch

Billie

Not “throw the whole kid away” 😂

MickBBrick

Not gonna lie, I highkey dislike Wendy. She was so weak-minded and weak-willed that I'm surprised she made it to the end. It would've made more sense for Dick Halloran to save Danny, with Wendy and Jack becoming permanent residents of the hotel. I don't know why, but her whole demeanor started to annoy me greatly with letting things escalate to this degree. Letting Jack talk to her crazy was wild; what happened with Danny in the past, etc.

Koko_Rootz

Was waiting for this one. Stoked!!

Koko_Rootz

Yes! Doctor Sleep next. It’s the sequel to this movie.

Andrew Jones

No Independence Day again😢

Lorena_Trigcity

Where did they leave the keys Adison? 😆

Brad O'

There is a fan theory the native tribe who was fighting the settlers put a curse on the land before they left or were nearly wiped out.

Brad O'

Also the reverse wrist watch style is a military thing. Keep watch tucked inside so you don't catch your watch on something especially in buildings. The old cook was probably in ww2 since it's set in like the 80s or 70s

Crazy Taco

Gotta do Doctor Sleep

duchess93

Hoping you understand the character more from Welcome to Derry, now.

Anaya

Yes, thanks!!!

D

First time watching the shining and I’m glad I’m watching it with Addison cause of the comedic relief. When he paused when dude said the n- word I almost spit my food out laughing. 😂

Trini1492

People are so hard on Wendy she was an emotionally abused woman probably physical as well. She was trying to cope the best she could. She was the one doing all his work and was still getting cussed out. Her and Danny always have to gauge his moods. He was a mess dealing with his own issues physchological and alcoholism. Love this movie.

Andrew Jones

If I lived there for a few months I'd probably gain 50 pounds of fat lol. they got all that icecream and junk you can eat without running out and eat as much as you'd like.

Beca_ana

Long-time YouTube viewer, new Patreon subscriber - had to jump in when I saw that you reacted to one of my favorites of all time! And I had to smile when you mentioned the Opryland Hotel - I grew up in Donelson in the 70's and 80's; we watched it go up and my high school prom was there. ;)

Rocinate

I’m sorry, where were those keys left?? 🤣

Temeculous

The manager's office in the beginning, the window that shows to the outside. Is impossible. It may be, that Jack had a delusion at this point already. Behind the office is a hallway. Not the outside. Based on the floor plan it is where Danny rides his tricycle into the kitchen.

Trev

1:50 lol pretty accurate on what I do when yall chose to pause at such an important part and rant for 5min 😂 😂

Coldrick McReynolds

Watching this movie as a kid, of course I saw the edited tv version. Had absolutely no idea Garfield would make an appearance

Missy

Please watch Doctor Sleep

Nicky A

That's how I taught to wear my watch Adison.
