For today's CREATURES OF THE NIGHT 2026 CARD 04, we take a look at TROLLS and GOBLINS! That's right. It's a two-for-one deal.

Trolls and goblins have plagued many of my heroes, from DEIMOS, to ZAHN and even ISAIAH. They've all encountered these creatures in some form or another. Whether it's through an actual comic I've drawn or a short prose story that I've written, goblins, in particular turn up often in my work. They just make such great villainous... well... villains.

Goblins seem to be quite popular these days in the world of homoerotic comic books and art in general. We see them in standalone illustrations as well as comics, and even in animations. They have a way of getting their grubby little mitts on hunky, muscular studs and doing all kinds of dastardly, deliciously deviant things to them.

As for trolls, DEIMOS certainly had his share of run-ins with them in Luro's Labyrinth in Drake's Dungeon, the video game which I participated in creating a few years back with my friend and fellow artist, HOTCHA. They've turned up since in my "Deimos Loves Luro" short story collection and beyond, which act as a kind of companion to the game.

You don't need to be Norwegian to have an appreciation of trolls. Whether they are misunderstood creatures or malevolent creatures largely depends on the individual and the story within which they appear. Certainly, in Luro's Labyrinth, they are neither evil nor malicious. They're just dumb and really, REALLY horny for DEIMOS... and honestly, who can blame them?
