Dear KI community members,
Thank you to everyone who took our community survey! We closed the survey this morning, and there were just over 1,000 responses, which is more than we hoped for. We have loved reading all of your comments so far, and we will be using this information to make the community experience better.
Also, we'd like to give a huge welcome to 368 new members that joined this week – and, as always, thank you to everyone for staying with us.
Here are some highlights from the Kyiv Independent in the last week:
We created branded apparel for the first time, which is pictured above. Unfortunately, these products are not for sale yet. We want to know what you think though, and if there is any interest in KI merch.
We have a new team member! Artem Yatsyk joined the KI this week as Executive Assistant.
We were featured in Forbes Ukraine, in an article about our business model and how we are reader-funded. The story is in Ukrainian.
Ukraine has started a southern counteroffensive. Cyrille Amoursky's "General Marchenko: ‘Mykolaiv was to be next city to fall, but Russia terribly failed’" and Daria Shulzhenko's "Ukraine reportedly begins advancing to liberate country's south" both look at the military situation near the major southern capitals Mykolaiv and Kherson, while Alexander Query's "Business far from usual in wartime Odesa" looks at the economic side of things.
We also started a new wrap-up about the war. Asami Terajima's "Ukraine war latest" is a daily update, guiding readers through major developments of the war, with analysis. So far, two topics she has covered the most are the southern counteroffensive and the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. We want to know what our readers think – what are you interested in? What are you not interested in? Is there anything you'd like to see added? You can leave a comment below or message us here.
Another popular story this week was Illia Ponomarenko's "How many tanks does Russia really have?" which analyzes what Russia might have stockpiled.
Today we published Belarus Weekly, which looks at the increased rocket attacks from Belarus after Ukraine's Independence Day. You can also subscribe and have Belarus Weekly sent directly to your inbox.
Thank you for standing by our side as we are bringing independent, locally-sourced news about Ukraine to the world.
