Dear KI community members,

Last month, we shared with you some of our video reporting on YouTube, since more video and multimedia journalism was something requested on our community survey. We also want to share with you one of our recent explainers: “Why Russian relocation of Ukrainians is not an evacuation” which breaks down Russia’s recent efforts to move 60,000 Ukrainian civilians out of Kherson.

This explainer is on TikTok and is on Instagram as a reel, and you can find the Kyiv Independent on TikTok here, and on Instagram here.

What do you think? Are there any topics you’d like to see covered next?

I really love this video and that's why I support Kiev indépendant. Is not evacuation is deportation. Thank you for this lady. ✊💛💙❤️🇨🇵

Yeah, like Jerome said, this kind of thing is why I'm a KI patron.

Good explainer. Brief, to the point, no rhetoric. Maybe do a similar explainer on Ukrainian grain exports, and how Russia is actually hurting the process?

Also, I would add that forced deportation is a theme in Ukrainian history. Stalin used this tactic to destroy Ukrainian nationalism. The other half of this is importing Russians onto Ukrainian land who are loyal to Russia. Scary stuff.

This kidnapping of Ukrainian citizens, especially women and children, is especially horrible because, even after completely kicking Russia out of Ukraine, these people are still in Russia's power. How can we even know who all of them are, where they've all been hidden away, or "adopted", in Siberia and other distant places? What can be done to get them back? For a future topic, again after kicking Russia out, how can they realistically be stopped from building up and attacking again?
