Dear Kyiv Independent community members,

Next month, the Kyiv Independent will celebrate its first anniversary. We wouldn’t have gotten here without you.

The Kyiv Independent was founded last November, after Kyiv Post employees were fired for defending their editorial independence. Within a few months, the Kyiv Independent rose to international recognition after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February.

Since then, we’ve been working hard to bring you coverage of Russia’s brutal invasion: We’ve reported from cities on the front line and areas devastated by the war, including Bucha and Irpin and Kharkiv Oblast. We’ve written war analysis, and brought personal stories of those affected by the war to the spotlight.

We believe our members are central in our future, not only because membership helps ensure we have sustainable funding, but also because of the moral support we receive from all of you. Most of our staff continue to work from Ukraine, under the threat of missile strikes and drone attacks. The level of support we’ve received from our members – and from all around the world – has been overwhelming. Thank you for standing with us.

We’ve set a goal of 10,000 members before the end of the year. Recurring contributions are our main source of revenue, and we want to have a solid foundation to continue our reporting in 2023.

We also would love the help of our current members to reach this goal! We are launching our brand ambassadorship program, and we’re looking for those willing to help spread the word about the Kyiv Independent and grow our community.

Our members know us best and are our strongest advocates. If each member found one person to be a reader or a member themselves, we’d increase our readership and easily reach our goal.

If you have any ideas on how to promote the Kyiv Independent to your community or if you’re willing to become a brand ambassador, you can reach out here on Patreon or via email to brooke@kyivindependent.com.

Thank you for your support!

I will do my best to encourage my friends to sign up with Kiev Independent. I’m very aware that Ukraine 🇺🇦 needs the worlds support to grow and that we must all resist creeping “news fatigue” or to feel the cost of helping you fight this appalling Putin agression. We must also avoid casting all Russians as aggressors, they aren’t of course, very many are suffering under Putin as well. So, how do we move on with our help? I am a Scot living in Paris - a sort of refugee from Britain’s hard rightwing politicians. I’m very pleased to see that the new British Prim Minister fully intends to continue to support Ukraine 🇺🇦. We must hold him to that as we all go into financial rescission. One very minor thing that I’m doing is to buy Ukrainian things on the internet and write to the Ukrainian sellers, showing my support for Ukraine. It may be that my correspondence with the seller is of more real worth than the value of the thing I purchased from them. So far my experience has been wholly positive everything has worked very well indeed. I will point this out to my friends and hope that they too enjoy buying from Ukraine 🇺🇦. My kind regards to all at Kiev Independent, you do a vital job very well! Stuart Nimmo. Retired BBC television programme maker.

Some good ideas here. Have you touched base with such organizations like the Ukrainian World Congress? They may be able to point you to additional audiences receptive to a good news reporting outfit. Also, if you have contact with Mykhalo Fedorov, Digital Information minister, he may be able to point you to additional audiences also. Try Serhiy Prytula, others, and see if they’d be willing to do a shout out on their social media accounts. Good luck!

When Russia is defeated by Ukraine 🇺🇦, Ukraine must not return even 1 Russian POW until every Ukrainian civilian taken and EVERY CHILD is returned to Ukraine..
