Dear Kyiv Independent community members,

Pictured above is the Kyiv Independent's reporter Asami Terajima (R), having takeout sushi with mortarmen from the 93rd Separate Mechanized Brigade at their base in Donetsk Oblast on a recent reporting trip.

We'd also like to welcome our 48 new members this week. Thank you for your continued support – it helps us invest in equipment like the new television and keeps our office running.

Here are some highlights from the Kyiv Independent over the last week:

We reported from Kherson Oblast, covering the regular crossings of Ukrainian troops to the occupied side of the Dnipro. Alexander Query's story looks at the small guerilla-style raids by Ukrainian soldiers as they probe Russia's defenses, like the reported Aug. 8 attack that resulted in a Ukrainian foothold near the village of Kozachi Laheri.

Our most popular story last week was Alexander Khrebet's piece about the increased attacks on Crimea, the central logistics point for Russian forces in southern Ukraine, as Ukrainian forces focus on disrupting Russian supply lines and ammunition depots.

We published a video explainer about Russia's destruction Ukrainian cultural heritage, which details how, since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russian forces have damaged or destroyed over 1,600 cultural facilities, including museums, churches, and historical buildings.

We also wrote about Russia's extra-judicial killing of two Ukrainian teenagers in occupied Berdiansk. Daria Shulzhenko's piece explains what we know about the murder of two 16-year-olds, Tihran Ohannisian and Mykyta Khanhanov, this June, after being persecuted by Russian proxies since last fall.

This week Belarus Weekly looks at Poland and Lithuania's growing concerns over the presence of the Wagner group and ongoing Belarusian military drills, increasing the threat of a potential provocation, especially near the Suwalki Corridor.

Episode 20 of "This Week in Ukraine" is about the tragedy of civilian life in Donbas. Host Anastasiia Lapatina sits down with reporter Asami Terajima to discuss civilian life in Donbas amid daily Russian attacks, with your questions starting at 18:20.

We're happy to announce the launch of our business desk! Business editor Lili Bivings has returned to Kyiv from her studies in U.S. to work full-time, and we're excited to expand our coverage to business, preparing the Kyiv Independent to report on post-war Ukraine.

Thank you for standing by our side as we bring independent, locally-sourced news about Ukraine to the world.
