Dear Kyiv Independent community members,
Thank you for your continued support and for standing with us! The majority of our revenue comes from recurring contributions from our members. It's thanks to you we have a source of stable funding, despite living through the instability of war.
We'd also like to welcome the 63 new members this week – thank you for joining us.
Here are some highlights from the Kyiv Independent over the past week:
Our podcast "This Week in Ukraine" is back for its second season! The new host, our TikTok producer Masha Lavrova, is joined by business reporter Dominic Culverwell to discuss the importance of investing in Ukraine and Russia's economic war against Ukraine, with the community question at 33:20. Pictured above, Dominic and Masha record the podcast earlier this week.
Our most popular story last week was Francis Farrell's article about the Ukrainian resistance movements inside occupied territories, speaking with three individuals involved in coordinating resistance operations with the Yellow Ribbon and Atesh movements.
We explained how American-made microchips are killing Ukrainians: Despite sanctions, nearly two years into the full-scale invasion, Western-made parts, such as microchips, are still found in Russian weapons.
We reported on the funeral of fallen soldier and poet Maksym Kryvtsov. The photo story shows the funeral for Kryvtsov, who was killed in combat at 33 years old, at the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery in Kyiv. Kryvtsov was a prominent poet and volunteer, who had recently published his book "Poems from the Gunhole."
This week Belarus Weekly looks at Lukashenko's new, restrictive laws around religious organizations, requiring all denominations to reapply for state registration and broadening grounds for their banning.
Two more people joined the Kyiv Independent team! Please welcome Andrea Januta, who will be joining our team as a reporter, and Liza Nechyporuk, who is joining us as a social media manager! We're excited to have them with us.
Thank you for standing by our side as we bring independent, locally-sourced news about Ukraine to the world.
