We need your questions for our next episode of “This Week in Ukraine.” The topic this week is the fall of Avdiivka.

Hi! I'm so sorry and so worried about this situation and how things are going right now... 🫤 But, anyway, my question is: what relation would you draw between this retreat and Zaloujny's replacement at the top of the AFU? Is there any causality one way or the other? What might have happened differently under his command? Thanks.

Alex Forsyth

How was the withdrawal organized? Was it ordered or was it a last-ditch attempt to save the troops that could get out of the pocket as the Russians closed in? And were there already plans in place for such a withdrawal before Zaluzhnyi's removal or was it done entirely as a result of the changes in command?

Carl Lingelbach

One of the things that is killing the Democratic Party in the US is the severe lack of messaging and looks like it happens in Ukraine as well. General Zaluzhnyi who I would assume wasn't put out to pasture as he is I hope an integral and necessary part of your country's power structure, as in a political type seat of power. He has not been thrown to the curb. His tenure from the start of the invasion to the end of the "offensive" was exemplary and your loss of Avdiivka was the first major setback after he left. Avdiivka didn't just happen, it's been tenuous for some time. I agree if America had kept the supplies coming we may be having a different conversation.
