Nothing like a bit of poison to spice things up for Maomao 🤭😈🤣, everyone has their tastes I suppose.

chui

I'm super amused by your theories on Jinshi's reaction to Maomao's experiences, and how that theory and pity carries into this episode during Maomao's imagination.

Rue

Great reaction as always! I'm glad you guys seem to be enjoying the show! I'm not sure if someone has already commented on or clarified the topic of concubines, but here's what I understand about their role in the context of the show. The concept of concubinage in historical contexts is multifaceted, often serving both political and personal purposes. While some aspects are explored in later episodes, let me offer my take to clear up any confusion. Concubines were typically women who, although not legally wives, had a recognized relationship with someone in power, such as an Emperor or a noble. Their role often extended beyond personal companionship and could be integral to maintaining political alliances, stabilizing power, or producing heirs (Like Gyokuyou and Lihua). The Emperor has concubines from various prominent families. Families that offered their daughters to gain favor, forge alliances, or maintain influence. This arrangement helps the Emperor maintain political support and ensure loyalty from key regions or factions within the court. So basically Concubines are important to the Emperor's power structure, reinforcing his political stability and influence (of course they serve for his pleasure and fun as well). But public events in the garden aren't just for relaxation or entertainment; they serve as carefully orchestrated displays of political power, where every move and every detail has significance, that's why Jinshi was worried. Anyone please feel free to add info or correct anything I got wrong~

Rue

And yeah, you got that right. The previous Emperor was.....weird....but the current one seems fine so far!

I love that already the discussion part is the same length as the reaction part! The mysteries/secrets in those show are great!

Im watching this anime alongside you and so far the idea of jinshi being an euneuch i feel just come from maomao, he has way too much of a standing and a guardian with him at all times (in ancient china as far as i know no euneuch have guardians) so could be as ange was saying but we have to wait....this series is convincing me to watch all in a sitting

watching your discussions, i'm even more excited for your reaction to the next episode! this episode 6 in particular has a lot of very confusing details (personally struggled to follow). rewatching episodes is quite the eye-opener 😂 the show does have a fair share of dark themes that are supposed to make us uncomfortable. tragic realities of the time

I made so many predictions while watching this show, and most of them were wrong lol. There are a lot of little details that seem to be throwaway points. Great reaction as always guys, love your post-episode discussions

Those details are for the future stories so they'll be easier to understand. It's still quite far into the story so it's not shown in this season but they'd probably show it in season2. If it has 20+ episodes again then it could be possible. The show also takes a quick break from the main issue/mystery from time to time and present...I guess...a "side quest" for Maomao in the meantime. And while they do that, they mix in stuff connected to the main mystery so you really need to pay attention and remember all the happenings 😆.

AD definitely gave me the biggest urge to reread and rewatch material just because I wanna spot all the foreshadowing crumbs I might've missed 😂

True. I sometimes just spend a couple minutes on a page just rereading and understanding every dialogue 😆 Also, putting side quests aren’t enough the author also throws in some sh*t that’d make us emotional as well. Distracting us even more from the main issue and end up forgetting about it 😆

Then when it’s time for the big reveal…🤯🤯🤯🤯 WTF?!

Lihaku was standing up on his toes to make him look bigger.

So, I just paid a month for the same free reaction in Youtube?. 😤
