I'm hyped for this one but I'm also scared to watch it. You guys remember IU is Queen of Ktraumas and Byeon Woo Seok dies alot in his dramas. 😂 I'm kind of debating if I should wait for the show to complete.

If King The Monarch won the poll you would be watching two similar shows cause it has modern monarchy theme as well but there is another twist in that drama (still hope you never waste time for that drama sorry I am a hater 🤣) There are some older kdramas with same theme like Goong aka princess hours (which was super popular) or King 2 hearts

Yeah, this isn't the first modern monarch fantasy. The King Internal probably has the best version of a modern monarchy. The story itself depends on your personal taste but the monarchy in that is the best I've seen. I think this version is kind of like England. Royalty is only in name mostly.

IU's brother in this drama has also played Bo Gum's brother in Record of Youth. He was also a turd in that drama. 😂

The reason they said wearing red in palace is forbidden is because red is king's colour, as you saw, king wears the red dragon robe, so someone else wearing red is controversial (but huiju is attention seeker so work well for her haha)

Her character here does reminds me of manwol a lil too, both are fierce, rich and confident af, and I love seeing her play roles like these, she does a good job, it's fun to watch.

And yeah "The king: eternal monarch" has similar structure, of monarchy in modern time period, but well it didn't win. It was a treat to watch such a theme for the first time there, they did it well.

The King 2 Hearts (2012) is also a modern monarchy drama! With an insane plot. A North korean govt. (similar to the real one), a South Korean monarchy and the two trying to make peace and achieve arirang through a wedding!..,when Justin mentioned the modern monarchy it triggered the nolstagia and i had to dig into the kdrama archives to pull this one out lol.I can't believe I almost forgot about this legendary drama, cause anything with Ha Ji Won doing fighting scenes and stunts is just epic!

It's kind of funny but understandable how you Americans don't understand how royal succession works, hence all the confusion. Prince Suyang (aka King Sejo) was mentioned here because he basically stole the crown from his very young nephew (King Danjong) and killed him afterward. They are obviously drawing the parallel with Prince I-An and the current little king.
