Paper Tiger

Let's be real, this was such a sh*t show. Of the shows you watched, I'd say this was worse than Brewing Love and Itaewon Class combined. At the very least actors were actually giving a performance rather than modeling. Here is what a Korean critic said about this show which pretty much sums up exactly what I felt right from the 1st episode. "I was asked whether I’m not going to critique Perfect Crown. But I think of it less as a ‘drama’ and more as a moving photoshoot, so it’s not something I’m interested in as someone who critiques dramas. I did watch the first two episodes and... No matter how genre-transcending the content may be, I believe the structure has to at least make sense within that world for the characters and narrative to have plausibility. And that is exactly what Perfect Crown failed at the most. The drama ruined its narrative and characters? Then I don’t consider that a drama. At that point, I Am Solo is more of a drama. First of all, it’s not ‘No. 1 globally = a good drama,’ and it’s also not ‘spirit of the times = exempt from criticism.’ Just because something is No. 1 globally and has a strong fandom does not mean you can say that a poorly made work was made well. It probably prioritized being something that would ‘sell well.’ That’s why it comes across like a ‘moving photoshoot’… But then I guess that’s what the public wants."

Harris' take on IU's acting mirror's a comment I left on Mydramalist about this show a week ago which was "Your nephew and the love of your life get into a terrifying car accident... gets out of the car... poses... then slowly struts to show off his fashion and how pretty he is. Meanwhile, IU's shots are mostly her, again, getting out of a car... pose... walking into a room... pose... sitting down... stare... then STARE some more... Then stare juuuust a bit more so the viewers can tell how much chemistry they (don't) have 🙄To be clear, I'm not blaming the actors, at least not entirely. The writing and directing are level A atrocious. IU & Byeon Woo Seok are good actors but they are the type of actors that require good material and good direction to perform well. They are not at the skill level that would lift up bad material just by sheer acting performance such as Kim Go Eun, Park Eun Bin, Jung Hae In, or Ahn Eun Jin. The fact that this was a follow up to IU's masterpiece WLGT and Byeon Woo Seok's Lovely Runner is truly a tragedy."

Paper Tiger

Harris, your score was pretty generous I gave it a 3. And Justin... six? SIX? Just joking, glad that it was 6 for you 😂

Zozo

Lmaoo same I also gave it a 3

Paper Tiger

It was 1 point for the kid, 1 point for the laughs at all the posing, and 1 point for feeling bad about giving it a score of 2

I agree with literally EACH AND EVERY take of yours on this drama. Seriously what a big mess, it lacked in EVERYTHING. Only good thing about this drama was pretty faces, QUEEN MOTHER 🧎🏻‍♀️ and ost. Everything sucks, idek how else to describe this shit, big waste of time😭 They tried to fit in so many things making it feel something grand, but everything ended up being a boring unfinished mess. Probably one of the worst drama I've watched in a long time, 4/10.

And I agree best written character was indeed Queen mother, her character was consistent, had depth and a good character development. I do wish we had more time fleshing out her switch, because it did felt a lil sudden 180, but that's okay ig, with the provided screentime her character was the best it could be.

I think Hyeon and Ms.Do could've been so much better if they actually started setting them up from ep1, but they just shoved them together on our faces in the middle of the drama. I also don't like when the writer push side characters as a couple for the sake of it, but these 2 were so cute together, would've been more convincing if they had more quality screentime.

Yuri ⋆。°✩

The whole "abolishing the monarchy" should've been a main plot point in second half of the drama, it's a big deal and there's so much debate they could've portrayed, but no they focused on PM Min villain arc which was boring, predictable and annoying af.

Perfect crown was 16 episodes production but MBC cut the show to 12 episodes. i read the scripts of this show( the scripts came out yesterday) . And there were so many scenes were deleted, that’s the reason why the storyline was so messy and incomplete. I can’t believe this drama was directed by the director of 「Alchemy of Souls 」and 「What's Wrong with Secretary Kim」…. This show really wasted this casting line up….

Yuri ⋆。°✩

Apparently after hearing all the criticism towards their acting the director said that he himself told BWS to hold back on his emotions and expressions while acting, because a prince shouldn't........bla bla bla. They said that while filming Wooseok tried to be expressive but director kept stopping him. And same case with IU being dramatic and all. Now given this while i understand why they acted the way they did, i still did not like it. I didn't feel the emotions, I felt bored seeing them on my screen (which i never imagined i would). I can see that both of them tried their best acting the way they were told, and are good actors, but yeah it sucked, whoever's fault it was. As Harris said IU tried her best and we can see it but she couldn't carry the drama when literally EVERYTHING is a mess. I really don't wanna act like a hater because it is a result of so many people's hardwork, but if it's bad, it's just BAD 😭

Paper Tiger

Well, that confirmed my suspicion that the acting was that bad because of directing. I get what he was trying to achieve with the role of a prince but Byeon Woo-seok is not at the skill-level to pull this off. I'm not saying he's a bad actor, but he is not a nuanced and experienced actor. Very few young actors can pull the "be cold, show no emotion, be enigmatic" vibe because it requires subtlety which is part raw talent, part refined through long experience. I'm thinking of an older actor's performance, Cho Seung-woo in Stranger.

Lost_IRL

Hope u watch My Royal Nemesis :)

Paper Tiger

🤣 Fine. Just for your love for mama, I'll give it 1 more point 😂

Paper Tiger

Thank u for making it a fun reaction even though the show was trash, ur saints 🙏 THANK you for always being honest rather than glazing shows u don't actually like ❤️ And consider yourself lucky My Dearest won the poll instead of The King. Watching this and the king at the same time would have been a one-two punch 🤣

Yuri ⋆。°✩

Yeah true. Director said something like that he wanted aura and cold demeanor which wooseok has, to which sure I can see the vision, but it alone does not makes him "live" the character, as you said, he isn't a bad actor, he just needs to improve more from experience, hopefully perfect crown was an experience he can learn and improve from. The only young actor i can think of rn who can do the 'emotions through cold face' acting that i wanted from Wooseok is Park Jihoon.

Maia

If you're looking for a romcom you guys should really consider watching My Royal Nemesis in the future. It hasn't ended yet only 4 episodes are out, but it's one of the best I've seen in a long time. Yeon-Jin from glory is the main girl and she's killing it.

Paper Tiger

I was actually thinking of Lee Jae-wook. Park Ji-hoon gives more depressed than broody enigmatic romantic lead but that might be because I only saw him in Weak Hero 😅

Paper Tiger

I've learnt a hard lesson of not recommending a drama that's still airing (Dear X) since there is no guarentee yet that it would stick the landing. Many dramas start strong and then just crumble midway through. But I'm keeping this one in my to watch list just in case.

Yuri ⋆。°✩

Yeah Lee Jae wook is pretty great too, i agree. I can see why you think that of Park ji hoon, i somewhat do agree, I've seen him as a romantic lead 2 times, and i wouldn't say he has the aura we were talking about, but he can portray raw emotions even with a straight face, he understands those nuances. Both great actors tho.

Yuri ⋆。°✩

Yeah I agree, as much as I'm loving My royal nemesis, I'll always be scared for the drama to go shit anytime, it always happens, let's see how it ends, hopefully if it's good we can keep recommending. I also wish they would watch We are all trying here, only 2 eps remaining to air and it has been a solid drama, dare I even say a masterpiece to me, it's not a romcom tho.

Maia

Yea I'm hoping my royal Nemesis will be the exception cuz it's so good, it will be shame if it gets ruined. We are all trying here is so good as well, so emotional and its really comforting, at least for me.

Aj

Please react to THE HEIRS 🙏🙏

I would LOVE to see your reaction to "Yumi's cells"🙏
