Hey everyone,

Just a quick update on what's cooking in the project:

Currently ironing out some issues with skinning weights. Found a few spots here and there that need fixing before diving into animations.

Noticed a slight problem with the tail positioning—it's ended up a bit too far up on the model and isn't looking quite right. Going to fix that pronto and move it back a little.

Once those tweaks are sorted, I'll be diving into a bunch of tasks simultaneously:

Bringing the skeleton and locomotion animations into Unreal Engine and setting up our new character.

Sending the mesh over to ZBrush and Substance to start working on the skin textures.

Continuing to work in Blender, setting up the Control Rig to handle the more H content.

Stay tuned!

Cheers!Alexandraus

Dying Breed

Hello, I’m a new member trying this out and provide some feedback. I tried out the demo or beta and while I can tell it’s still in development, I still have a few points to make. 1. This might be obvious, but I would like the controls to be far more snappy and response. As it is, it feels like I am controlling a boat when I am moving a character. 2. Please increase the speed that the female character climbs ladders. 3. When lizardman attacks the female character, she would sometimes go flying through the walls and get stuck outside of the level in the tunnel with the glowing mushrooms. 4. The female character’s eyes do not look good. If there is a way you can make them not look so wooden, that would be great. 5. That whirlpool on the other side of the tunnel with glowing mushrooms seems impossible to get out of. If there is no need to go in it, can it be blocked off or some way to get out of it be added? 6. I’m sure sound effects will be added, but for sex scenes, especially between human female characters and the lizard guy, have it so the sex scenes have a impactful clapping to them. Not that weak “tap, tap, tap” but more akin to when you cup the palms of your hands and clap that way. 7. A minimap would be a great help when more levels get added. It’s very easy to get lost if more tunnels are added, or the very more landmarks to help tell where the player is. 8. A better UI would be great to have sooner than later. 9. The game takes forever to boot up to a point I force quit the program because I think it crashed. 10. This isn’t really feedback per se, but is there a reason for the roadmap to be present in the opening menu? Will it be included soon, if so that would be great. Also, if I wanted to suggest new characters, are we allowed to suggest non-humans or is it just humans? And what did it mean in the “about” section where Patrons can “create a side story”?

Hi! :D Thanks a lot! It's great when here is feedback from players, as it allows me to understand if development is going in the right direction. It is very important. I duplicated the questions and added the answers. 1. This might be obvious, but I would like the controls to be far more snappy and response. As it is, it feels like I am controlling a boat when I am moving a character. - Agreed, the movements do appear cumbersome and heavy. This is due to our use of Motion Matching technique, which aims to enhance movement quality for smoother and more natural animations. However, Motion Matching has its drawbacks, including low responsiveness to player input and challenges with network replication. It's not well-suited for dynamic scenes where immediate character response is crucial. Additionally, transitioning from a shooter to this control style can be inconvenient for players. We're deliberating whether to abandon Motion Matching or find ways to enhance it. 2. Please increase the speed that the female character climbs ladders. - This will be addressed in later stages. Currently, it's only a conceptual phase, much like Motion Matching. Our focus at this early development stage is to ensure all functionalities are in place, with fine-tuning to come later. 3. When lizardman attacks the female character, she would sometimes go flying through the walls and get stuck outside of the level in the tunnel with the glowing mushrooms. - I've encountered this issue as well. Fast-moving physical objects tend to clip through other objects during collisions. I'm actively seeking a solution. Additionally, we need to implement functionality to return characters and objects to their proper positions if they stray off the map. 4. The female character’s eyes do not look good. If there is a way you can make them not look so wooden, that would be great. - Certainly, the eyes will undergo significant improvement later, especially for close-up shots. We're also refining facial animations for enhanced realism: https://twitter.com/ProjectHerald/status/1511152707280777225 5. That whirlpool on the other side of the tunnel with glowing mushrooms seems impossible to get out of. If there is no need to go in it, can it be blocked off or some way to get out of it be added? - Numerous similar issues exist throughout the map. Rest assured, everything will be rectified in due course. 6. I’m sure sound effects will be added, but for sex scenes, especially between human female characters and the lizard guy, have it so the sex scenes have a impactful clapping to them. Not that weak “tap, tap, tap” but more akin to when you cup the palms of your hands and clap that way. - Noted! However, this won't be applied to every animation; it will depend on the context. I aim for sound effects to be appropriately fitting. Here's an example of my sound work: https://twitter.com/ProjectHerald/status/1511496322007941132 7. A minimap would be a great help when more levels get added. It’s very easy to get lost if more tunnels are added, or the very more landmarks to help tell where the player is. - The navigation system was not on the list, but let's see what we can do. I prefer a minimalistic UI, so instead of a minimap, we may embed directional guidance into the environment. Additionally, there will be a "global map" for swift location changes. 8. A better UI would be great to have sooner than later. - I am actively seeking a UI designer. It would be easier if there was good funding and we could hire him. For now, our focus remains on the technical aspects of the project. 9. The game takes forever to boot up to a point I force quit the program because I think it crashed. - The extended boot-up time is a known issue. I'm currently investigating its cause to resolve it promptly. 10. This isn’t really feedback per se, but is there a reason for the roadmap to be present in the opening menu? Will it be included soon, if so that would be great. - Did you mean add the roadmap to the main menu? I believe it's a good idea and will consider implementing it. Thank you! 11. Also, if I wanted to suggest new characters, are we allowed to suggest non-humans or is it just humans? And what did it mean in the “about” section where Patrons can “create a side story”? - You can propose both human and non-human characters. Additionally, you're welcome to suggest sidelines such as stories or quests that could introduce these characters, delve into their backgrounds, and showcase their personalities. I am completely open to what will happen in the project. The main thing is to remember that these suggestions/additions follow the game lore and the idea, where the entire plot takes place in the future with minimal focus on the era of the great pharaohs. I carefully document all suggestions in an internal knowledge base. So, if you have any ideas to share, please don't hesitate to let me know. Let's discuss it further! 😊 c.

But I'm glad to hear the eyes will be improved. "6. Nothing ruins things for me then bad sound design. "7. A minimap would be a great help when more levels get added. Landmarks to help identify and keep track is okay too! And fast travel would also be a great quality of life improvement too. ----------------------- " You can propose both human and non-human characters. I've been reading up on some of the older posts and you mentioned only working with pre-made models. Does this mean you only accept stuff in the Unreal Engine Marketplace? If so, what engine version are you using?

Alexandraus

You can suggest new characters by providing a sketch or description of them. If you have a ready-made 3D model, that's even better! Whether it's from the Unreal Engine Marketplace or elsewhere, it doesn't matter. The important thing is that the character is as complete as possible, so I'll have to make fewer changes.

Dying Breed

Awesome! Here is my suggestions separated in human and non-human: Non-Humans: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/assets?count=20&sortBy=effectiveDate&sortDir=DESC&start=0&tag=31380 Much like your post on the other denizens in the the tunnels, here are a few more suggestions. The "Rex Man" is one of many "bosses" in the tunnels while the others are his underlings. Rex and Lizard could be enemies, where I thought of a side story earlier today. Sandy gets kidnapped by the lizards while she is exploring the tunnels. She gets taken back to their lair where Rex is and you can switch between Sandy and Lizardman during the mission. As Sandy, you can attempt to escape on your own to reunite with Lizardman, or seduce Rex and his lizard followers so Lizardman can find the lair without fighting any enemies. If Sandy ever got caught trying to escape, the other lizards would have their way with her, bring her back to Rex who would also have his way with her too. However, should Sandy successfully seduce Rex and the other lizards, she'd get them all into a gangbang and allow Lizardman to rescue her. Once Lizardman gets Sandy out of Rex's lair, he would reclaim her afterwards in a sex scene. https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/egyptian-god-seth I like the idea of this creature being some "locked away deep in the Earth" like enemy that gets mistakenly unleashed. Both Sandy and Lizardman have to avoid this monster at all times, or at least hope to seduce and exhaust him enough to escape. https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/snake-warrior No real story to this yet, just like the idea of a serpent type enemy since this is in a desert setting. https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/rhinoceros-beetle-monster Same as the snake, just think this would be cool to have. Human: https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/techwear-girl I'd like to see this as an Ada Wong type of character. Sent by a rival organization to the militants who discover the tomb, this character was meant to infiltrate, gather intel, and possibly steal anything of value. Unfortunately, she end up in a similar circumstance as Sandy. https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/modern-girls-bundle-2 https://www.unrealengine.com/marketplace/en-US/product/customizable-katana-girl-tia I would like one of these to be the CEO of the militants and the other a scientist studying the creatures and really into the idea of mating with them. I'm not sure which would be which. ------------------ And that is it. I know this a lot and understand if you turn down using any of them. I also just got home and still learning the rules here, so feel free to let me know if any of these are not allowed or you simply cannot do them. Thank you for your time.

Alexandraus

Cool, thanks a lot! I have stored this comment in its entirety into the list of suggestions. Some thoughts. The Theropod Rex Man 3D Model looks amazing! I also had an idea to make rescue missions, in case the player cannot rescue a character who is imprisoned or enslaved. :D I need to think. Regarding the Egyptian gods, we must be careful here for two reasons: in the story, the Egyptian "gods" (some of them) were created by the herald and; it must correlate with ancient Egyptian mythology, the game must reliably explain why this or that god appeared in the past. Anpu is one of them. But I will consider Sutekh (Seth) too. :D I also have a lot of references for Naga (snake man) in my knowledge base, but it is extremely difficult to animate. For now I think, most likely we won’t make such a 3D model.

Dying Breed

Awesome! Thank you for your time. Is it okay if I make more suggestions or would you prefer I give them after a new update post?

Alexandraus

Of course, more suggestions are always welcome! :D

Dying Breed

Thank you. Sorry for the late reply, been dealing with shoulder pains and only are tolerable now. Only two big suggestions as I am still learning what this game is exactly. Speaking of which, I'll make this 3 suggestions then: 1. It isn't very clear what type of game this is besides it's Adult. Is it survival horror? An RPG? Some upfront clarity would help. 2. If one isn't planned, can their be a central hub for characters to return to, like a camp of some kind? I like the idea of Sandy coming back to camp and Lizardman and another character in the middle of sex, and Sandy can ask to join in. 3. The camera controls during sex scenes is a chore to use. I'd love it if maybe the slowed down speed was the default and the scroll wheel on my mouse be used to zoom in, while WASD is purely for up, down, left, right movement.

Alexandraus

Sorry for the late reply! :D 1. Our initial idea is to blend elements of survival, stealth, and a bit of action to support characters during missions. However, it's a bit premature to nail down specifics, as our vision may evolve over time due to various factors. 2. Absolutely. We're considering options like a hidden camp or a mobile base. And yes, players should have the ability to switch control between characters during missions. 3. Are you suggesting a free camera control scheme using WASD and the mouse?

Dying Breed

“3. Are you suggesting a free camera control scheme using WASD and the mouse?” Because of my shoulder, it has been a while since I could play the demos. I remember that the controls are annoying to use and moving the camera around was an unpleasant experience. I distinctly remember how the mouse scroll was terrible to use. I’ll boot the game up again and see if I can be more specific after playing again.

Alexandraus

It's amazing how short my memory is. In fact, the latest versions have gained WASD camera control. :D From release notes: "Implemented a Fly Camera when the paired Animation Scene is active. You can activate this by pressing the "X" button and use WASD and the Right Mouse Button to fly around the characters. Don't forget, you may also activate the Scene editor by pressing "R" and use it along with the fly camera."
