A new beginning.

We're going back in time with you all to see how SVT was born.

Are you all excited? Because we very much are. It's always special to see a predebut show of a group, but especially when we're at where we are with SVT—a bit of knowledge, but not too extensively—so this is going to be extra special :D

There WERE a lot of missing captions, as well as wrong translations, but I didn't focus too much on translating or correcting every single thing since they weren't too important (although you will still find plenty of my added CCs XD). Just take everything with a grain of salt. Hopefully things do get better with episode 2!

Either way, if you do have questions, definitely let us know :)

Otherwise, let's just talk about how cute the members are, and how fun this series is going to be :D

Enjoy <3

PS. And no, this will NOT be replacing the usual Thursday content down the road, so do not worry! :)

OH MY GOSH!! i havent watched it yet but this is my initial reaction

Hannie 1004

Ohmyghaaaaaddd THANK YOU VERY MUCH!! Everytime I watch 17Project I still feel nervous for SVT whether they will debut or not 😅

heavenscloud17

seventeen tv (the show in suchwita) was before project 17. This is more about the actual members and their debut whereas seventeen tv was on when the members and other trainees were literally still joining the company to become trainees, it was literally just a livestream that went on for hours that showed their days and what they did. so yes the members were already known to the public through seventeen 17. idk if I explained that well but I hope it helps!!

AHHH!!! yes cant wait to go on this journey with you guys!! But just to make a suggestion I recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ3PknIaAME this video series its long but its a very good way to get to know pre debut and freshly debuted seventeen they also have 2 more episodes which are about the journey after debut other things but if you want to learn more stuff about pre debut svt the 1st ep/video is gives you a lot which isnt exactly recorded and said out loud so yeah just a recommendation you dont have to go through with this video but it is genuinely a very well put together video. Thank you!!! cant wait for the next upload!!!

"good thing we're from the future" -- like for real, that's what we gotta hold on to esp. on the first few eps. love your cooing, smiling and just enjoying the very young sevongs. they're adorable and naturally charming.

Best surprise to start off the day with! I've only seen some parts of 17 Project, never the whole thing from start to finish, so looking forward to watching it all with you. Thanks as always for the amazing content you continue to bless us with!

dav

not familiar with the ceo but I heard a lot of carats don't like him(?) if anyone knows inform me why pls!! I know for sure that vice president of pledis is so close with the members

The CCTV-like videos were a different thing. Those were from 17TV, which were 1hr-2hr livestreams of them in their green training room (has since been referred to as the ‘Melona Room’). They weren’t the final lineup yet then. Four trainees in 17TV didn’t make it into Seventeen. Also The8 wasn’t in 17TV, he wasn’t a trainee yet. 17TV was from Dec 2012 to (Aug?) 2014, while Seventeen Project aired in May 2015.

ddaddu

when will the mincoups salondrip ep be released then?

Fun fact: Mark PD in one interview discussed regarding the show. He said that when Pledis and MBC had meeting for this show, he came up with the current usual idols survival show and seeing 13 trainees participating, he is expecting to do 7 member vs 6 member group survival show or something. But Pledis said that they wont eliminate anyone from the 13 because this is the boys that stays with company. these are the remaining trainees that still hold up the faith to debut with Pledis while other trainees all left the company which by the way was in the verge of bankruptcy. So Mark PD ask, show like this need drama and we need stories like elimination to pique viewers interest. what motivates this 13 boys. what is sentimental that can riled this boys enough to put up the drama in the show? So Han Sungsoo replied that first Seventeen are in dire for debut and “I noticed that they have never take off the ring we gave them, it seems so precious to them and they keep on mentioning how meaningful the ring is” and that is how Mark PD builds the show around the theme of the ring and debut showcase. Anyway. Looking forward to the next one! Love, a Carat. 🌕💍

Just to clarify some things you asked about this because it's important to understand the circumstances surrounding 17Project. 17TV and 17Project are two different things. 17TV is their live broadcast sessions they did when they were trainees; they would practice hours on end, and where you can see ex-trainees join and leave before the official lineup was finalized; whenever we talk about the "melona prison", we're typically referring to 17TV. 17Project is more like a survival show where they get to prepare for their debut WITH official lineup already decided, hence the rings and why losing them during the missions was such a big deal for them. The comment about HSS was so funny because we, as a fandom, have a very up and down relationship with the CEO and the company. They have always supported the group but sometimes, you really question their treatment of their activities, but I don't want to bring so many negative energy towards this or spoil too much. Also, don't feel to bad about talking about HSS, we always do haha. The members have repeatedly talked about how during their career, they've maintained a rookie-like mentality and why they still have the same passion and determination just like you will see during this 17Project. So, I think that's why you feel like they haven't changed a thing, they just got wiser, more confident, yet still love what they do, even after all this time. I'm so excited you finally get to see baby seventeen, their growing pains and the start of their amazing journey. Watching 17Project makes you appreciate all the hard work they put into their artistry and why they deserve to be successful. Just a little tip, have some tissues and some type of food/drink, because this is a long journey and you better expect the unexpected. Let's gooo!!!

From what i know, the dislike on Han Sungsoo-nim was more on the overall mismanagement (lack of promotions) of the groups. He experimented on marketing Nu'est which sadly failed. Plus Pledis wasn't able to promote properly their girl groups and ended up wasting so many talented artists like Hello Venus. Pristin and them Fromis 9. So yeah, it wasn't necessarily about SVT. If anything, they're the ones who did the best among all the groups. Especially, as you also mentioned, SVT was handled by VP Kim Yeonsoo-nim, instead of HSS... This, I think, convinced people that the wrong decisions and shortcomings were from HSS.

thanks for the info !!

You're finally starting the journey that every carat has to go through: SEVENTEEN DEBUT PROJECT! Personally, I hate and love this show. It's their origin story, but oh boy does it make me cry every time. They're so mean to the members!!! When the CEO asked DK why he's smiling I was legitimately livid the first time I was watching it I was out for blood. The fans have a complicated relationship with the company and the CEO. We're grateful they support Seventeen, but the support itself is not... Great. It's all complicated. To answer some questions: - No, this is not the thing Han-C was talking about. What he was talking about is called 17TV, and it was a broadcast show that happened every few days since 2013 in seasons 1-5. They're not necessary to watch as they're in pretty bad quality and also there's a bunch of them, but on your free time you could look up 17TV clips and see the real fetus teens in the melona priso- melona ROOM. Bonus: Since you guys never got to hear it, here is the order of when every member became a trainee from first to last: Scoups 2009-2015 Woozi 2010-2015 Hoshi 2011-2015 Wonwoo - 2011-2015 Mingyu - 2011-2015 Jun 2012-2015 DK 2012-2015 Seungkwan 2012-2015 Vernon 2012-2015 Dino 2012-2015 Joshua 2013-2015 Jeonghan 2013-2015 The8 2014-2015 (yes, he trained for less than 10 months before debut!) So you can see how some of them spent almost their entire childhood in the company. They debuted when Scoups, the oldest, was not even 20 yet, and Dino just turned 16. To quote Seventeen themselves: "we lived every day like we're going to debut the next month. We lived like that for two years." So you can sort of understand the stress the must've felt. Other stuff if we're talking about trivia! - Vernon is 6 years older than his little sister! He also appeared on Show Me The Money! - Mingyu passed his Pledis audition by singing the national anthem - Jeonghan passed HIS audition to Pledis by clapping - Seventeen's original debut concept was dark and dangerous, like many other boy groups in their era - On January 1st 2015 the members climbed to the top of Bukhansan to catch the sunrise and wish for a successful debut.

Can't wait for episode 2! but I'm so nervous watching this 🥲 Thank God we're from the future!

For some context as to their state of mind on this show, Seventeen was first announced as a group at the end of 2012, with a debut projected somewhere in 2013. However, that debut date was pushed back multiple times thoughout the next 2 years. While this definitely helped the boys build a strong bond because they trained together as a group (and not separate trainees competing against each other) for 2 years, it was also extremely tough mentally because they were kept constantly on their toes for those 2 years, practicing harder and longer only to be disappointed time and again. Some trainees left because they felt like the group would never debut and, given Pledis' tough financial situation back then, that was a real possibility. The ring ceremony, and the rings themselves, were a sign they were finally leaving this state of limbo they had been kept in for 2 years. The ring carries all the ups and downs they went through, all the endless hours they put in, all the sacrifices they made in those 2 years. And it's also a physical representation of their hopes and dreams finally becoming reality.

Finally! thank you so much 17tv was started 2 years before seventeen debut

konekochan

Yessss it's finally here! This series really is bittersweet, sometimes it gets hard to watch. I'm very proud of them working hard and enduring so much in their earlier years, but i wish they could've had it a bit easier. This younger baby seventeen would be so proud to see where they are now 🩷 I think we owe their humility and genuineness now partly to the hard times they experienced, but ahhh they were just kids 🥲🥲

Thunder Monkey

Yaaaaaaay!!! Thank you, HanC and DSome! You guys are the GOAT!

Laini

I actually hated watching this when i was a baby carat bc it felt so unnecessarily cruel. They’re pretty much all just children but being expected to have the poise and experience of adults

T. A

Thank god we are from the future, love that you started these series, I cant wait for more.

Fay

After a while, when you get to the recent GOSE episodes, you’ll see the one where they reenact fights from this time and it’s so crazy how they created the set bc it looks exactly like this dorm😭

Fay

“I wanna feed him kimbap” is so real😭😭 that’s why the members said he joined as this cute kid and members like mingyu and minghao always feed him

Fay

Vernon and his sister Sofia are so sweet and it’s so lovely that nowadays, she brings her friends to his concerts and can celebrate. She often still says how she misses him! Their age gap is 6 years

ponchi

I havent watched this yet so its my first time reacting with you guys. Somehow this show seems cruel 😭

T_큐티_섹시_러블리

Hoping for Nana Tour but I'm happy for this. Watched it when it was first released a long time ago!

to answer your question if the boys have ever looked back on their old videos, answer is yes. they actually reacted to their old selves twice on air 1st was in 2020 thru mnet: https://youtu.be/kZHjnzgK4RU?si=Mm1cRg_-OV8EyzBP 2nd was during their 10th anniv: https://youtu.be/54UE71NaXOU?si=FkjBpr1DBxiICc5b you can watch them on your own after watching 17 project & see how they cringe while watching their old selves. but tbh they usually don't talk much about the past coz they all know that they went through a LOT. just like what they said in Game Caterers, they need to be in a cart bar or drinking to be able to talk about the past.
