WHAT A SHOW.Things are only getting more interesting (and intense)...and we love it XD

I mean, we normally love anything pre-debut to begin with, but this is something else altogether, specifically because we're learning brand new things about them that significantly impacts our perception of SVT as a group.

We're going to let the vid speak for itself, but holy crap were we impressed, even as our current selves who know very well that SVT members are talented :D

Also, I mentioned this in the last episode as well, but do not worry about any on-screen Korean texts that are not captioned, as I've made sure to correct the OG CC, add new CCs, and SKIP the ones that are not important at all so I can dedicate my energy to the actually important things (if you couldn't tell already, the CCs that were there are horrendous for this one, probably cuz it was a predebut show that aired in 2015).

So keep that in mind, let us know if you have any questions, and most importantly,

ENJOY <3 :D

ps. After reacting to this ep, I looked up the OG vid for the performance SVT did in this episode XD seems like they played the recorded version on stage as well for the most part along with live singing, and they actually performed multiple tracks (I guess mostly covers) for the audiences that came to watch them, which only makes sense! :)

Guysss really you have to watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZ3PknIaAME&t=2s After these 7 episodes i guarantee you it will answer all your questions about why they had fans even before debut what their trainee days were like (they had to go through a lot I cried watching that video), about Hoshi doing the choreo and woozi with production and about 17tv and a lot of unsaid things. It is genuinely a very good compilation (without weird AI audio) about seventeen as a group pre-debut. It will give you a lot of context and answers about pre-debut seventeen.

Ive watched this sooo many times but it still hurts every time. They were babies lol but I do understand the feedback they got and i think they really took the comments to heart look at them now literally performance powerhouse of kpop 🥹 That’s why i really wanted you guys to react to this because a lot of people undermine svt’s success just because theyre in hybe now but if you look at their predebut stuff theyve been talented ever since considering they were still teenagers ☺️ they didnt have the money but what they had was hunger for success and talent 🩵 love this cant wait for the next ep one of my fave episodes ☺️

I watched the debut show in it's entirety the first time I learned it existed, and I raged and I cried and I threatened to go back in time and kill everyone involved who made my lovely sebongs cry, but there is a comfort in being in the future and knowing that even if they struggled back then, now they don't have to fear not debuting. They don't have to worry about people not showing up to their shows. Now they do tours with millions in attendance. Next episode is gonna be fun it's actually one of the only episodes I remember clearly. Some unit action, even though it's funny considering that the units were barely decided like 2 months before the filming of the show. Can't wait to see that again with HS.

Seventeen was first announced in 2012 with a debut planned for 2013 so yes, some fans had indeed been waiting for their debut for 3 years by the time it finally happened in 2015. Te first livestream for Seventeen TV was in Januray 2013. I do feel like this show was beneficial to them in the end and prepared them to face any unpredictable situation. However I also resent how much pressure it put Woozi under specifically. They were still preparing for their debut while filming this so Woozi already had a lot on his plate composing and writing for their debut album as well as the debut preparations that the other members were also doing. You add the time to film the reality show on top of that AND having to make new songs for the show AND direct all the members throught the recording for all the songs AND also practice dancing and vocals for all the different missions ? Man probably worked on 2h of sleep for the entire duration of the filming.

I really love this video too but I feel like it's a bit redundant to watch right after 17 project as it takes so many long clips from the show. It might be better to watch it a bit later, when the show isn't as fresh in their memory.

OMG, I wasn't expecting this! So form today, NOW actually prepare yourselves because I really did felt the same when watching, I wanted to throw hands at everyone hahah. I'm going to elaborate in some points in order for you to understand why the people in here are relevant to SVT's career since back then. - CEO Kim Yeon Soo (he used to be BSJ before being promoted as CEO last year): He is another father figure for the members, he has always been their biggest supporter and the fandom is fond of him, even more than HSS. He adores them and we recently saw him with the enlisted members at concerts. - Yoon Hyelim ssaem: SVT's performance director and someone you will see everywhere with them. She's another person who has stayed with them the longest and possibly our favorite person haha. She used to be a dancer for other artists. - SHINING DIAMOND being referenced as their "debut song" feels so weird now, because ADORE U is literally the perfect song amongst so many strong concepts groups were doing back then. - So afair, Rhymer was the one who suggested for them to go the self-producing route because he saw how good they were. I found a link for the article where he talks about it but it is not opening for me. (don't know if it'll work for you, but I'll try anyways: https://m.entertain.naver.com/home/article/241/0002963941) I'd like to think that 17Project made them grow a thicker skin when it comes to their work, passion, critiques and their career in general. They became self-aware while keeping their love for their craft intact; they learned to accept their shortcomings, work on them as individuals and as a team, and evolve as artists. Honestly, it's been 9 years for me since I watched this and it's coming to me how much they just endured. Like, I can't imagine training for years, having my debut being delayed for years, go through this whole reality show and letting others into my space, suffer or being disappointed when things just didn't work as I expected. Big respect for SVT and their work ethic, they deserve what they have and more.

I have linked some of the pictures we have of Hoshi and his choreography book when planning for SVT's choreography, there are so many more out there, this thread has some in it https://x.com/gemfotbot/status/1319536380968513542?s=20 SVT even created their own choreography as trainees Hoshi, Woozi, Vernon and Dino created choreography for songs as trainess for their weekly and monthly evaluations, you can see it on 17TV. The multiples delays in their debut also got them writing their own songs on the one laptop they all had between them, which was Wonwoo's, they have said that they would gather together to write songs and lyrics at their dorm as trainees after practice, and Woozi would also ask Bumzu to teach him how certain machines work so he could learn. When their debut kept being pushed since the company couldnt afford it, the CEO asked who writes among them, Woozi said he writes as a hobby, and he was told to make one song a week, and from those songs he wrote Shining Diamond, Adore u, Pretty u. They got to debut beucase they could write and choreograph their own work. Also Hiphop unit (Scoups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon) all write their own lyrics always. And Sungkwan and DK werent rivals, they said that company kept trying to make them rivals but they refused to fight when it came to the position, instead worked together as trainess since they have different strengths. I do love when Bumzu said that SVT arent the greedy kind, as in they wont ever want the sole spotlight on them, they work and move together as team.

konekochan

i want to say so many things but ahhh im just so emotional and proud of them <3 The finish line for this one is their debut, but of course that's only the starting line for a new era of struggles and hard work. Thanks for correcting and adding the CC's! its okay if you dont edit all of them, we appreciate it regardless <33 It's my second time watching this show and feels better to have others to watch it with 😭😭

shin tan

Thank you for the added ccs and everything elss you do. VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.

I haven't watched this one yet - I don't know anything really about SVT, I can name, maybe 1 song... But I DID watch the first episode... this thumbnail had me curious enough to go...hmm... this sounds interesting, so I went back and watched your post from last week. I cried watching that first episode... like... WHY are idol 'beginning' shows so traumatic!! So now I'm hooked and have this saved to watch in the morning.

That's true but I also feel like if they watch that video before these 7 episodes it would be like watching a movie after after reading the whole plot and book😂 But i dont know they can watch it now if they want and dont mind some 'spoilers' to the show i guess because the video gives so much unsaid info which either rarely talked about or is never discussed Like fore example the second compilation of this video series they tell about seventeen's donations and their involvement with the UNESCO since 2016 which like no matter how many variety content of anything of seventeen's official content you watch it is never talked about or mentioned which i understand that the members dont want to like boast about because they are just that sweet and humble. Anyway sorry for the rant 😂I am going to shut up now🤐 at the end of the day its their decision if they even want to watch the video series or not but if a lot of patreon members vote on it it might just happen anyway byeee~~~~

dav

That's true I am a carat since 2022 but I've never watched the show fully, only snippets on tiktok or yt I wanted to watch it with someone but my carats friends are not able to watch it with me so It is really exciting to watch it with you 🥹🥹🥹

I'm glad you're watching this and sharing your reactions and commentaries to us. Looks like we NEEDED this kind of perspective from actual Koreans who know how the Korean music industry work in reality, both in the past and currently.

Mi

I always wondered if they were singing live in these early stages since they use a different mic for talking. Since you said they were singing live on top, why do they use different mics for talking?

Handsome Sausages

Honestly it almost feels like it wasn't live at all for this stage, but that aside, using different mics are fairly normal for stages since the mix may be different and also because you'd want a hands free mic for performances at least in this kinda situation! So there could be multiple reasons related AND unrelated to the singing itself :)

Normal SJA

Fun fact: Hoshi as Seventeen Choreographer is a whole another lore. 1. Pre-debut He and sometimes Dino would choreograph the whole songs. 2. Back in 2015, Hoshi saw “Shinhwa’s - Sniper” stage and asked Hyerim Ssaem, Seventeen creative director (Pre-debut until now) who is the choreographer. That is when Hoshi and Seventeen was introduced to Choi Youngjoon (Now Famous Idol choreographer) 3. The Collaboration with Hoshi (and Performance Team) and Choi Youngjoon basically if we were to talk on percentage until 2020, Hoshi has big percent of idea and directions for all the stages. Its a constant between collaboration Hyerim-Hoshi-Youngjoon. After 2020, Hoshi oversees the creative direction along with Hyerim, having a now established Team Same (founded by Choi Youngjoon) to choreograph their discography. This includes awards shows special performances and concerts. 4. Eventho Hoshi said at first on how he felt a bit off as performance team leader when he no longer choreograph from 2020, but he is still leading the performance conversations for awards show and concerts up to this date and always vocal on trying new directions. 5. Like how JYP didnt do almost everything to his 3rd until 5th Gen, however the essence of JYP still maintain and have influences to the newer group, setting the colors that distinguished to JYP, Hoshi as the essence and foundation to Seventeen still are maintained until now. Happy to say that episode two for Seventeen Project is basically the foundation of what Seventeen are now. here you met the pillars of Seventeen where amazingly still working with them until now. Hyerim Ssaem - Seventeen Creative director. Ever so fierce director who not only QC-ing and maintaining the quality of Seventeen Performances, She also acts as teachers and always kept Seventeen level-headed and keeping to their roots by not treating them like superstars but always remind them their value. Kye Bumzu - Seventeen Producers and partner with Woozi. Woozi used to direct all of the songs recording up until 2021 where he have Prismfilter team direct the recording. Tho as producers he is still heavily involved with the music aspects and monitoring, back in the day, he really direct all of the 13 voices including himself. I salute him for that. Bumzu started with being their vocal coach and eventually involved with producing. That is why most of the pre-debut songs composed you would see Woozi collaborate with many composers and really found footing with Bumzu. Bumzu once said in an article that he always make sure each Seventeen members is superb at live singing because he didnt want to bear the shame of coaching a bad singers. Tho sounded rough but I am proud of Seventeen as live singers todays. All in all, both Bumzu and Hyerim said that their guidance and ideal of a team would never be true if Seventeen themselves couldnt make it work so it is really amazing how these synergy was able to be forge from pre-debut and still working to this day. Anyway. Looking forward to the next one! Love, a Carat. 🌕💍

Dawndream

i remember watching this when i first became a fan during mansae era... it really is a throwback watching 17project with you guys :)

ashonashonash

They also had a yt show named Andromeda. They also had a bit following because of that.

Hansol's Gums

Hoshi from this episode vs Hoshi now The character growth is amazing <3 He's able to command the stage w such a distinct presence now

PaperCrown

Only correction I would add is that while it's true that Seungkwan and DK never got into a rivalry as vocalists (which is why I love that they both carry the title of main vocalist), they admitted they felt a sense of rivalry as 'SVT's funniest member' when they were trainees. There's nothing more Seventeen than excelling at being an idol and also completely forgetting that you're an idol.

Mi

Thank you :)

Fay

Btw hyelim ssaem is still with them to this day! She basically raised them😭 seungkwan once almost killed her because he raised the car window on her neck by accident, she also makes an appearance on Nana tour🥹

hoshi is ferocious, some may be fooled when they look at the hoshi now, who's just a cute tiger hamzzi. during the early melona days, woozi had a hard time disciplining the kids, they just couldn't come together and work as one. hoshi's arrival and his support for woozi made a difference. he's acutely aware of every single detail and angle and how to deliver a good performance, i absolutely believe them when they all said he was the scariest trainer in the early days.

can

THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WATCHING SVT PROJECT SO THERE'S THAT! so glad that I also waited because it will be less heartbreaking to watch it with you guys than watching it alone. i wanna say to hoshi, they might say you didn't look like the center that day, but just know that one day in 2017, someone (me) was blown away by how you dominate the performance of CLAP.

Priyanka Banerjee

I am loving to see the perspective from you both, actually being Korean. I have seen other reactions too but I am able to pick up new nuances!
