Musicians react & analyze ♡ SEVENTEEN: Tiny Desk Concert

AJU NICE!!! Holy moly fkin’ guacamole! SEVENTEEN on TINY DESK!? God daaaaang!!! OMG… what a cozy, fun, and intimate environment. It really feels like a private concert right in our rooms. First of all, huge shout-out to Dino, Seungkwan, Joshua, Vernon, and Mingyu for absolutely nailing the songs on behalf of all 13 members. We’re extremely sad that DK couldn’t make it, but these five incredible dudes killed the stage, and they even learned his parts so quickly. Seriously… nothing more to say. You’ll see us screaming, shouting, and dancing the whole time. Grab a drink, grab some snacks, sit back, and let’s have fun together, everyone!!! Also! OH MY GODDDDD LETSGOOOOOW

tim

it's 12: a.m and i'm so sleepy but no wayyyy! how can i sleep before watching this!!

I LOOOVE Seungkwan's adlibs in HOT, my favorite track was World because I think it works perfectly in that setting and for me the MVP was Dino!! All of them did great but I was amazed by his vocals

I was so proud and mesmerized the entire time (even as Mingyu kept cracking me up 😭😭 he’s sooo… idek how to explain it? Why was bro dressed as a cowboy? Why is he wearing shades indoors?? Is there even a good explanation???). Look how far they’ve all come as singers! As a Carat since 2015, I couldn’t be happier seeing them gain more fans and perform at unexpected places. And oh my Dino, you *are* the future of kpop frr 🥹

Sofia98~

MVP was Dino hands down, I was so impressed. They all were great, Seungkwan is amazing and took a lot of lines covering for DK, but I already know Seungkwan is impressive, like he is THE Boo Seungkwan But Dino even as a Carat I was so surprised and wow I was very proud of him. They all killed it🔥

As kpop idols who debuted without in-ear monitor, they are actually good at singing without it. Seventeen tho, have some kind of nervousness to new audience especially western as they were told that they arent doing well in western market. I know crazy right. Seventeen feed off from the audience. There is a famous saying in caratland by Hoshi “The length of the encore for the concert depends on your willingness to jump, cheers and loud singalong” and there were concert stops that have short encore due not so hype crowd lol. There is obviously so much of this types performance that I would like to suggest. Lollapalooza and lots of festivals. Especially Weverse Con 2024. But maybe the recent one from Jamsu Bridge Live Happy Burstday Showcase 2025 is great too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDxDuSkuSR8 Anyway. Looking forward to the next one! Love, a Carat. 🌕💍

First, where the other members were: they had just finished their US leg of the tour, and Jun had to go to China right after, and Scoups had work in Korea. The8 went to stay in Hawaii for a small vacation (deserved), and DK was sick. Jeonghan, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, are obviously in the military right now. Second, my MVP for this has to be Mingyu. Both the NPC vibe he had and also the fact that the further back you go in SVT music, his dry vocals at the start weren't actually that strong in comparison to even other hiphop unit members. In concerts it was almost like the original song key was too low for him to sing without the touch ups of the post production, but he really made his way and developed as a singer to the point he sounds really good with dry vocals and stands out whenever he sings. My other MVP is Dino when he replaced DK's line in the final pre-chorus of Aju Nice and still hit that note. Now, for other stuffs like this: obviously, Tipsy Live Dingo is the most similar. BUT. And I really mean this BUT, I don't think you should check it out yet. Not just because they sing songs you haven't checked out yet (although that's also part of the reason) but the bigger reason is that that specific video is a very emotional video for the members. It has a sort of "looking back on the past 8 years" vibe to it that is translated through them singing songs from the different albums over the years like they're flipping through a picture album, and I think it'll be a better experience reacting to it for you guys once you get closer to that era in the marathon, or Going Seventeen and other shows like that. I think the best way to put it is that Tipsy Live is a catharsis sort of video, and understanding it better before watching it helps watching it. Other than that, I loved seeing SVT on Tiny Desk. It felt like they took a big step globally through it.

I accidentally deleted my early comment while attempting to edit it. Tiny Desk took place in DC on Monday after their DC concert. S.Coups and Jun flew back to Seoul after the DC concert because of ther obligations. Jun left immediately to China within less than a day of returning. Minghao went to Hawaii for personal reason. S.O.S. (Prod. Marshmello) - is a track from their 11th mini album, Seventeenth Heaven. Q&A - a single (released Dec 2015) Seventeen & Ailee _World - released in July 2022 from their 4th album. Sector 17. There is another version of this that was released Aug 2022 featuring Anne-Marie I loved Super, Rock with You, and Hot. But all the songs they sang is wonderfully done. I really wish they would release a full album with their raw voices and acoustic music only. I think Seventeen do not get enough recognition for their vocals. Mingyu's vocal is quite a surprise because you only see him as a rapper. Even with CxM's Hyped Vibes, Mingyu's voice isn't as raw as it is displayed here. My MVP is Dino and Mingyu. Dino is the "future of Kpop" like Hoshi says. His voice is just amazing. Seungkwan, Joshua and Vernon, I totally love. Seungkwan and even Dino did well in convering for DK. No doubt that DK was sorely missed, but I have to shot out to all 5 of them for doing so well covering for the other members. Seungkwan's adlibs are awesome. Mingyu is ....just no words to describe him. By the way, the cowboy hat, sunglasses and the back long sleeves (not the same one) is what he wore on stage during his solo performance of Shake It Off. He had black jean and black cowboy boots. It was a tight fit and he looked amazaing. Him and S.Coups had the couwboy hats custom tailored. It is embossed with their name on one side and the other side has Seventeen. S.Coups' hat is a tan color. S.Coups told the audience this information during their ment section on day 2 of their concert in Austin

I'm so curious how this would've worked with DK bc they're soo short on physical space already lol, would've been extra cozy I guess. I also wonder about the division of parts in general, understandably Seungkwan was covering a lot of the vocals but I feel like Mingyu could've easily covered some of what Vernon did maybe? Either way it was a great performance and such a different vibe from them! Mingyu and Seungkwan are both my MVP, Seungkwan for vocals and Mingyu just for his attitude/stage presence. I don't really think there's anything too similar as far as the raw/live vibe of this performance. Tipsy live is somewhat close, you already know that format from Ateez so I'm sure you get how they differ. It has a couple songs you've already covered, as well as a couple you've heard either in this video or from their killing voice, and one you haven't heard at all (Circles) which is quite an emotional song for them and does make the tone of the Tipsy live more serious for a bit. I don't know how much more context you'd really get from just the song marathon/ Going Seventeen vs. having someone explain what was going on leading up to that period of time to make it such an emotional performance. Whether you choose to wait to watch the Tipsy Live chronologically, or are ok with watching it sooner I would recommend listening to Circles first.

Such a sweet surprise, thank you so much! 😇 I was actually holding off on watching it, just in case you reacted to it, because I really wanted to experience it with you (I’ve been a fan of NPR Tiny Desk Concerts for years, so it means a lot). I did not expect you to get to it so soon! And considering that they’d probably perform songs that you haven’t checked out yet, that makes it even crazier. So proud of our Sebongs! ✨ Beyond how amazing the performance is and how talented they all are, their teamwork and chemistry, which have always been the soul and the very heart of the group, really shine through here. Each of them delivered something truly special, and even with just a few members, they still managed to make the whole Seventeen stand out. To me, they were all incredible ❤️

konekochan

what a surprise!!! wasn't expecting this at all since you havent heard most of the songs they did here. But it's cool you get to have a taste of them and in a different arrangement too 🩷 I'm so proud of them, they covered the other members parts so well. Especially Seungkwan with DK's parts 🥹 p.s. you should totally check out Q&A, it's such an old song so im surprised it got brought up. It's by Woozi, Vernon, Coups with Ailee

tim

Yes…I’ve suggested Q&A before, the song is fun with cute MV

Seungkwan is the new host of his own show, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo. His first guest is SKZ’s Lee Know. Not sure which category you’ll put this under, SVT or SKZ lol. Here’s the link: https://youtu.be/4Xv7mPV10jA?si=2UT1yVzYQ8iaP3rQ Also, here is Seungkwan and DK doing a whiskey live on Dingo. They sing Candy together and it’s divine. It would be cool if their unit concept is cocktail lounge singer because it suits their voices so well, but as long as it’s these two singing, the concept is just icing on an already delicious cake. Ah man! I couldn't wait for you guys to see this! Yes, this TIny Desk was recorded on Washington DC. Also SVT is the 1st Kpop group to do so! Army's went ape shit over hearing about this as they mistakenly interpreted that as the first Kpop group to appear on a Tiny Desk. But it's the one we saw with no engineering or editing or sound equipments. They were so great! Boo covered both DK and Woozi parts! Hot damn! That's a feat! They all did so well! Im so proud to be a Carat-Sausage fanatic! 🩵🩷🩵🩷🩵🩷🩵🩷

I thought BooSeok will sing live for 17 mins (i didn't know the format, saw Dingo and just thought they will be singing lol) I was sooo ready to bless my ears lol but still, we got Candy

tim

Agreeee Jamsu Bridge & Lollapalooza

캐럿입니다 💎

This just proves it again Like no disrespect to the amazing artists playing the instruments but still I say this Seventeen doesn't need music, music needs Seventeen!!

can

wowww i don't know why, but they sound even better the second listen around? amazed throughout the concert and god, they really did a really good job with how hard of an environment it was to sing there! so good! kudos to seungkwan and dino especially. that's our power maknaes there <3

My MVP is Dino, our maknae has improved vocally sooo much through the years. I feel so proud as a fan seeing how much his hard work is paying off. I really have Icarus on repeat on any given day I swear. I know he has musical preferences and ones that highlight his dance prowess but vocally, I mean vocally, I love how Icarus really highlights his voice. Icarus is a soundtrack for a Netflix kdrama that has just Dino, the title of the drama is Castaway Diva.

Please watch them prepare behind the scenes for this Tiny Desk too, it has DK in it as he was part of it until the last minute! it shows even small details like the mic details you mentioned etc https://youtu.be/99DMI3qRYOg?si=eL79l5DVb8Xig32b I lovd how giddy Vernon was to be here, he looks so excited. Their band has been with them since the begininng, same as their background dancers etc, SVT's staff, crew, band, dancers have all worked with them for a long time which is always so cool

HISA

IN My Room RollingSTONE https://youtu.be/qFcsPXQWN6U?si=edTWOK_z4ZC2wzw8

Anyone else having trouble viewing the video? :/ I've been waiting for them to react to this for so long but it looks like NPR took it down due to copyright :(( I wish I could see this video one way or another
