CLAP YO HANDS CLAP CLAP YO HANDS

I'm sure we've had this experience before, but it probably applies to "Clap" more so than anything else in the past. Every time we watched a new video for "Clap", our perception of the track changed for the better. In fact, I'd go as far as to say our perception got closer to objective reality—aka, the actual intention.

In most cases, more videos = more information, not change in perception. You'll see what we mean XD

What we're trying to say is, we're glad we checked out 3 videos, and we feel like we should check out more :D I mean, that was kinda the plan from the start, but even more so after reacting to these three vids.

So let us know if you think we should do a part 2 of "Clap" with more concert clips, etc., but if not, we're more than happy to move on as well :)

For now, ENJOY <3

there are so many great tracks in this album that i would prefer if you guys moved on and then revisited some extra vids at the end of Teen, Age

lena

The beginning of the ‘Clap’ choreography connects to the ending of the ‘without you’ choreography.

Clap is sooo soo good, I think it's a timeless track as well, and they regularly perform it on concerts and festivals too. This is totally SCoups' and Hoshi's song for me. Especially Hoshi, who turns into a literal TIGER when he's in center. About the MV: Yeah, I agree it's quite different from prev SVT title track MV's. I think in this era, they were capitalizing on being 'self-producing' idols hence there was a theme of video production/video editing. For this whole album too, I think that's why there's a lot of Mixteen subunits that can showcase their versatility Fun fact! Vernon usually freestyles the move at 15:17 which members have to follow along to 😂 If you notice, the move he does in the dance practice and in the Arena Tour are different. There's a compilation of his Clap freestyles that I'd love to share next livestream. About the Arena Tour performance - I'd give anything to be part of that audience omg my whole being turns into goosebumps all the time 😫 And lastly: thank you for talking about your experience on this SVT journey so far. I think that's why it's also fun for us to watch you both in these new discoveries; SVT has surprised you and *will* continue to surprise you with their music. I appreciate that you were open to diving deeper into their discography (and I'm soo curious what will dethrone Drift Away as D'some's top 1 in the future 🤭🤭) I dont mind either a Clap part 2 or doing Bring It next! Dropping links for both: - Clap Ode to You (not the best quality i know but superrr hype as well) - https://youtu.be/1xXKIOmEYEE - Bring It Lyrics Video - https://youtu.be/Y-xiKko4uFo Note: Seventeenlyrics has a pinned comment on this for CC corrections + extra info! - Bring It Ideal Cut - https://youtu.be/smbWX-WYaQ8 -Bring It Kcon LA - https://youtu.be/NX1UDydj6HM

you mentioned that watching the choreo changes the music, and I totally agree! it reminded me of something hoshi said before (I think in an interview) that svt's performances and stage are a core part of their music, not just an add-on. for them as idols, the music and performance really go hand in hand, and I love that we as the audience can actually see that. I think that's why carats always say choreo videos are a must when people dive into svt's music 😆

Danielle Johnson

they should do the DWC/Without you/Clap video so they can see the connection

Quwarichi

I'm REALLY torn between telling you to move ahead to the next tracks VS doing part 2 of CLAP. This is Sophie's Choice for me. So I'll leave the decision to other sausages and send links to Bring It just in case you decide to react to it next. Now for the actual track. Clap is ICONIC. Beyond ICONIC. If you played any carat the first few notes on an electric guitar you'll activate a sleeper agent inside of them that already knows the chord progression that's about to follow by heart. Seventeen are really good with strong recognizable instrumentals, and I think you'll even notice it more later down the line when you react to concerts and the like. Clap is also 100% Scoups' era and he knows it. He even said it in an interview! The killing part was made for him, and the SEVENTEEN RIGHT HERE is just meant to be in his voice. One reason I really really looked forward to you guys checking out this track is because of the Scoups-Vernon rap verses. You kinda commented on them but also not really, which I understand because there weren't lyrics to check out like there are in other B-side tracks or later MVs with subtitles. So I've been waiting so I can finally ask, what does Vernon's rap mean? I know that Scoups says something like "cast a nonsense spell" and then Vernon 'casts' one with his verse going "김수한무 거북이와 두루미 삼천갑자 동방삭", but from what I understand it's actually references to things? If you know and can explain, I'd really appreciate it because I love that verse so much and want to understand it more! NOW, assuming that if you do part 2 clap videos there are already a bunch of other links to choose from from last week's video, I WILL PROVIDE SOME LINKS FOR BRING IT: Lyrics video: https://youtu.be/Y-xiKko4uFo?si=xWHfc4USH5NN4qbT IDEAL CUT performance: https://youtu.be/smbWX-WYaQ8?si=5CLWpFNFMNJ0RNMb MAMA Hong Kong performance: https://youtu.be/zxyCrn8LqlE?si=ssHpgCdEOHAhgeEU 2021 Online Concert In-Complete: https://youtu.be/ARFPX86C_l8?si=fBZMf0d8dRLrFL2G

Clap is really good! The MV also feels unique; it's like they are editing/producing a video in the MV. The choreo is also so cool! BUT the performance!! WOW! It gives you chill. I have been lucky to see Clap live, and it was WOW each time! Especially the woah-ho-woah-ho-ho start part! CHILLS! P.S. One fun fact: towards the end, Vernon's "저기 저기 이리 오지 우리끼리 신이 나지"; during that performance, Vernon dances first, and then the members dance together. So Vernon changes the choreo every time, and the members follow whatever Vernon did solo! Hahaha! We have so many variations. Even here, if you see the performance video and the choreo, he did it differently in both, and the members followed! (Tho once Vernon did a tumble-like thingy on stage, and no one followed it, except DK lol)

Mikazoo

you should watch the intro where woozi and mingyu played the guitar (different performances)

I loved hearing your honest take on a group that you maybe only knew from a distance or had a specific image of. Thank you for being so frank about it! It's amazing how much our perspective changes once we look past the surface. My own journey to becoming a fan took some time too, and it's been so rewarding. It really shows the power of music – especially with Seventeen, who never stop surprising us with their passion and dedication to their craft. Their ability to be both one and many is their true strength: this perfect mix of singularity and diversity is the core of their identity. It's what allows them to keep their distinctive colors while delivering such rich and varied music and performances. There are still so many hidden gems waiting for you, so get ready to be surprised, because the rest of SVT's discography is just as unpredictable and brilliant! 😉

ddaddu

Correct me if im wrong carats but I would say up until they released "HOT" this song was for a very long time, their intro track at concerts

ema - simplywoozis

To understand Clap MV, you would have to go back al the way to Al1 because 'Teen, Age' is part of their 2017 Seventeen Project; like, is a whole concept arc. But you'll notice some references after reacting to the unit tracks, however, that's for another day. I'm honestly surprised you find that the dance break feels off from the track, because for me it feels just like something SVT would do, like this is a regular tuesday in their discography. I know you'll lose your mind completely when the remix version reaches you🫣. However, I personally think you should keep reacting to the album and do a kinda bonus one for the rest of Clap performances. Now, 'Bring It' is the most iconic thing of HOWOO before '96ers', I remember how crazy we went when the tracklist came out. It goes so hard, I can't even put into words how much I love this song. This is also the one song that has the dance that "Jihoon-ah" team did in 'Let's Go SEVENTEEN', you'll know when it you see it haha. 1. Lyrics: https://youtu.be/Y-xiKko4uFo?si=mh69Yt7p1rd_aiAb 2. In the last chorus for Vernons part he changes up the move for every perfromance and the other members has to copy him

CLAP is definitely one of their best concert hype songs. Like for real, it is an experience! Wish you'll have a chance to finally see them perform. I'm super excited for the next track BRING IT though... so I'm gonna be biased and say you can move on. Well, HoWoo are my ult biases afterall😅 If you do, please do not miss their "Ideal Cut" stage. Someone already gave a link for that. And as for your final question, I personally am very grateful you go for a SVT deep dive. I love every bit of your reactions and thoughts on their music and shows and on them in general. I mentioned it before but I really appreciate your insights as musically inclined people and also being Koreans yourselves who could make us understand their songs, jokes, messages and little nuances. Thank you, really. And I'm elated for you continuing this journey~

Brianna E

Clap!! Such an iconic song for Seventeen, I can't not sing and bop along whenever I hear it. Not a huge fan of the MV, for me it really shines live as you discovered with the last video! Also, for me this is 100% Coups' song. Like, if I just listened to it I wouldn't think "ah, what a sexy song" but Coups (+Wonwoo, and probably others but those two off the top of my head for sure) made this performance so unexpectedly attractive and I love them for it. Then pair that with the group finger heart midway through?? Performance geniuses. I feel like their commitment to performance/entertainment/concepts overall is such a big part of their identity as a group, and one of the many reasons they're one of my favourite groups. I've seen/heard this comment before but to me they really do feel like the theatre kids of kpop. I'm ok with moving on to Bring It for now, and potentially revisiting Clap at the end of the album if there's other performances that are recommended!

Cipher

fun fact about the mv: they actually re enacted some of the scenes from their previous mvs. you mentioned change up & it's actually in the mv as well. there's actually a video of them reacting to the mv & them pointing out what i mentioned. here's the subbed link if you want to check it out: https://youtu.be/MTdSMhGnByY?si=t_FAa_tsznJ4R8F0 *also i think they've mentioned at one point that clap is scoups' song 😁 *thank you for sharing your thoughts about your svt journey. it's understandable coz that's what always happens to 1st timers checking seventeen music. one thing i will always remember is woozi saying they do not follow the current trend but rather focus on what they really want to impart to their fans. first they choose the genre then go from there but he also emphasized that the members' feelings & thoughts are also important so he takes a note of those when writing/composing

Erika

Thank you for the discussion at the end of the video. Two days ago was my HS subscription anniversary and I'll be honest, I joined BECAUSE you didn't seem on board yet at the time haha. Apart from the great insights on music you give, I much prefer watching someone that seems curious, still uncertain but respectful, rather than fake reactions. At least I know you're giving honest opinions. So, thank you! It also makes it more fun to watch you being charmed or excited about songs that catch you off guard. As for what to watch next, I don't mind either way, but I think I like the idea from some other comments of going back once the album is done. There are so many links for many of these songs and it might be nice to do a retrospective once you've listened to all of them once.

hi

Perfect timing for the next track! You'll see why Hoshi's team name from the previous going seventeen episode was "지훈아"

Magic Shop in SVT space

the intro of the dance practice is on theme with the music video where they fully produce everything

Magic Shop in SVT space

that hoshi pause becomes more and more intense the more he performs clap

Magic Shop in SVT space

vernon does a different choreo every time at the ending of clap and they follow him

Magic Shop in SVT space

carats can correct me, but back in clap era when I wasn't a carat yet, I heard that they tried to make the choreo easy for carats to follow along and learn it..... how did they think that would work?

EileenP

Its kinda thing you guys never done it and also I don't usually bring it on...but when it comes to 'Clap'...there is THE Famous 직캠 version of Scoups from mnet...and it might be suuuuper fun if we can watch together (wink)(wink)

Fay

clap is the biggest hype song!! they’ve used it multiple times as a concert opener and the whole atmosphere is insane😵‍💫

Fay

also vernon usually does a different freestyle for the last part of the song every time!! since he usually does a dance and they all follow right after, he’ll pick a dance move just before the con and they all have to watch on the spot and follow along. i remember during their follow tour he had a different one every day and it was usually from an inside joke the day before or a gose episode😂

shin tan

The only things missing from these vids are DKs and all of their additional adlibs...

raye

It would be cool if guys do Clap 2 because Clap is title track for its performance and concerts. As it is their iconic song from those days. I think how you guys felt about svt will resonate with most people if they don't much about svt, their album b-side tracks and haven't seen their performances or concerts.

Jade V

The concept for Clap's music video (and thus the dance practice) is that Seventeen are part of a video-production called Specialized Video Technology (S.V.T) that is in charge of making all of Seventeen's videos. The Clap MV includes lots of references to other MVs from this era (miniature sets and objects used for Change Up, Trauma and Pinwheel MVs). The concept is kinda continued in the following repackaged album which is called Director's Cut. And yes, Clap really shines in live performances, it's been a regular in most of their live sets because it really gets the crowd going. The choreo also uses sign language btw ! Just when they say "이 노래 끝까지 쳐 박수" in the chorus, they do a move where they quickly rotate their hands up in the air before actually clapping. Rotating your hands this way is the equivalent to clapping/applause in most sign languages. This shows that they really wanted to make this song as universal as possible and make everyone join in the fun. It's also the second time they included sign language in their choreo after Pretty U !

Jade V

Going into Bring It next would be perfect timing after your reaction to Let's Go ! Seventeen lol. I think it's fine to circle back to a few songs at the end of the album, the way we did for Going Seventeen. Someon ealready linked the lyrics video for Bring It in the comments. In terms of live stages, my fave is the Ideal Cut concert (https://youtu.be/smbWX-WYaQ8). The MAMA stage is also really cool but way too short !

sabaninotte

I feel sorta similar to you guys. I would have never thought I'd like SVT coming from mostly listening to heavy rock/metal music. The fresh cute concept they had especially around their debut was so not my style lol. I thought Adore U and Mansae were catchy, but forgot about them mostly until just after Thanks came out. I heard Clap and it was so down my alley that I was immediately drawn in and decided to check out everything else (and fell in love). I also definitely have songs I didn't care for at first but fell in love with later. Sometimes it's just timing, mood, the right context. But I really appreciate the honest reactions as well as the music breakdowns and extra context for lyrics/jokes/etc in Korean. I'm so excited to see you guys gets to all the music in their discography. 지금부터 Scoups is absolutely iconic in the fandom. I vote for moving onto Bring It and then circling back later. There are also Inside Seventeen videos showing them recording songs and Woozi directing them that I think would be really cool to check out. Either the individual episodes or the compilation on YT once you do all the songs in each part.

gyuzii

seventeen concerts are sooo fun as someone who’s been to multiple of their shows 😭 i never get tired of it even going multiple days of the same tour. because it’s truly different everytime even if you go to multiple days of the same stop because the way they interact with fans + their ments and adlibs will always be different. it’s like watching going seventeen in real life LOL it’s even fun when you’re not there either. i’ve even watched their recorded concerts when they were in theaters and it was still just as amazing 😭

tim

This link is a must!!

grapefruit

i also think we can just proceed with bring it

Sarah_SVT

I’m soooo excited for bring it! But there’s so many clap so I’d do part 2 If you need bring it live from Howoo warning concert I have it ☺️ Ideal cut is a must. And the UNIT SWITCH

Dhwani Trivedi

A Seventeen concert is a must for everyone- carat or not. HEAR ME OUT- took my non kpop following sister to SVT New Tour in DC, last show of US Tour. Instantly fell in love head over heels with the group, the members, the fandom. She knew nothing about the songs, the choreo, the chants. I just showed her the Killing Voice performance and we shared a couple of reels of the tour- prior to the show. She was able to sing Aju Nice by the 3rd time of never ending concert version Aju Nice. TW: The concerts are literally LIVE GOING SEVENTEEN with sexy choreo and insane power vocals. 😂 The mischievous clowns never stop! Having said that, I can't wait for HanC to see all the versions of Vernon changing choreo to Clap choreo, DK time, the concert verrsions of DK Time, Hoshi time and so much more with the upcoming albums and songs in the lineup now.

Cielo Eunice

My only comment is that I want these reaction videos daily. Lol

can

that's Queen Clap for you! it still throws me off that Han-C is the one who's less fond of skinship out of the two of you lol

HISA

It’s always funny and fun (though I only understand about 20% of the English). I first heard this song in a concert clip, and that’s when I fell in love with the guitar. I never ever thought I’d end up liking K-pop idols—my favourites started with *STING*… I suppose that gives my age away. In Japan, it’s *WONK*, so I might be more into jazz. But SEVENTEEN now make up most of my algorithm, and that’s what makes this here. so much fun 🎸 いつも笑えて楽しい(英語は20%しか理解していません) 初めてこの曲をきいたのがCONCERTクリップだったのでGuitarに惚れました 私はまさかK-POPアイドルを好きになるとは 全く思っていなくてお気に入りは【STING】から始まり……年齢がバレますね 日本では【WONK】なのでJAZZよりかもしれません でもSEVENTEENが私のAlgorithmの殆んどをしめてしまい 此処が楽しいです🎸💃🎶💎

SZU-CHI CHEN

It's so sad that Seventeen haven't been to my country since 2018. I really want to go to Seventeen concert too.😭😭

Handsome Sausages

OKAY so we MIGHT get into this later if we do part 2, but in case we DON'T, I'll briefly explain the lyrics part you're curious about :D do note that I also learned this while searching for the lyrics and it's super interesting! So while each word actually does have its own meaning, the whole phrase actually comes from an even longer phrase that is used in classic comedy bit (originates from Japan) that talks about this fictional person with the "longest name ever". More or less directly translated from the Japanese version, 김수한무 = Kim (cuz everyone's Kim in Korea) soohanmoo (meaning "infinite lifespan"), 거북이와 두루미 = Turtle and Crane (comes from 십장생, the ten symbols of longevity; turtle and crane are two of the ten), and 삼천갑자 동방삭 = Dongfan Shuo (character from China) who lived for three thousand cycles of sixty years. As you can tell, each part refers to longevity and immortality, cuz it's the longest name we're talking about anyways. :) Vernon took those early part and used it as a part of his verse!

Handsome Sausages

Curiosity is our biggest thing as music lovers :D so really happy to hear that. It's been REALLY fun so far and we're even more excited knowing there are so much more left compared to how much we've done :):) this is going to be awesome

Handsome Sausages

Looks can be deceiving. But then again, Han-C can be so fake like that. He knows he loves it. He's just shy that little baby.

T_큐티_섹시_러블리

My sister didn't know Seventeen at all but I brought her to FOUR different SVT concerts in Singapore, Bangkok and Japan. (I paid for all of it lol.) She isn't a CARAT but she knows all their names, how to sing Aju Nice during encores and can point out the members to me when she sees them in ads. Indeed, a SVT experience is top tier!

Cipher

this popped up in my x timeline then i remembered you guys talking about their choreography/dance & them being clowns so i came back to share it. not sure if you'll be reading it but sharing it nonetheless. https://x.com/i/status/1926235937505222811

T. A

Please more Clap reactions for sure!!!! Also even non-Carats will walk out as a fan after Seventeen concerts, its like when non-kpop audience in Glasto festival fell in love with Seventeen, the tickets were sold a year in advance (Glasto dont announce their acts when they sell the tickets), and apart from like one or two carats, it was all british crowd of all ages and genders, that didnt know anything about kpop, since Glasto festival has never had any kpop act before, it was fascinating to see them fall in love in real time with Seventeen's music and them as performers

Thunder Monkey

Seventeen has timeless music. No fad chasing. Just pure human made artistry. Just like Beethoven and Motzart. Its timeless. If it's not your style of music thats ok. But just know that when u get tired of the latest sound everyone is sounding the same, you will always return to SVT music for your healing. Their music will always be there for you. It's good for your Mitochondria.

Hansol's Gums

YES It's such a cool and cute part of their performances I look forward to that part every time HAHAHA

Hansol's Gums

OMG I went into this very excited that you were finally watching the iconic japan arena clap video so when HanC said he wanted a circular stage I was like 👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀👀 side eyeing so hard AHAHAHA I'm so happy to be here <33 I also subbed because I felt that your comments were true to the core even though I joined when you were just starting on SVT content ++++ I found your music analysis interesting because wow as a gurlie in stem i find it so fun that there are whole other fields out there including music!! I also get so entranced in music/songs I like that I feel the need to deep dive and somehow I stumbled upon your channel in a twist of fate <33 hehe It's also a + that we get lyrics/subs explanations/corrections from you guys too
