Ohhh this was a FUN one, and not for the reason you may think ;)

HOWOO's Bring It in the house.

We got a lot to talk about.

Not that it needs clarification, but just to reiterate, it's about how awesome the main line of "shoot me first and go" is, not about how the rest isn't good or anything. Kinda hard to explain but we sure you get it XD

Alright. I think it'll be way more fun to let the video roll and you see for yourself how we go about this dissecting this track :D

We do gotta ask two questions tho :)

Please share good links for Lilili Yabbay, the next track (honestly, fire title)

What did YOU think about Bring It the first time you heard it, and what did you think about the lyrics, the performance, etc.?!

Let us know! :D

And that should do!

ENJOY <3

I think that the Hoshi and Woozi combo, like you said, takes a LOT of inspiration from GD x Taeyang because they're both such big fans of Big Bang, so the music they make together is similar in the vibes? They can make all sorts of music as their unit (Pinocchio is a proof of that) but this sound, as well as 96ers and Echo (another track they did) makes you think that maybe that's the sound they like working on together, something powerful and performance heavy. In a way it makes sense because one of them is the music leader and the other is the performance leader. It was interesting to hear your thoughts not being immediately "I LOVE THIS" about this song. I wonder if this is a case of "a few more listens will fix it" or something that can only be reconciled if you go "that's just how the song goes for me". I personally loved the song immediately the moment I listened to it for the first time but I'm also predisposed to love everything Woozi and Hoshi do. I think the dialect line is FIRE and the lyrics are really cool. I think it came out around the time that Seventeen kept facing criticism and backlash for different things? Especially in 2017-2018, the hiphop unit had a few unreleased songs performances that were much more... not violent but definitely more aggressive in nature, all of them talking about the people who wished to see Seventeen sink but are now watching them succeed (MMO, What's The Problem, Sukyo) and I think that if a track like Bring It was written in 2017 post-Al1, where they got backlash globally for DWC being similar-sounding to the Chainsmokers song that came out around the same time, something along the lines of "protecting the members, shoot me if you wanna get past me" aggressive sound and lyrics makes more sense. NOW FOR LILILI YABBAY!!! One of THEE performance team tracks in my opinion!!! The fun thing about this album is that every unit got a music video for their track! yes the rolling stone should be done after we check out all unit tracks!

I do love BRING IT a lot from my first listen until now. It's difficult to not sound biased though because I first heard and saw it through the Ideal Cut perf and also HoWoo are my ult faves. D'Some, maybe another thing was you're lacking context on SVT and Carats' situation back then. Aside from them having financial difficulties, people in the industry apparently have been continuously belittling and discouraging them. It was like against all odds for them in their rookie years. We already refer to HoWoo as the 'Two Captains', so the song's overall concept of them being the group's and fandom's protectors was something expected (and was long anticipated). For me, as a Carat, the song was already firm and strong call that no one can touch SVT and us. And, aside from what you said that you're still not used seeing Woozi like that, it is true that the two of them are BIG Bigbang and GDxYB fans... Here's some bonus short clips of HoWoo being big VIPs😊 HoWoo doing Home Sweet Home challenge -- https://youtube.com/shorts/BY0jiWBj7Ao?si=SGmdOlHpxHdwpdow HoWoo having so much fun during GDxYBxDS perf in MAMA 2024 (yes i know most of the artists there were also hyped but you'll see that HoWoo were on a different level of ecstatic) -- https://youtube.com/shorts/hFICpL0lyow?si=Yg2FZV2zHot1B8Wj and https://youtube.com/shorts/_u4flRtDUYE?si=8kKRyON7GwPZG4cy

HoWoo, such an iconic unit!! Their identity is so solid and shines through in their performances, I love how many different sounds we're able to get from Seventeen between their group discography and all the units. Like, if you didn't know them would you believe that one of these members is also a part of BSS? Also, respect the love for buzz-cut Woozi but Super/God of Music era Woozi will forever be my favourite. Bring It is probably my least favourite HoWoo track, still solid and will probably never leave my SVT playlist but I kind of wish it went harder. I think it's more me just not loving the genre/style of the song in general, and the live performance definitely helps sell the mood they were going for but if I'm consuming music I'm generally listening to it, not watching it so that doesn't help.

Hoshi did perform like there's no tomorrow you can see the way his lips turned purple 😭 his lips tend to do that when he's very exhausted. They squeezed in the kcon la schedule in the middle of their fancon tour it was crazy.

konekochan

I LOVE Bring it, i wish it was a sound HoWoo can do again 😭😭 It's so hype and the synergy with Hoshi and Woozi are unmatched. I think it flows well right after Clap and before unit tracks, since they are the duo defenders of svt. The difference between the two performances is so interesting tho: in the 2018 one, the vibe is very energetic and strong, like they're still struggling to get to the top as newbies in the industry. But in the 2025 one, you can clearly see they are seasoned veterans. "Hoshi doesnt have tomorrow?" Oh man u should see him in their actual concert. That man is insanee OMG. Lilili Yabbay next. This is THE performance team track for me. If you say PFU, the first song that comes to mind is this one. Other comments have already mentioned this, but Im gona mention it again :D So in 2021, they released new performances of the unit tracks in the Rolling Stone In My Room video. So since everything is in one video, we recommend finishing the unit tracks first and then get to the Rolling Stone one (https://youtu.be/qFcsPXQWN6U) But for now! Here are dedicated links for just Lilili Yabbay: - MV - https://youtu.be/VKuvYk-FsPM - Ode To You performance - https://youtu.be/K4y8-S5IPP8 - Caratland Unit Switch (aka Vernon struggling for 3 whole mins LMAO) - https://youtu.be/L_NHXg4L5Yc

D'Some's reaction to this song was me on my first listen to Without You, I felt so disorientated I wasn't sure I liked it at first lol. As for HoWoo, their music style in general isn't what I gravitate towards and not something I would listen to separately (except for Pinocchio which is unfortunately way too short). But I really enjoy watching them perform as both of them are so charismatic. I think the Ideal Cut performance really shows the tension they were feeling back then with an underlying anger (? Not really the right emotion but I don't know how else to explain it), whereas the Kcon performance has a sort of relaxed confidence where they've already gone through their battles and don't need to prove themselves anymore.

i love the issue that you brought up because i thought the same too! "is it a good song if it require a performance for us to like it?" as someone who loves exploring music as a whole, i would say that though it's not my type, i kinda appreciate it. coz it's the kind that will lit up the performance and brings out the energy that makes you want to come to the concert. but i wouldn't call them good in and of itself, because people listen to music for the experience when they 'listen' to it, not 'watching'. so i've come to the conclusion that if good listening song makes one want to stan the group, performance centric song is what will make the stanning experience enjoyable. i hope they'll keep doing both types so we have the greatest from both ends 🤭

I think cuz as a carat for leaderline we have an existing lore so when Bring It came out it wasnt a surprised instead we have so much fun and chills on the 주장 선언 (Captains Declarations) In Caratland we have a famous lore since trainee years: 1. how the most senior Pledis Trainee at the time consist of Seungcheol, Jihoon and Soonyoung. 2. The famous one is called 2 Captain and General. 3. S.Coups “The General” always controlling the mood of the trainess which is really stricts and if things out of hands and went to him eventually, its most probably they are done for it. 4. 2 Captains, famous for being the 행동대장 (captain that models by doing things - I am not sure how to explain the phrase) Hoshi and Woozi is most fierce when handling 20-30 plus trainess. They are famously to clear the ground before going to S. Coups if matter out of hands. 5. Trainees days in pledis is as hardcore as military where seniority defeats age lines. Its tough I know, but the system established and embodied into Seventeen is so strong that S.Coups is called 총괄 리더 (Overall Leader) which is rare within the industries. 6. And regarding your questions “Is it a good song if its requires performances to justify it” it depends to the listeners and how vast your casual listening catalogue would be. Seventeen Music, as what I mention in one of your early reactions that it is written to fits your mood and weather, Which given their vast genre and sound presented in their discography may not suits to everyone especially you are not the song mood, nor having the lore known beforehand. And yes, as dubbed Concert-idols Seventeen always make songs to be performed therefore misunderstood b-sides are often explained through the performance. As Hoshi said, idols are always making 보는 음악 which inevitable to have with performance. 7. That is why for most carats, its fun to relate songs with known lore, inside jokes. but for new fan or casual listener, its sometimes hard to relate cuz the root is deeper to dive. 8. So no worries if some songs is not your mood or vibe. I have one too - Game Boi, fun song but not my exact mood, but when performed you bet gonna see me jumping along. Anyway. Looking forward to the next one! Love, a Sausage and a Carat. 🌕💍

After the 3 unit songs is the best time to do the Rolling Stones “In My Room”. It is a must listen.

carat sebongie

Keep in mind, they're this hype when they should have been conserving their energy coz seventeen were the last performers of mama 2024. I have their fanboy reels on repeat. As a fellow GD Big bang fan it was a surreal moment.

It's totally okay not to love every track! 🙂 I think there's real beauty in the fact that we all have different tastes and experience music differently. It's what makes these discussions so much more meaningful. Even more than its structure or the sound itself, the standout moment for me in "Bring It" was the weight of those words, 'Shoot me first and go', and the synergy between these two leaders. It's such a powerful statement coming from the two creative backbones of Seventeen. Having the main producer and the performance leader, who have helped build the group's identity from the ground up, standing side-by-side on the front lines to take the heat and shield the members and fans from remarks and criticism... There's something so significant about it, and it's just undeniably cool. Can't wait for the next step: "Lilili Yabbay"! It is the ultimate Performance Team track – and personally, my second favorite from PFU, right after my beloved "Highlight"! ☺️

My first thought after hearing that song was “wow that's so epic” It's like two leaders of svt comes to the front to protect their members.it was kinda crazy and hella attractive It was and still is one of my favorite songs in svt discography

Emma.

What I enjoy the most about Seventeen's music is that it is theirs - the fact that they are involved in my opinion means that these are their stories, told thier way. It might not be always perfect but it is authentic...

would love love love for you guys to watch the rolling stone video but watching it in full after the 3 unit tracks is probably the best unless you’re ok with watching it in parts

Jocelyn A

it’s always ok to not like a song!! imo there’s no group in the world that doesn’t have a few skips while i know bring it is loved in caratland it isn’t one of my favorite, and i do have a few other tracks that i won’t seek out🤷‍♀️ the next pfu song is one of my favorites though! can’t wait for you guys to hear it

EileenP

So many things to say about Bring it On but fainted on the ground already realizing Lililli Yabbay is the next…

gyuzii

i think this song for me is one of those where I don’t dislike it but it’s also not one I actively seek out to listen to and if it comes up on shuffle I might skip it if I’m not in the mood for it yk? There’s songs that I can listen to any time and some where I have to be in a specific mood for, and this is that. Buttt I will say this is one of those songs that I enjoy more when I’m watching the performance. And the lyrics are fun. And I imagine that it’s just wayyy better live as well, I think chanting the turn left and turn right with them would be fun, like we’re soldiers listening to our captains. Also I’ll always love a moment where woozi brings out his hometown dialect hahaaaa… (soo sexy LOL) but yeah of course no group is gonna have a discography that is 100% no skips for everyone out there. but that’s the good thing, they play around with genres and sounds so much that within svt’s discography, there’s something in it that you’re bound to like. anyways! This was funnn excited for the rest of the album 😆😆

Cipher

am surprised no one recommended the Bring It unit switch by DK & Jeonghan & them recording it 😆 and yes lilili yabbay is finally here! ofc mv video shouldn't be missed but hope you can check these out: behind scene that also acts as the choreo vid https://youtu.be/SFOENscJfPI?si=xXCMIhDZto4A_w5g the mnet special vid: https://youtu.be/s_aCbiXEdkI?si=DSxeSpDgvaNQ8sIP and ofc the unit switch by hiphop team: https://youtu.be/L_NHXg4L5Yc?si=p7DZ9Gd4d2aGzccI *also rolling stone vid should be checked after watching trauma & pinwheel coz it'll be just like another dingo experience 😏 *D-Some not liking the song &/or getting confused by it at first listen is normal esp if it's not really one that you listen to or one that's not up your musical alley. we all have different perspectives when it comes to music but what's important is that you get to fully listen to it & try giving it a chance. there's nothing wrong in being honest & that's what i appreciate from you guys. you'd rather be honest than fake it just for the views.

Dawndream

for future follow up reaction to bring it: unit switch (dk x jeonghan) https://youtu.be/JQ8AucU-I5E?si=4cFv6KTEJGngWFPT i think the others before me have already explained about why bring it was so aggressive, so i'll just say, bring it, in all honesty isn't my favourite howoo track. most days it's a skip for me too because it doesn't suit my mood. bring it very much is a performance song, but i think it was also quite a hit during that era because like you guys said, it was really quite good in that period of time. no problem at all with being honest about not liking a track! PLEASE be honest, i love hearing you guys' opinions on tracks! even i have some tracks i'm not a fan of, so i find it interesting to hear others' opinions on songs, especially music professionals like the two of you :) LILILI YABBAY IS NEXT IM SO EXCITED!! can't wait!

Erika

It's an interesting question, should a song be able to stand on its own? I think, ultimately, yes. And, as you said, depending on the genre many songs reach their full potential when performed. Seventeen has many of these because they really enjoy performing. They said a few times that they create songs with the performance in mind. But I don't think there is an intent of asking the listener to go the extra mile. I think it's more like a gift, "if you vibe with a song, then check the performance and you'll get the complete experience! If not, then don't worry, there is something for everyone here!" Now for Lilili Yabbay, there is also an Ode To You performance if you want (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cnbdcjr0zw8), but I don't know if you are skipping Ode To You because you're planning to watch the whole concert down the line.

hi i am natali

Unit switch of Bring it by dk and jeonghan is a muuuuust for sure heheheh

grapefruit

yes i love honest thoughts too! it allows a good discussion👌🏻

tim

At the end of this album, you have to watch their Rolling Stone performance and all the Caratland Unit Switch performances for this album (Change Up, Bring It, Lilily Yabbay, Flower, Hello, My I 🙊 -not this album but you have to), it’s better if you can also watch their GoSe/ InSe for the behind the scenes Rolling Stone : https://youtu.be/qFcsPXQWN6U?si=ne8uAs1rNdtM3MQ_ Caratland behind, including Unit Switch recording/ dance practice for Bring It, Change Up & My I : https://youtu.be/5kER2MckMpE?si=nKi7I6keLNxhJtbn (a must watch!!) Maybe other Carats can share the performance links

zoey ro

Yes!! Rolling stone performance for sure

Iris Lee

this was my favorite song for a long time back in the days. I just love how hype hoshi gets during the live stages. i don't really listen to the studio version of this song - i only listen/watch the live performances of this song, just because I think hoshi's hype screaming adds a lot

Priyanka Banerjee

Thank you. I did like the song upon first listen too but the performance made it even better. Additionally it also reminds me of Unit Switch which happened in caratland which is so cool too!

Roxanne__d

yeah I don't vibe with this song either but their KCON LA performance was sooo good! thank you for your input!

T. A

I love this song always because Hoshi is so ready for battle and i love it, and I totally see that this is Hot's father lol. HoWoo have been a duo/best friends since they have been trainees, they used to create choreography for the rest of the group since trainee days, you can find it all on SeventeenTV, and they would get evaluated together too. Musically they are actually much more like-minded, according to them they dont even need words to communicate, lol usually Hoshi comes up with a sound or like a choreo move and Woozi will make a song for him, and they end up writing the lyrics together for it. In Seventeen we have the General Leader Scoups, and then the two captains HoWoo supporting him.
