Removed Content #5 | Karmic and Dharmic energy (Patreon)
Content
In its early stages, the enigmatic energies of Crimson Prison were categorized into three forms: Equinox Energy, Solstice Energy, and Arcane Energy.
Arcane Energy has not been completely discarded.
In the final version, it is used for other purposes. This can be verified during the nighttime hangout event with Miwa.
Solstice and Equinox functioned in a similar way: both were energies that spread through the environment and could be used by the inmate.
When it came time to figure out what a “Frenzy” would be like, the core idea was fairly simple. By using Equinox Energy, the inmate would accumulate a certain percentage of Karmic energy, at the risk of their mentality becoming volatile. And by performing Solstice techniques, they would accumulate Dharmic energy, which directly counteracted the former. However, this had no real foundation. On the contrary, it caused more problems within the power system.
With Karmic energy accumulating every time a bit of Equinox was spent, it ultimately became counterproductive to learn how to use that energy at all. The balance tipped heavily in favor of Solstice as the far more viable option. It did not generate Karmic energy, Dharmic energy was empowering, there was no risk of falling into Frenzy… The solution that came to mind was simple.
If the risk of using Equinox was so high, then Equinox Techniques should be exponentially more powerful. But this created another problem.
If Equinox was so powerful that it could eliminate anyone with just a few techniques, then Arcane Energy —which is supposed to be the oldest and most devastating of them all— would become useless.
In the end, I went with the most basic solution. Removing Karmic and Dharmic energy from the equation in order to keep the power system balanced. Solstice Energy shifted from being an energy propagated through the environment to one generated from the inmate's core. This will be explained in the next version. In this way, both energies work together with the inmate, since the use of one or the other is intrinsic to the psyche, not to training.
