S&W M&P 15 22 Pistol

Comments

I went to a Project Appleseed shooting weekend and the ONLY .22 mentioned that they would NOT allow us to attend was this M&P 15 Pistol because of function failure. I used my 10/22, worked flawlessly except for one mag issue.

I built an AERO AR 15 pistol and got the CMMG .22 conversion and it runs excellent with the right ammo. So I get two firearms in one package. Love it. So I don't need to even bother with any .22 AR's.

Eat shit commies. I need one of those stickers

My wife has the rifle version and it’s been nothing but awesome. I almost got the pistol version 😱

I know .22s like this don’t need to be as robustly constructed as guns that fire larger caliber rounds, but I admit one thing that does turn me off about these types of firearms is their comparatively chintzy feel. They literally almost feel like toy guns to me.

I’ve eyed these several times. Other than the looks, I just don’t see it having any advantage over my 30 year old Ruger 10/22. My Ruger is really reliable with good ammo and pretty darn reliable with the cheap stuff. It’s super easy to take apart and service. Plus, you can easily get all sorts of aftermarket and stock replacement parts. Thanks for the review. I was hoping it would go good. It is a pretty cool looking little gun.

That clown music always makes me chuckle. The first video I remember hearing it in was a desert testing review Nutn and Doodle did waaay back on the UTAS UTS-15 shotgun. That thing failed so comically that the music fit the review perfectly!

Bummer, I was thinking of getting one for my kids. I have the full size version, and it’s been great after well over 15,000 rounds.

Thanks for the review, too bad it didn't work. I would have enjoyed seeing more of this thing run. Thanks for the extra 22 content recently. It is the caliber I see the most at my local club for all the obvious reasons

Mine has been very reliable… got it back in 2021. SBRed it following the brace thing. Bulk stuff, normal issues… one or two without good primer, weak not having the bolt lock back. Ran on par with my Marlin 60. CCI, mine is 100%. I use Subsonic 45 grain LHP, mainly due to running it suppressed (Rugged Oculus).

Watching that performance brought back troubling memories of my M&P 15-22 rifle. While it seemed like everyone else in the world was enjoying smooth operation with theirs, mine performed as badly as your pistol. I tried the aftermarket extractor fix and that didn't solve anything, so that rifle got buried in the back of my safe. Fast forward a couple of years to when I saw the ad for the Volquertsen bolt that claimed to be the absolute cure. So, I got it and it does everything they claim. My rifle has now been flawless. If,...excuse me, when I get the pistol upper, if it behaves like yours I'm throwing that bolt in with confidence.

Wow, that shot like garbage. My Ruger 10/22 Takedown (former TNP) and Kel-Tec SU-22 shoot reliably well and I love them. My friend has a S&W M&P 15 22 rifle that also shoots well. That's a bummer this pistol didn't work out as expected. I also wouldn't condemn the brand. Overall S&W quality has been great. I have several that I've owned for years.

I have the rifle version for the kids to shoot (although I will take it out myself just for the funsies... Don't tell 'em!). It's my only 22lr so my experience is minimal, but with good ammo, it'll run pretty darned well. With the cheap stuff it gets gummed up pretty fast, but that's the price to pay. I do have to clean it after every range trip though, which I do not necessarily have to do with my other rifles.

Ran my rifle length 15-22 Wolf in Sheep's clothing in an all-day rifle course with 0 issues in 300+ rounds of Federal Automatch, laughing and blasting away while the dudes around me experienced the full gamut of malfunctions with their expensive centerfires. That experience alone made that gun a "never sell" for me.

steve garrett

one of the problems with a gun like that is you're going to be shooting short range targets and varmints. the sight height is like 3" that is not idea for shooting small pinpoint targets at short range.

David Elkins

Great training aid but I’d never trust my life to any gun that’s not nearly 100% reliable.

Mark Horan

I have dedicated Cmmg conversion 22lr. AR 15. When I went from 16 inch barrel to 5 inch barrel on same platform I had to add weights to conversion to get it to cycle on 5 inch barrel.

Bernal

I have the 16” 15-22 with a Holosun. It’s one of favorites 👍, plenty of desert use over here. Mine isn’t a CCI snob, eats anything that isn’t subsonic.

Mattimus

Not shooting much .223 5.56 right now is right. Took forever to hit that 2K per-rifle nutn-recommendation. Not sure I wanna piss it all away in a drought…. Time to drill with 9mm pistol.

Sheepdog

Wouldn't it be awesome if we were to arrange a 'flash patriot middle finger' to the commies, with millions of us ordering "EAT SHIT COMMIE" bumper stickers like Nutn's, and all pasting them on the back of our vehicles the night of July 3rd for a huge mass showing on Independence Day?

Garrett Dismukes

How you haven’t reviewed a Tippmann m4 22 still blows my mind. Your a 22lr guy. You will love the tippman.

I’m a 22 old guy. For second cool, it’s hard to beat the ISSC MK22 Scar clone. My

Lynn E Fite, Col (r)

I purchased a Gen M&P 15-22 and on the first shooting it fired out of battery. S&W quickly repaired it. The second purchased was the ISSC MK22 S ar

Lynn E Fite, Col (r)

ill figure out how to post one day. The Scar clone has second cool hands down. But the real champs are my Sig 522 and an older Erma M1 22LR carbine. S&W May well sell everyone they make at the ridiculous price, but I’ll remember rhat

Just putting it out there for folks that buy American. There are American options out there still.

Maplebrew

I’ll take my CMMG 22 conversion for my AR any day over a dedicated long rifle.

Charles New

Love my 15-22 with trs-25 and a can. The sweet spot for ammo is something running about 1050fps. perfect gun for the non gun folk who visit, they end up loving it. Slower speed ammo and it can jam a bit, faster and its perfect.

Stuart Z

I believe the 15-22 was banned from Appleseed because of incidents where one went full auto on the range. But reliability may have played a role, either issue would distract from training.

Hold Fast Joe

being 22yr old I'd recommend you look at a really nice AR upper, like a Kreiger barreled upper, maybe ACE, or another shop that makes single point cut rifled barrels. It'll cost, but getting one early before more bans are introduced would be wise I would say just avoid barlein. They're stuff isn't doing so well and they are refusing warranty work now

Han So Oh

My 12 year old 15-22 doesn't have these issues. It did have to go back to warranty once for an out of battery detonation. S&W sent me a recall notice for head spacing shortly afterwards. My HK416 pistol by uramex is a much better both reliability and build quality.
