I've never been a super fan of feral cats...until now. These are "guardians" to the shooting property. The warehouse is always full of dead mice in the traps and they cause problems. Add in the hoards of grasshoppers, voles, rats, snakes, and other vermin. Enter momma cat and her babies that have decided to help us out. Things are better with them around. I'll show you their personalities, their names I gave them, and talk about how much I respect these little creatures. They live a hard life.

I love it when my outdoor cameras notify me of a neighbors cat passing through my yard in the middle of the night. Cats are amazing hunters and help keep the mice away from my home and RV. I'm okay with the occasional cat turd in my flower garden because cats hunt mice.

Feral cats are a menace where I live. I will say I don’t have a mouse problem in the winter though.

On my parents farm, there are 10-20 feral cats. The number changes every now and then, new ones come, some never come back. Other than stepping in a turd every now and then, they generally don’t cause a problem. We have never had a issue with mice chewing wires on equipment, so they do a great job with rodent control.

As for food, we buy 40 pound bags of food, (cheapest we can get) with a bag lasting between 1-2 weeks.

Feral cats are important and keep the mice population down. They will kill mice and other small vermin even if they're not hungry and even if they're being fed by humans. It's what they do. But in neighborhoods they kill a lot of birds, which generated ill will from others. We and our neighbors supported a feral cat community for years, used the humane society's free spay and neuter program, and finally got the number of cats we were feeding every day down from 20 to 5. They were sweet cats who were partially tame, would come when called, and had cat cubes, food, and water in it neighbor's garage. (Cat door.)

Ziggy is our yard cat. We have fat ole lazy dog, 6 chickens, and The Zig. We did have mice/rodent problems from all the chicken feed. Not so much anymore. Ziggy has become part of the family over the past 2 years. Big black cat. Prob belongs to the witch up the road a piece. Cool thx for sharing. No more squirrels either. I hate those things.

Awesome! Wife and I watch the whole thing and enjoyed it. Please keep us updated on the Nutnfancy Feral Cat Family (NFCF) and their adventures.

The Parasites you really want to avoid reproduce only in the intestines of cats. So there……. Zen books detail how cats have no soul. Touché

Maplebrew

Cats are fine, but they need to be managed with spay / neutering. Otherwise we will be Australia and need to hunt those bastards due to overpopulation

The Nutnfancy Project

Thanks for weighing in on that Pat. Sounds like you have a great place and Ziggy is carrying his weight. BTW that was the name of pigeon we'd rescued years ago. He came back to the house for a year!

Woh, great comment and info NM. I agree their population needs to be controlled. I've learned something about these ferals watching them.

Great video! Very much enjoyed it. If you would share the trail camera make & model. Looking for one that sends alerts too. Thank you.

Rocky Meredith

Thoroughly enjoyed it; live long and prosper Cleo and family!

My daughter loved this 9 year old video. We watched the whole thing. Two year old watched some of it too but fell asleep

I like them in the flow. Nice relaxing thing to watch, even though Cleo seems on edge. I also like how excited you are about them. It showcases the reality of TNP. Must have felt amazing when they first went into the shelter you built them.

As the saying goes… if you’re ever in San Diego

matt

Awesome video. Loved watching them. Mice probably mote nutritious than cat food. The organs especially. In the winter they probably could use some extra food

Lance L Black

Love my dogs and cats, but cats are the best property managers in keeping rodent population under control. Nutn you got some real winners, thanks for the vid and your extended family!

I've been a TNP'R for about ten years now and you never sease to surprise me lol. What's Nutnfancy gonna come up with next to make a video about this time lol. Those cats are freaking cool I've never been a cat fan, I have had a terrible allergy to them all my life. I can't be in the same room with one for more than an hour or two before I'm popping Benadryl lol. But a situation like yours that would be ideal entertaining and helpful at the same time, that's awesome I'm happy for ya. Hopefully they stick around and stay healthy, perhaps a random cat video might trickle it's way into the content flow 😂

Like the fox video, these are a fun addition to reviews. Tnp life adventures.

Cats in the wild get their water intake from food mostly, so they don't typically need water put out. If you're going to feed them in the winter, I'd get some feed mice for snakes at Petsmart and put them out there in an insulated container with an open top. The cats can jump in and get the mice, but the mice can't get out.

We've got 3 feral kittens (12 wks old) that we are finally able to pet. I built them a cathouse out of a storage tub also. We'll get them fixed and find them a good home.

Momma cat will bring younguns wounded prey while teaching them to hunt

GarageJim_RMB

Great addition to the project, night time guardians in and outside the wire. Having had ferals they are the best all around rodent removers. Looking forward to updates as the feral family grows.

so I generally hate cats, I have seen homes destoryed by cat piss. We have recently moved to the "country" on 5 acres. our land was infested with voles and gophers and we were scared about having a lawn. my young boys convinced their mom to buy cats against my will, LOL. We have 2, now neutered tom cats regulating shit on the property now!! They have eliminated the voles within a 100 yard radius of the house. They show up with an occasional partial carcus of a dead rodent and usually eat it at their pleasure. These cats hunt the hell out of shit, they generally roam the place with a swagger, yes a swagger! They are very loveable and friendly. believe it or not, they will often go on walks with us and follow us. I still keep my distance, but I am greatful for their hunting ability

I love cats. They're so fun to watch.

I've always had a cat around. People say they mess up your house but if you give them what they want. Like multiple places to go to the bathroom, things to scratch, things to play with they are great. I've got a cat now that was feral and i found him as a kitten in the woods behind my house. His mom must of either abandoned him or something got her. Now he's close to 20lbs. He litteraly murders every pest on property to include a groundhog and he got ahold of a duck one time. I luckily got the duck away from him and he made out fine. He follows me everywhere outside. He is also sweet as can be. It is fun to watch him do his thing.

We've got a couple barn cats on the property. I have them to keep the mice at bay since we have chicken feed in the shop. I feed them almost everyday to keep them strong, every once in a while I'll find a dead mouse on the property.

Love cats- I have 2, but they're pampered house cats. Got them from rescue so they're spayed. Cats love to be up high and protected so they can survey their " kingdom"..maybe build a cat tree so they can be above the ground and facing out of wind- maybe they'll feel more secure too. I think they also like corners where they can hide more than out in the open. As long as they can keep watch what's going on, they're good. It might be why your Cleo is a bit more wary of the shelter. Long ago, I had a cat who had her babies in the back of my closet, and that's where she wanted those babies to stay- she'd always move them back there. My current kitties favorite spot now is the highest shelf in my bedroom. 2 soft boxes sit up there- one day they figured to knock the lids off and nestle themselves inside the boxes where I keep extra blankets and throws. They just chill up there and peer down at me. Plus they like the close by side leap down to the window ledge where they love to keep tabs on what's going on outside. If you're not careful, you'll keep finding ways to build a romper room just for the cats. Lol! 🐈 😻 🐈‍⬛️
