Any watch fan should enjoy this walk through of many things Breitling and then TAG Heuer. I'll cover their design aesthetic, talk about why their so expensive, mention the xlnt clones that are made, and tell you which are my fave models. Several are striking in their good looks, they'll maintain value, and they are widely respected in the watch industry. But will cost you a bit of money, discussed here. I'll show you one homage that's, to me, just as enjoyable to wear as a real Aquaracer. I'll also show a lot of their ugly models and express shock at how people would buy them. This is video is meant for non TNP audiences too.

Are Breitlings, TAG watches worth buying?

I just bought a used Casio AQ-S800W for $30. I think it's a very underrated watch for the price. Especially since it's tough solar.

There's a few watches from Tag and Breitling I like such as the Navitimer and Monaco. For the longest time, Breitling and Tag just used off the shelf ETA or Valjoux based movements in most of their watches. I think now they are using some in house movements but to me paying 3k and up for a ETA based watch just isn't worth it. But, some peole like Tag or Breitling and are totally fine with it and thats cool. Companies like Sinn produce insanely nice and legitimate pilot watches that are ETA/Sellita based for about 1600 dollars which to me is a better option. In the luxury proce range, I'm a fan of Tudor, Grand Seiko, and Omega. You get in house movements, luxury quality, and your not paying Rolex prices. Omega's service prices aren't ridiculous either. I mean it is what it is. When you get into higher end watches your gonna be spending serious coin and thats all their is to it. Buy what you like and enjoy it regardless of the brand or what people say. I have just as much fun wearing a Seiko or a Vostock as I do wearing a Omega, Tudor, Grand Seiko

I love simple faces. Nothing overly busy. I do love Jomashop for they're fantastic prices.

"When you get into higher end watches your gonna be spending serious coin and thats all their is to it. Buy what you like and enjoy it regardless of the brand or what people say. " Great commentary Josh, thank you. I LOVE SInn watches and hope to get some pieces for review or at least an SSE like this. And yes, buy what you love and it what it is. These watches will hold most of their value as discussed also. I've had requests here in Patreon to cover these brands and this was fun.

The only watch I bought new was a GShock, my first watch. I have two others both Alpinas, both bought used, which was the only way I could have afforded them. Still looking to handsmod my Startimer Chrono to beef up those darned sliver hands...

Finally a watch review i can enjoy. I recently changed to digital. Check out the K52. Only $52. Works great. I only wear stainless or titanium wristbands. My wife bought me a breitling about 20 yrs ago while she was in Singapore. I only wear it on special occasions. My favorite by far. My EDC are citizens chronographs. And always keep the box

Todd

It’s not an Avenger, but … I do have a Chrono Superocean I’d send you. I think it’s a 42mm, charcoal face. I didn’t think I could wear a larger watch at that time.

LIKE # 13 for GREAT living; Browning shotguns, SiGArms, and many others. I SALUTE your endeavors to QUALITY of life and THRIVING! Drive on!!! Loving my Glycines!

Watches! My preferred watches are still under $300 because of their value features, Glycine Airpilot, Master 1000 auto, Momentum Smikejumper…I like the screen shopping approach. I didn’t know about the pre-owned section.

goodness, I really want an omega planet ocean, When I look at a watch I ask myself how much money will I lose? what else should I be doing with the money. some watches are hard to imagine being worth it. an ETA movement is basically an ETA movement, yeah they get jazzed up with some stuff but Its hard to pay 2 grand for a watch that has the same movement as a $500 watch. I have quit running the seiko nh35's I greatly prefer swiss auto movements, I find that overtime they run way better, I think I would rather have quartz than a cheap seiko auto movement

Rocking my DeepBlue black on black dive watch. Thanks to you Nutn. I wouldn't have known about this company without your videos.

Love this video. So so funny. I hope it gets lots of views. Tachymeter is so stupid. I can’t do it. Has become a deal breaker. It would be so cool to design watches. Thanks for the fun vid. Had a good time. Pure diarrhea. 🤣

I have a Citizen. Finally replaced the battery after a decade of the first battery dying...

This is really a second cool discussion. If you got the dough and it makes you happy, yes! Once you get beyond the fact you are paying for their advertising and want to be part of that club, whatevs. Two examples related to value. In 2006, I purchased a base model Panerai (both of these from Jomashop. Now, a base Rolex was right at $4K. Here is why the Panerai was actually a value watch. Why? Because they only produced at that time, about 30,000 units per year, so exclusivity and pure craftsmanship made it good value. Whereas, Rolex produces in excess of 1 million pieces each year. The difference? Panerai has a 100th of the ad budget of Rolex and I do not believe sponsors. It’s a simple value/supply and demand equation. In fact, there was exclusivity in owning a Panerai and you didn’t feel like a patsy paying the price. Their movements are also gorgeous. Second example. Ball watches. Hands down one of the finest Swiss watches in the world. You can get them on Jomashop for between $1,200 up. Again, their base model, quality, fit/finish wise, is superior to a base Rolex. Again, minimal ad and sponsorship budgets. It just goes to show how much money you are paying for THEIR business expenses. In my 40 years of collecting all kinds of watches, a FINE Swiss watch is reasonably “worth” about a grand. You are paying the rest to be part of the club. Breitling makes fine watches. In my opinion $1,600 for a quartz Tag is not good value and does not even get you any second cool points. Just some perspective. I worked in the industry and did some work with Invicta back when Eyal rebranded the company in the 1990’s. Value, very personal, indeed!

Well said. Sinn watches are good looking. I also like the Damaskos that Long Island Watch Co carries.

JFire

I’ve always wanted a Breitling because to me it’s the watch that I think Maverick would wear. Maybe it’s their ads that have jet pilots and warbirds. One day I’ll have one

Rick Grad

I have a Tag Calibre 5 with a black face. It got the watch about a decade ago from my business pattern, after I achieved a year long work goal. I mostly wear GShock watches, because I don’t feel bad about banging them into things. The Tag sits in the safe and I really love wearing it on special occasions.

MyBall Wilson

I think you'll like Sinn watches.

The other thing to recognize in the value equation is there are a handful of, yes, a handful of Swiss companies that make their own movements. The vast majority of even luxury brands use an ETA or Sellita movement and then decorate and mod it to their specs. The ETA movements are not expensive, but the workmanship and decoration from REAL hand crafter bench watch makers drive prices way up. Breitling and Tag are ETA modified movements. Again, nothing wrong with this, but there is a mystique about “pure” Swiss watches which is not reality. There are only a handful of companies that are pure Swiss, meaning ALL the components of the piece are sourced from Switzerland. Look up “Bedat” as a company that truly makes a purely Swiss made watch. I would say over 90% of even semi serious watch collectors have heard of this brand.

Excellent video man. 44mm case for everyday is perfect in my opinion.

Love watches and I love this type of review for this level of watch. It's great to see how the other half lives, but if you're gonna spend $3500 on the project, by ammo or another firearm. My 2 cents. Thanks Colonel!

Bluegill097

I'm with you, Tag's are ugly and Breitlings are just plain over priced and overcrowded for me.

Hudson

Growing up, I used to think these were so cool. Breitling, Tag, Omega, etc. But after having gone to a store recently just to window shop, you realize there are so many better deals with a similar aesthetic from other brands. The allure isn’t what it used to be, and reminds me why Harley’s are so expensive. You’re almost spending more for the name than for the product.

HappyFrancisMacomber

Top tier brand. deep blue is so good and always find time on my wrist - 2 master 1000 IIs and an alpha marine 500.

HappyFrancisMacomber

I have a similar list, but glycine combat sub. The smokejumper is excellent so light and thin, legible

HappyFrancisMacomber

Tags don’t do much for me anymore other than 2000’s nostalgia. I do love the look of the old Breitling Navitimer II.
