It looks like a mating pair is skunks are going to take up residence at the Fox Den. The foxes have been gone for months now and have not returned.

I had killed that one skunk that I believed ate the kit foxes so he is gone. My question to you is should I let this skunk pair live in the den? I am inclined to because the foxes have not returned so at least it’s getting used by some creature. Let me know what you think

I would try putting our some repellant to get them to abandon the old fox dens to get the to relocate. Hopefully after some time the foxes might return.

Leaning towards let em live but remember we believers have a piece of EDC to help us. When I do not know what to do, I just pray about it.

Let them live. You will soon see a few little baby skunks and they are super cute.

Thad Richardson

Let them live. If they become a nuisance then you can decide what to do about them.

CJ Habiak

I’d let them use it honestly. If they aren’t a pest and the kit unfortunately already met his fate and the foxes aren’t reusing it I agree with your first instinct. I’m a softie though I let a bunch of raccoons hang around the back part of my property because they never bothered my chickens. If they got into a coop though I’d have needed to be harder on them

Charles Wester

You're better off EDC'ing a Magic 8-Ball.

BadgerTails

How many skunks did you want to have? No, I am not a thrill-kill kind of guy and I don't watch those videos either, but this is a scenario for our own animal control. Remove the skunks, leave room for the fox returns. Either way it's a PITA; getting rid of them, or having anywhere from 2-10 skunks in their first batch in your condo.. Live trap is a no-go unless you want to be sprayed for a video?LOL!

I vote to let them live, unless they should start getting into your garden or stinking up the place too much. If they turn from skunk to pest, then permission to engage. I had a similar situation with some red squirrels getting on my deck, nesting in my wood pile and my dog ended up getting flees from being on the same deck where the squirrel had been, and then brought them in to the cats inside the house. He was also ripping up plants, and chewing up the deck. So out came the crossbow and down went Mr.Squirrel with a clean headshot (I do have photographic evidence incase people disbelieve but I don’t volunteer those pics around as they are a bit graphic). If they are in my forest I love seeing them. If they are getting into my stuff and being destructive. Game over.

Dispatch or deter them from taking residence. Skunks will not enhance what you are trying to accomplish. Which is to establish a productive garden and homestead. Be selective on what you allow to live there. The feral cats and kit foxes (should they return), keep out varmits/rodents, whereas skunks are destructive.

Buster Wall

By all means, don't hurt them.

MarcTX

I think I would use some pepper spray in the general area to hopefully encourage them to move on because sooner or later a skunk will do what a skunk does

I am in the live and let live camp. If they’re not bothering anyone, I’d leave them alone. Each animal has its place in the web. If they start to become a nuisance, become destructive, or there are concerns about them being vectors for rabies, etc., then cull them. But at this point, I’m in favor of a wait-and-see approach.

It’s easy for me to say “live” from across the country. But its a different story for a pair of groundhogs under my shed, considering a safe proximity to neighbors and their horses.

Moe Mansour

I don't know anything about skunks. Are they like gophers that procreate out of control if un-checked? If so, I'd say limit the population.

Johnny Motorcycle

Skunks are nest predators. They'd be dead if they were on my property. I'd rather have the birds and turkeys.

matt

If they are not being a problem I would leave them alone. How are the cats doing.

Colin Kelley

I say dispatch them quickly and humanely like you did previously

Uch

Normally I’d merk em but as an alternative I’d just fill in the hole/den.

WILLIAM MEYER

Dust em! Skunks will behave according to their nature. They will raid your garden, dig around your foundation, procreate like a satanic cult, and smell to high heaven whether they spray or not. My view is it's best not to encourage their residence on, or near, your property. Feel the same way about squirrels as well. Destruction is in their nature.

Nathan Andrew Lewis

Will breed more to drive off your foxes and wreck havoc.

Zach Maddox

To quote my dads's old redneck hunting buddy "kill em all"

Iowa Dave

Who wants a stinky range area? Dispatch the skunks. Then fill in the hole. You are getting welfare animals taking free holes. Let self-sufficient animals dig their own holes.

Gary Groeschke

Why not let them use it free room and board isn’t a bad thing for those second class citizens

Lynn E Fite, Col (r)

We have foxes, racoons, cotton tail rabbits, skunks on our property. We let them all Iive. Since we feed our deer, the mixture of animals eat at different times. We have raccoons that will chase a fox away and we have a fox that stands its ground when eating peanuts from the raccoons. Intimidation is the name of the game

steve garrett

They dig a lot in ground. Eliminate them

Clint Raby

Personally I would try to run them off, but if that didn't work I would dispatch them. Baby skunks are really cute, I wouldn't want to be in a spot to have to kill them.

N. M. Robertson

Besides stinking unbearably, skunks are famous for carrying rabies. You should definitely kill them and try to dispose of the bodies in a sanitary way.

TNSheep

skunks are good bug eaters. Fox's just kill your livestock and chickens. I got foxes I need to wack right now cause they hit 4 of my chickens in the middle of the day. Now i have to leave my chicekns locked up, but the foxes are on someone elses property and I can't get to them unless I wanna put on a ghilli suit. And they had pupps, so they are not coming down here as often so It's impossible to live trap them.

Tygre

No skunks

Red dog 1

Wait till you get sprayed by them Nutn

DudeDudeDude

I spent way too long trying to get the photo to play a video.

Michael B warner

I would leave them be personally for the time being, however if they started getting into things and became a problem to my property. Then I would take them out like I often do with Red squirrels and chipmunks.
