A fun online review of the PSA JAKL. I will talk honestly about my take on the guns, my predictions, reservations, the all-tested-here competitive options, and then surprise you with my fave version of the gun. For special POUs the Jakl could make good sense (discussed) but for most a good AR15, lighter and cheaper, will do just fine...even suppressed (been doing it for many years here). Like all these monolithic receiver builds the Jakl will be front heavy, expensive, recoil oddly, and weigh too much overall (except for the pistol version, shown late!). But guys love SCAR-looking carbines and probably always will. Also the Jakl .308 is shown and discussed; it seems to be 100% sold out btw. So again PSA is delivering high value to its customers while giving them what they want.

TNPP David Elkins "The upper isnt 100% compatible with AR lowers. If you get an upper only you have to put a small piece on the rear of the AR lowers and you have to install a bolt release that’s a little more slender than standard. I bought a complete gun but their “upper kit” includes both parts and they aren’t difficult to install."

I totally concur, if u have the funds to try the Ruger RXM ! Me and my brother have been excitedly looking at them and really want to try one. I mean I’m a Glock guy who primarily shoots shadow systems now but a Glock type pistol for under $500 with all the basic upgrades u need like sights… I think it’s a big deal and being from a more common/major manufacturer I hope it will take off! Rant over lol, God bless Nutn and tnprs!

Ian

I tried to wait...

David Elkins

I have a Jakl in 300. BLK. Really like it but…I’m having to send it back for warranty regarding light primer strikes (on multiple quality factory ammo) and some other issues. All issues sprang up within first couple hundred rounds of shooting, zeroing. So it’s not a recommend for me at moment unless their customer service on the warranty work is legit.

Guy Actual

I have been waiting on this one, and surprised to see it so soon. Thank you. I have been holding out on getting one due to the rail issues I have seen (First hand) and them being out of spec by a lot. Thanks for putting this out there. My next money will be on the PSA SABRE 10. (Forged... becaused duh!) Not sure if I am going .308 or 6.5Creedmoor yet as if i go 6.5 I will also have to invest in the reloading supplies (At min 1,000 cases, bullets, powder, dies) so still thinking on the cal. Im open to hearing what others my have to say if you have one in 5.6Creed.

Rick Grad

I love PSA Gen 3 stuff. I bet this thing will be better in a few years.

Andrettski

Def a cool lineup, cudos to PSA but it's a no from me. I'm not venturing out from my AR's and AK's. My AR/AK pistols are 100%. If I had a stockpile of 300 or 308 might be a consideration. Thanks for another GRV Nutn.

The Hide

I think these are a heck of a value. The one i shot performed exceptionally. I too can't afford one to review for my channel either. Sometimes we have no choice to work with a manufacturer to get the review content out there. Just as lo g as the manufacturer understands no punches will be pulled and the gun will be presented exactly how it performs. Thanks for keeping on keeping on Nutn!

Ian

my why was for size. the pistol length of these with a folding pistol brace. fits into small packs well.

Alex H

I've had reliability issues with some suppressed DI guns and have broken parts in an AR10. I always shoot my guns suppressed so I prefer piston guns and I'll take the trade off the accuracy and weight for the ability to use a suppressor without having to play with a gas block or having to buy and install an adjustable gas block.

Ace Invasive

I've seen multiple reviews point out the gas block detent not holding position and being completely indiscernible which position it is in. The monolithic receiver is for holding zero with a night vision laser aiming device. The tuning fork style muzzle devices have the best flash and sound performance with a suppressor.

David Elkins

The charging handle does not reciprocate and can be swapped to either side.

David Elkins

Patrick Lovette

Yes I would like your opinion on the rxm.

The Nutnfancy Project

Thanks "The monolithic receiver is for holding zero with a night vision laser aiming device." I think I do mention that here. That being said I have no problems with proper front handguards with AR15s, like none

David Elkins

One last note. I purchased a do it all (for me) .30 cal suppressor from Griffin that attaches to A2 flash hiders (have to be timed). Got my 300 Blk Jakl with an A2. The Jakl A2 was a tad too thick on the flats to mount the suppressor to it so I had to utilize a muzzle device from Griffin instead.

I have owned a JAKL SBR (8.5” 300AAC) for about a year now. I have shot it recreationally and in some carbine competitions. I have had good luck with mine overall. I went with the Midwest Industries Alpha AK stock and added a SiCo Omega 300 can. It is a pretty cool gun that gets lots of compliments from friends. Only issue I had was with some crappy reloads where the primers were seated so deeply that it caused light strikes. Nonissue with factory ammo. Strangely, i cannot tell any difference whatsoever in any of the gas settings. Need more time with it to fully trust it.

Bill The Broken

Look forward to watching. Man the opinions have been all over the board on this one - look forward to hearing yours. Ty as always for what you do.

Notes From The Bunker

I have three of these...1 carbine and 2 SBR. The F5 stock is very flexible and that lack of rigidity is a bit underwhelming. Looks cool because it gives the gun the "Is that a SCAR?" vibe, but you'd really be serviced with a better stock. Buy the carbine length upper and mate it to one of the lowers with the pic rail back-end. This will let you forgo the F5 stock and get something much more rigid and useful (and probably lighter). For the SBR I went with the JMAC skeleton stocks and for the carbine I went with a Midwest AR-180-style stock. Both lock rock solid and are, IMO, a better choice than that factory stock. The forend tends to heat up and it can get a bit toasty after a few mags. Using a VFG mitigates this, but be aware of it. Otherwise, it's a nice gun for when you want something other than an AR. The folding stock makes it nicely compact for storage and I keep one at work tucked in a cabinet. It really doesn't do anything an AR doesn't do, but I like the more hygienic operating system. Don't sell off your AR's, but this is a nice alternative and just something different.

J Ram

Ditto

Nathaniel Shelton

Exactly. The main reason I got the JAKL in 300AAC is because I was experiencing burnout with ARs. Different caliber, (slightly) different gun made sense to me at the time. I do like it. I’m just not totally in love with it.

Carl Bailey

Weight was buried in the FAQ. 7.3lbs with the included magazine for this model.

BadgerTails

Bought a GF3 from PSA, brand new. Less than 100 rounds I ended up with a gas block which would not secure, as the latch was FUBAR, from the factory. They REFUSED to honor their lifetime warranty, much less ANY aspect of customer service, and actually blocked me from their Twitter/X page?! Made and published a video of the quality control problem; no clue how THIS rifle got out the back door. KEEP that in mind when you drop $$$ with PSA produced firearms.

Porter3861

Really enjoyed this format as you scrolled through the PSA page and provided your commentary with rants included. I've been a very pleased customer of PSA for several years from whom I've purchased rifles, pistols, and parts. Thanks for another great video.

SigCrash

So after your Stag Spectrum review I was jonesing hard for some fde in my life and after hours upon hours of research (and a lack of a Nutnfancy review of the jakl) I decided to build out an 18in fde Aero AR instead. Through my research I stumbled upon the Global Ordnance Monolith which might interest you a little more than the jakl due to better SAWC 😉 (And yes I have one waiting for me to pick up at my ffl but don't need a confirmation review).

BadgerTails

My old SIG P556 is w/o a doubt, would be, my last 5.56 IF I had to give them all up. I'd gamble on a used SIG off GunBroker before buying ANYthing else from PSA in firearms again; Lifetime Warranty and they REFUSED to honor it with a bad gast ube latch fix?! Nope. No. Nada. Finito!

Mattimus

Honestly, this was a fun video. I didn’t mind the format of cruising the web together. Could cover a lot of ground. Have you ever thought about Geissele’s super-duty line?

Matthew Sinn

Put it against a retake of the SFAR. Your example was iffy. Fair. It's sold very well. Personally, I wouldn't change my choice.

Robert Plested

There's a PSA retail store in Savannah GA. Big one.

kylenor

I would love your opinion on the RXM mainly because here in Commiechusetts we can't get anything PSA. I've heard that Ruger has sent the RXM to testing here. All handguns have to go through some bs Massachusetts compliance/safety testing facility before they can be added to the "Approved Roster". There used to be ways around the roster but new legislation killed it, however PSA would never ship here anyways... Great video as always Nutn!

JB

Glad to be back! I was a very longtime pay support before leaving about year ago, not a fan of Patreon. They must be doing something on commie YouTube because you have been heavy in my feed. Miss the long form reviews! PSA has been hit or miss for me, great AK and a terrible dagger experience. I was really considering this until I shot one and wasn’t a fan, stock was very flimsy, it was a “pistol” version. I think the 308 is where this would really shine if it’s accurate.

The Nutnfancy Project

Great to have you back! I need you guys. I still do PLENTY of long form GRVs; make sure you catch up with all the videos that are here in Patreon. Speaking of which, Patreon has been great with me. They do not harass me or try to control my content. Having lots of NON GUN content helps me be durable here. And you guys donating too!

The Nutnfancy Project

Thanks. Me too. It is really a way to look at a lot more stuff and generate educational conversation. It will always be real and founded in the many years of testing here. I have a TNPP already contact me saying he has a loaner Jakl; so I will be doing a real test sometime.

The Nutnfancy Project

Me too! Glad it's connecting with you guys. I love how it turned out. More on the way and we can go to some very interesting places in this format.

The Nutnfancy Project

Wow, hadn't heard that experience yet. I have heard good things about their cust svc but who knows. I will say all the PSA I've bought have never needed service, including 2 Daggers and TD's Dagger.

BadgerTails

Yup. I was pumped for it to rock, and look at some more PSA. Thank goodness you diverted my checkbook to the VSKA Tacticals. I don't know of a single gun smith in our area here that works on AKs!

Iowa Dave

Any thoughts on the Brownells BRN-180 as a Jakl competitor? They just released a third generation of the BRN-180.

Joooosh

what was wrong with the latch?

Matthew Larson

Just found out today I wasn't listed as a member, even though I was billed at the start of this month, but I'm back! Thanks for discussing the JAKL. Looking forward to a testing review, as I've been considering an 8.5" .300 as a value addition for suppressed use. Edited to add: On colorations, I did see a Woodland iteration just earlier this week. Maybe more camos will follow?

Big Dog

Will you review the flux raider?
