In field with this hand chainsaw that apparently some of you dudes love! This is the discontinued UST Sabrecut but it's representative of the type and it's high quality. The video overlays show pocket chain saws that looks even better (below). The target is scrub oak hard wood that is still planted. It is only about 3 to 4 inches in diameter. This should be easy and fast work for an efficient TCE saw. I use a 24" Bahco Force bow saw to demonstrate this. So here you'll see how the hand chainsaws work in real life snowy conditions with just light cutting. I'll give my takes as we go along and reference the many saw reviews I've done to this point (links below!). Also a snow chipmunk makes his presence known.

Will Hand Chainsaws Let You Down?

I saw the title and I thought about the little Milwaukee M18 pruning chainsaw. Nope, I was wrong. I look forward to watching this.

Perhaps green wood might be easier with the chain, dry wood is not too forgiving.

Carl Bailey

have you ever tested a Gerber freescape? It might be an option.

The Nutnfancy Project

Not yet but the ones listed above satisfy every wilderness sawing need I could have, thanks Carl

GMAX

I bought the Sawvivor back when you did those vids! Did someone ever make replacement blades?

Carl Bailey

A lot of the frame saws were discontinued, but the Agawa Boreal is still made and comes in a smaller size like I want. Thanks.

PTL SCIENCE

I counted that you used 19 strokes with the bow saw, and 28 strokes with the chain saw. Difference is due to fewer cutting teeth on the chain saw.

Love to see reviews and thoughts on stuff like this.

Firemedic Mike

Tractor Supply sells a version from Gerber. I haven't tested it yet.... so thanks Colonel for previewing!

Matt Geiger

I really like those handles that take Sawzall blades preferably the foldable ones

I have one in my Scout Essentials pack (that I now use for standard hikes since retiring from Boy Scouts, not a BOK, or GHB), I got it as a Christmas gift one year and tossed it in there as a just in case last resort. I used it once just to try it out and it works I guess, but as you state, TCE are better spent using a regular pack saw.

Dan

Love how you keep churning out sweet content!!

Never liked these. I have a few in kits only because I received them as gifts over the years. Figured they are better than nothing or if I have someone with me, I can say it’s awesome and cool and then “let” them use it!

RafterW

What clothing are you wearing @nutn? Jacket & Hat. Thanks

Alex H

My prediction before watching the video is these still suck and anyone recommending these saws aren't actually using them. I'll use silky saws or Wyoming saw.

You’re right, they were making a 15” in the past
