The Beretta 80X Cheetah is back which warms the hearts of 380 fans around the world. In this review, TD and I revisit the classic Cheetah design with its upgraded features: optics-ready slide, re-contoured frame, skeletonized hammer, and modern reliability. It’s built for shooters with smaller hands, lower grip strength, or just those who want a soft-shooting, fun-to-run semi-auto in a classy, high-quality package. We tested it for reliability, accuracy, and shootability (all shown)...and spoiler alert: it’s a joy.

But the 80X isn’t cheap...neither is .380 ammo. Is the gun worth the nearly $800 street price? Would I recommend it over a micro 9mm? And is it really a smart option for elderly shooters or newer gun owners? All this and more in this in-depth TNP review of Beretta’s “come-back cat.” This video made possible by YOU.

I've been carrying an 80X Cheetah for a few months now and I love it. I paired mine with a JK 105 CCX silencer. 10/10 fun, one of my favorite pistols. Important safety note: The reason for Sean the TNP'er's malfunction at 18:50 was when he fired the previous round he had the hammer back and the safety in the upward position. This is NOT safe! The safety doesn't engage until the hammer decocks, so he essentially stuck the pistol in his chest rig in single-action mode with the safety off. This is super unsafe. If you pull the trigger it WILL go off and can also damage the pistol, because the safety lever prevents the slide from coming back. I tried it at the range and it jammed my safety lever in a weird position and I thought I'd broken it. This was the cause of his malfunction, and also Nutn did the same thing at 9:59. There is NO locked-and-cocked position on this pistol, you have to fully engage the decocker. Pause at 18:48 and look very closely: The safety is halfway up and the hammer is back.

The old school Cheetahs are on the surplus market for around $300 and are a great deal. They are blued and do not have some of the modern features but they are a better buy.

Do those benchmade handles have wrinkles or a bacon effect on the bottom side?

The cheetah series can be confusing. I am pretty certain that you are correct in your statement about the 80x safety operation. However, the earlier cheetahs did not have the decock feature and they were made to be carried cocked and locked with the safety lever in the up position. The downside with the earlier designs is if you wanted to carry safety off with the hammer down you had to decock the hammer with your thumb. If you slipped you risked firing the gun.

Yep, it's kinda sketchy. Every single person I've handed this pistol to on the range has done the exact same thing: Shot a few rounds, clicked the safety halfway up without fully decocking the hammer, and then assumed the pistol was safe when it's not. It isn't just my pistol, either. Two of my family members also have 80X's and they all are able to do it.

Love the kill em with class patch. Any chance those can be sold too? I’d love one! Also just subscribed to Doodles channel.

Excellent title 🤣👍🏼

I love that they make it in a larger frame. A large 380 can be a great choice for the elderly.

The 80X is a stylish side arm. Great job Beretta. My favor pistol chambered in 380 is my Mauser HSc.

I have a beretta 86 cheetah with the tip up barrel. They are only 7+1 capacity, but a super cool gun.

Have you seen the new Leatherman fixed blades??? They look cool

Having shot a Beretta 85F and 84FS and really liking them for the most part, I'm happy to see you finally cover the Cheetah lineup.

Man I think this a cool gun. Practical? Not for me, but I just like the looks and form factor. That being said, I’d like it a lot more for about $300 less. Even for the nostalgia I couldn’t justify it over the bodyguard 2.0… Still I liked looking at it on the table top. Thanks for the content!

I enjoy carrying my 380. Sig P238, nobody has any clue it’s there

This was a good shooter. Heavy tho.

I really wanted to buy one of these in the burnt bronze color they made it in when it was first released but decided against it because its 800 and I don't own any 380 pistols so id need invest another $500+ into ammo. Then id need a holster and didn't want to invest $1500 into a rotational carry pistol when I have too many other hobbies.
