This is one of those blades that makes you stop and just grin. The Microtech Scarab II Gen III is the ultimate mashup of Microtech’s best updates, now leveled up with a double spring system that’s strong enough to fire the blade underwater. Also the “crud cutter” milling on the thumb slide isn’t just cool-looking; it’s functional, breaking up lint and grit for smooth, consistent action. Chamfered handle edges and 3M inlays keep the knife locked in without chewing up your hand or pocket. Other updates in the design are also covered here along with a guest appearance of the also-rad Combat Troodon. This is an amazing addition to your auto knife collection but it's also a legit fighting knife, don't kid yourself. That's its real appeal. Yes, it’s expensive. Yes, it’s collectible. And yes, it’s going to hold its value unless the earth stops spinning.

My son bought me an ultra tech. Not something I would have bought. I freaking love it. The blade steel is the best I have owned. I use my for light prying. I know bad idea. But it’s been almost a year everyday and I love it.

I picked up one of those Combat T's in blue and it's completely insane. Drool factor - 10 Pucker factor - 10 (It cost as much as my first car.) Like a woman who has just given birth, I vow never to purchase another Microtech again. THIS one completes me. And yet, like a woman who has just given birth, I will forget this pain in 6 months or a year and do it all over again. It's just how God made me.

Wow, what a comment and you nail it! Indeed these special blades transcend the cost at times and stay in our minds the entire time. They are great "anchors" for a good collection. And strangely I never hear of TNPrs selling theirs...like ever.

I've always wanted a Microtech but could never justify the cost. The Kershaw Livewire finally filled the OTF void in my life. Keep up the hard work Nutn.

I noticed some of my older OTF MT's were getting so stiff, I had forgotten just how much their recommended "blast some remoil in there and dry it out with a compressor" technique fixes it. Slicks 'em right up

Gotta love Microtech. I love my Combat Trodoon, UDT II, and manual SOCOM Elite, but they’re all so damn nice. I never carry them. Seems like it’s always the good old CQC7V in my pocket.

Yummmmm Too bad I live in a province where I can’t own that or go into the woods this summer. Nova Scotia fire ban. Eco-austerity is here.

Nutn, please check your messages when you have a minute:) I picked up the red one last year. Loved it, saved up for two months and bought a black one that I could carry and have the red one stashed away in the collection.

“I’m not even halfway done with the Nutnfancy Project” Awesome! I love it.

I'm just playing with my Lightning OTF like a poor boy.

Great looking knife!! I bought a Lightening about a year ago as a fidget knife to replace my Benchmade Infidel. Extremely tight to deploy and retract, sent it back to Microtech, had it 8 weeks and returned saying all is good. Got over a year into the "break-in period", no change. Must have gotten a garage door spring. Checked against other Microtechs and mine is much tighter. I have no complaints about it's Second Cool looks though is what I have kept it.

I hate how we cannot have automatic blades in Washington. I would definitely get 2!

Tacticaldoodle

Spray a bunch of remoil in it, and if you do it right it makes a world of difference. Our special editions were always very stiffly sprung, I finally did the whole routine, applying remoil in blade up/blade down positions on either side, so the oil would saturate everything down below.

Tacticaldoodle

The official fix is just to spray remoil into the blade slot, and then blow out the excess with an air compressor, but being thorough really lets the teflon coat every mated surface in there. It reduced the stiffness by about 40% or so. WHen those things are dry, it's hard to just retract with the older slick levers

Love my lightenings! Best garage tool shop and truck kit blades.

GarageJim_RMB

Thanks TD, I will give it a shot and let you know.

GarageJim_RMB

Yep, that's the ticket. Flick Flick Flick no it's slick!!! Thanks TD
