Thanks for sharing Nutn. You’re the bomb. Still soldier boy ready haha

The Dude

I too have a horrible mother. Thank God for giving me a father that could be a Dad and fill in the role of a mom when I needed it.

Osi Gyaami

Powerful, I share some similarity with you & I'm starting to realize where my shortcomings & excuses are coming from. Luckily my father was a good role model or I'd be completely lost.

I'm fortunate to have had two great parents. My dad (a naval aviator) had a stroke when I was 19, never recovered. My mom was a rock star and has been since. I'm 41 now. They're still married, Mom had been handling all of it and taking care of him. My wife, on the other hand... We separated a few years ago. I've tried everything to make it work, even post separation. She's incredibly selfish and manipulative, survival mechanisms she's learned from a life full of intense trauma. But I have a hard time quitting on her. She is starting to understand that I won't let her walk on me.

I don't have a bad relationship with my mom per say, but it's a weak one. My son only see's his mom every other weekend, and although she has slowly gotten better, she let him down so much in the past. I'm overjoyed with being a dad. I love being with my son.

Amen Nutn. I really appreciate you being so open about your families struggles in life. I said a prayer over you and Mrs. Nutnfancy. In times where I battle myself with self doubt I go back to your “Damn Good Joe” video. Damn Good Joe and your Air Force Stories videos, I would say were a major part of laying the foundation of who I am today. Thanks for your hard work!

The Nutnfancy Project

THank you Elijah, much appreciated. I don't know how to be any different. Realness lands.

My parents separated when I was 10, divorced 2 years later. My mom was deeply depressed from it which led to mental illness IMO. However, she always loved me very much and tried to take care of us the best she could. I will always love both my parents.

I pretty much had a solo Mom, Pops was a traveling salesman, gone 6 out 7 days or 13 outta 14 days. Some how had 1 brother and 2 sisters all way much younger than me. I having so little male discipline growing up turned into the drunken son no one would want to have. With that I carried a lot of resentment towards her. Years later (18), I found a way to stop drinking and looking back realized she did the best she could and today firmly believe that. Years later (37) and still not drinking, I have been able to rebuild a relationship with her and help her out in her senior years. I am a lucky guy that I have been allowed that much grace. Still not perfect, yet so much better. Rock on Nutn for keeping it real and honest. Ramble On, dudes!!!

DudeDudeDude

Great video. It takes a lot of guts to make one like this.

Konamifan88

Yooo. This hits hard. Mine was a violent Alcoholic most of my life. Thanks for the vid nutn

Rookie Numbers

Really good video dude. The portrayal of “perfect lives” in media and on social media steals a lot of hope from people who are made to feel alone because their lives aren’t perfect. Nobody’s life is perfect. Also, I appreciate how you demonstrated that a manly dude can be vulnerable but vulnerable in a way that’s constructive and affirms the benefits of faith, hope, hard work, perseverance and healthy relationships. Thanks for continuing to reaffirm this in the project👍

Excellent. Family is family. That does not mean that you have to like or support to the ends of the Earth all you family members. All Families are dis-functional in some way or other. The key to family relationships is setting, insisting upon and enforcing boundaries of all kinds. Boundaries can include emotional, financial and closeness. As a fully grown man my own families financial needs come first. I cannot let family drama affect me to such an extent that I screw up my own deal. In addition, I have had to literally separate myself from certain family members who were a net negative in my life. My priority stack is 1. myself, 2. my wife, 3. my children, 4. my families security in all things, 5. my community, 6. my State, 7. my country. Each of these level builds on the prior element. If I am not financially/emotional stable I can support my wife and children, or my community . . . etc.

david rockwell

Admiration and appreciation is extended for the moral courage to compose heartfelt talking points that were relayed in a manner exposing vulnerability. Family is such a biased and loaded mythos in Western culture. We all aspire to archetype of the familial role, but often fail for any number of reasons. One must not be comfortable with a failure to connect with those closest to us, but seek guidance and ask forgiveness from that which is greater than our ego. Suppressing the ego driven self is hard. God is in our corner when no one else is there. This reality is not intended to be a continual joy filled experience, rather a series if encounters from which joy may be derived. Your channel and bare-faced emotion has helped me to correct some defects present within. Larger issues are still being reflected and worked on. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication.

panadero190

Broke my heart to hear no family showed up for your aviation milestones. Wish I could have been there to shake your hand. Just watching your videos have been a blessing to this old guy. Most of all your relationship with the Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus. Thanks for sharing your faith. I hope you will keep going. I always look forward to your videos. KC, Texas

Love the content. Makes us think. I'm luckier than many. Patreon is an absolute disaster however. Started watching... couldn't comment as not logged in... broke contact.. back to the beginning of the video. Finally got the code... back to the doggone beginning. Stress... I don't log on to patreon for anyone else... Ok.. I'll live. This all reminds me of an old toolmaker I knew from work. He said he got an M tattooed on each cheek, so when he did cartwheels it said "WOW MOM, WOW MOM" .. I'm sorry to hear about the rougher part of the story NUTN. You never deserved that trouble. You turned out better than all of that.

Zed

Thank you for the helpful video. Helpful because lucky is the person who has no family issues of one kind or another. How we deal with those is the important part.

Mothball556

Nutn, thanks so much for sharing. I teared up with how you spoke so glowingly about your mother in law as your surrogate mother. The Lord knows what we need. You are a huge inspiration to me. These life philosophy videos are up at the top of what I love about TNP. I love hearing about the faith we share in our Lord Jesus Christ. On another note my wife and I are expecting our first baby this summer after over 5 years of infertility. I’m looking forward to applying things I heard in TNP in raising my family.

Adam

Thanks nutnfacey

Michael Boulrice

Thanks for sharing your truth and letting others know that you can still make something out of yourself despite difficult upbringings.

this sounds just like my Ex wife, Just a total wreck will never admit anything is her fault. She has nothing to do with our kids because she can't control them and they don't have any child support attached to them anymore. She fought me constantly for 15 years in court over various bullshit crap. She would switch attorneys and not pay the last one. She doesn't give any shits about her grandkids. same theme a revolving door of men, She has been married at least 3 times after me. She is 50 now and the ruff life and age has left her not so cute anymore. I predict she dies a lonely old woman, correct that a lonely old drunk woman. but to that I would say nutn you need to forgive your mother somehow. If you don't it weighs on you and IMO will have an effect on your health. The hardest thing to forgive is when the effects are still happening. I have a situation like that in my life and I am working on figuring out how to forgive that person.

My parents were polar opposites and as a result they were both dysfunctional, although my dad was far worse because he was big, strong, violent, and just plain mean. He took everything out on my tiny mom and his tiny children. He's dead now and refused on his deathbed to even hear a word about Jesus Christ, so he's in hell now and I'm not the least bit sorry.

N. M. Robertson

Nutnfancy, thank you for sharing. You are right, it opens the door to a lot of terrible childhood experiences. Thank God all four of us kids became Christians and turned out to be good people. But we still all bear the emotional scars.

N. M. Robertson

My dad told us we were worthless and could not succeed, and then punished us when we did not.

Matthew

Great video Nutn, thanks for sharing these stories.

GeoNors

Nutn, I thank you too very much for this vid. My Mom was not great either but she saved my life by setting me up on a blind date. She was so religious it was infectious - on our very first blind date! Help me turn me turn my life around. Love your philosophy vids. I travelled 6 hrs to meet you about 15 years ago to have you sign my pocket knife. It's now a prized possession now, never gets any hard work LOL. Keep it up dude!

I've been looking after my stepmother in her final years: I detest this woman. I'm glad that you can state that you're an Alpha or Sigma, I've fought my way out of being a perpetual Gamma. It helped immensely that I finally stopped seeing myself as 'the boy who's mom died with a psyco step mother' and met a girl who Made Me Want To Be A Better Person. Maybe I'll make it to Delta Male someday. When Dad died he made me promise to not forget her, and although I don't know why, except for periods when I have to step away and cajole her nephew to look after her, and through physical challenges, I'm there. I guess that if I didn't have good examples of parents in my life, I've got Excellent examples of toxic parenting. I'm cynical, yet try to understand both sides of an argument. I will continue to do the right thing, to the best of my ability. Self pity completed.

Thank you 🤝

Great life insight NUTN!! Thank You!!!

Kyle Soucy

What a powerful video. It must have been painful reliving the tragedies you have endured. Thank you for sharing and God bless you.

JFire

Thank you for sharing this…I definitely appreciate my mom and wife more. I think because I have an amazing mother I knew what to look for in my now wife. I definitely chose wisely. Everything you said is spot on 100%.

The Nutnfancy Project

Thanks. Will my lot in life has been blessed, I totally admit that. But I wanted to help those of us that perhaps share the same parental failings I had to get past.

The Nutnfancy Project

Thanks for the honesty, it is always welcome here. Just understand you're not alone in the trials, many share the same type of relationships. You can and will progress beyond this. It is a part of you past but it does not have to define your future. It didn't for me.

The Nutnfancy Project

Thank you George, very kind of you to share that with us. I try hard to not disappoint you dudes here.

The Nutnfancy Project

Goodness gracious, he will regret that if he doesn't already. No one should grow up with that negativity bro.

The Nutnfancy Project

That's a sad story, sorry for you my friend. Your dad has seen the error of his ways by now.

N. M. Robertson

I had no contact with my bipolar father the last 35 years of his life. It was the best 35 of my life! It is OK to walk away.

Paul Kwiatkowski

My mother pulled back into herself trying to avoid my dad's battle with booze. We all suffered. My sisters and I grew up with checked-out parents. Our successes seemed to come late in life because of it. Forgiveness frees me to attempt better. You are brave in your honesty.

Paul Kwiatkowski

Congratulaions on loosing the booze. It's a better life without alcohol.

Casey Jones

Biggest thing, is right there at the end: Ask God to help you, don’t feel sorry for yourself, pick up the ball and move it down the field. I had a good mother, and a decent father, but the only way I got anywhere was owning where I was, asking God for forgiveness and help, then picking the ball up and moving. If for no other reason, but for my wife and kids

Gary Gross

I'm 43 now, I've been here since 26. I have zero doubt Jesus Christ sent you to me.

MrSottobanco

Harsh. I hope that you will forgive him for everything that he did to you in prayer. Let God heal you and your siblings.

Gary Gross

The devil comes in all forms. Amazing to see how god guided you to spread his greatness.

Matthew Larson

A little late to watching this video, but I appreciate you sharing your story, Nutn. The obstacles you overcame and the trajectory you set for your life and your family is inspirational in a time that I really needed to hear it. Thank you.

Brievet

Thank you for this! We continue on with God’s help. The Family content and honest testimony vids have helped tremendously while on my path. Your example is powerful.
