We buck the 20 mph crosswind and pressed on with 715 yd, -6º down angle shooting with the Palmetto .224 Valkyrie again.  This was day two of TNP's "Operation Valkyrie" and a learning experience for both Jardine and I.  We simply wanted to find out what the cartridge can do in this challenging terrain.  It fits in a standard size AR mag (even with 88 gr bullets), in a lightweight rifle, and some loads, as discussed here, represent excellent value for true 1000 yd performance.

Plenty of actual setup and shooting is shown and Jardine and I have our usual banter.  A Nutnfancy built SPR AR15 with Odinworks 18" makes an appearance to square off with the Valkyrie.  Can this SPR reach out reliably to 715 yds with this crosswind?  You might be impressed with its 77 grain performance here...we were.  But there is a catch and we discuss it.

We shuttle the long distance in the Yamaha Wolverine X4 to check/setup targets.  We enjoy our time together as friends and realize this experience is special.  Again in Op V I'll show a lot of the behind the scenes b. it's fun and it shows the immense amount of work it takes to do this.  The X4 getting pretty beat up these days hauling steel, ammo, us, and guns but that's its job and we love having it for scouting and target runs.

Out of nowhere the F35s Lightning IIs from Hill AFB show up for several high speed passes right over us!  Jardine swears he sees a TNP sticker on one of them.  So in this last long range session in Op V you'll see lots of long range shooting, epic scenery, the freedom of the beautiful American West [still!], and jet passes...life was good this day.

Somewhere along the way a potential target thief shows up and we rant about having to worry about such a thing is this remote location!  In the end we'll wrap up our thoughts on the caliber, the centerpiece for this exclusive and diverse TNP shooting Operation!

Hey LTC, looks like your shoulder is doing really well. I’m happy for you. Ricky from IBM

Matthew Sinn

Awesome feature film! Looks like the .224 came through. Was neat to see the phone scope setup in action. Definitely like the variety of target video. Thanks Nutn!

Ricky Kurtz

Hey LTC and friend, your outing make me home sick for doing what your doing when I lived in the Los Angeles area(lived there most of my life) going out to the high desert, the Mojave. Out by Edwards Air Force Base and 29 Palms near Ridgecrest, CA. I can do a lot of that here in flat Florida but in the summer months it’s frig’n humid. I’m not familiar with .224 at all. I will have to check it out. Again, thanks for all the hard work you guys do. You might tell me. How to spell your buddy’s name. I don’t wish to offend him. Ricky from IBM

Unmarginally awesome content. Thanks for putting in the OT today to hammer it out Nutn, I have been watching for it to post all day. Darn good thing it is Saturday night, finished up at 2:39 am. You made my evening. BTW, you need better optics- that bumper sticker said "I suck KC-135's!"

Ricky Kurtz

Hey LTC, that cone you have by the target, you might consider putting an. 8’ or 10’ poll with a red flag. That would give you 2 things, 1.- the ability to judge the wind, and2.- alert traffic down range that there is a target and shooter about. Just a thought. Ricky from IBM

Robert

Other gun tubers??? You’re the only one I watch 🤫

Jerry Hall

Thanks for the video. My prime time entertainment. Diet Pepsi in one hand and IPad in the other watching Nutnfancy Patreon.

Ben Wagner

I like the separate scope cam footage (rather than inset). That light doesn’t seem to work very consistently, at least at this distance (715).

Ben Wagner

Ooh, the side by side is nice. I commented too soon.

Bruce Williams

Love the content Nutn; keep it coming.

David Goodridge

Great shooting! Even better than the bucket shot Quigley made on the bucket.

Gary Boss

I've adopted the 6.5 Grendel in an AR platform. It works well for taking 300 - 400 yard killing shots for wild pigs in west Texas. Cheap barrels in stainless do just fine with 90 to 120 grain hand loads. I'll probably never pursue a .224 Valkyrie but I really enjoyed the content.

Blake Meadows

Like the side by side as opposed to the PIP footage. A lot easier to see compared to the the smaller PIP. Great content, fellas. Keep up the awesome work! Much appreciated!

Kenny VanCleave

You have had a lot of success with your home grown ar15. If you had to put a value on it, other than priceless, what would you say? Great video! What a view with those snow covered mountains in the background. Thanks for taking us along.

C0RLoCK

Great vid. I watched this right before bed last night and I can still hear that chanting song this morning lol... that was great mood music for the content. . This is why I love TNP, it is all so honest; more like home videos than anything else I've seen. It shows me you guys are indeed part of the people and not just actors, keep up the great work, keep having fun, and stay healthy.

Robert Plested

Full screen or split for the spotter video. Inset is just too small for me. I'm usually watching on my phone which exacerbates the situation. This is a great series BTW. Looking forward to more.

Zachary

The only reviewer on YouTube I'd ever trust. All the rest are sell outs that never give bad reviews

Josh

Nice job.

Mike R

Great series, but probably won't be getting a .224 I think if I wanted another caliper AR platform I'd get the 6.5 Grendel or step up to the 6.5 Creedmor. Also I prefer the 50-50 split screen.

Ol Retired Fed

Hang a bag of shot from the hook on the tripod of the spotting scope. It will settle out any wind shakes on the phone video. For shots that long with an AR you need at least 18 in barrel and 20 in would be better. I love how the good old custom SPR keeps showing up the competition.

Seth Ost

Nutn, what 77 load is most accurate out of your Odin build? Great video, I really enjoy the real world environment long range content!

Justin Carwile

First off, I really liked the side by side target and shooter video format. Love seeing the comparison to the standard AR with heavy pills. In my opinion, while the caliber has advantages over similar offerings in an AR platform, the niche this caliber fills isn't large enough to make it a commercial success, same as 6.8 SPC and 6.5 Grendel.

Racing Psychosis

Cool, took me about 3 sittings to get through, but I enjoyed it. Good stuff. That trench does look awesome. And F-35 fly bys, yeeha.

SteveT

Longform awesome. Can’t wait to see this.

Hold Fast Joe

Great job! A lot of work.. split screen best for me as well! Very cool

Lorenzo

what a cool, ultra-feature-length vid. Thanks!

Lorenzo

Hey, have you seen the fake NutnF YT channel that is running your vids? I can only find it if I search -NutnF-. whats worse than the theft is that this person might be answering people in comments with lies or hate.

Bill The Broken

The side by side camera setup was awesome - please continue that when it makes sense int he future. One of the neatest things in the entire series was watching the top left corner of the target camera about a second after the trigger was pulled on your SPR at 715 yds. You can LITERALLY watch the 77gr bullet trace to the target like it's a football lobbing to a receiver. Huge rainbow drop. Thank you for covering an alternative calliber so thoroughly. Man am I ever looking forward to operation grendel...😉. Gunnies...supplying TNPrs their COVID 19 sanity since 2020...

JAC

what mags are you using?

Mike R

Reading comments here and on the first part on YouTube I'd really like to see you do a review on a 6.5 Grendel in the AR platform everyone who has one seems to really like it better than a .224 valkyrie. Also Nutnfancy I know you say you don't like to have TNPPrs send you guns to review cause of the paper work, though if someone just sent you his 6.5 Grendel upper you could have that shipped to your address or Gunnies without doing any paperwork. Just a thought if someone is willing to send you their upper.

Steve

Nice! The target footage is sweet!

Robert E Lewis

I always have, and always will deeply enjoy the In Field Operations. The totality of the experience, seeing the actual real world conditions, and the great POU discussions as it happens. It's deep food for thought and that is why I keep watching TNP.

David Onate

What as the mask you were wearing (when riding/driving) in the wolverine?

Jonathan-James

Likin these vids. And I like the target cam footage.

Jason Sprague

Love the scope cam as an inset. The backdrops you all have are too beautiful to miss out on. Appreciate all the good work you are putting in!

Notmyshadow

Thanks for the part 2 video. The split screen works well. It's pretty crazy how much harder those 75's hit the steel! Definitely not a bad round choice if you want to reach out and touch something.

Outrider950

Totally awesome series !!

Craig Brown

Love the series...seeing things how they go down in the field under real conditions always has made more sense to me than sitting at a bench under controlled conditions....last time I checked no one is going to have to *rely* upon these systems when they are in a situation where controlled conditions in place. Aslo...it's ok...you can admit it NutN...you still have juice back at your previous employer...we know you can pull strings to get those flybys lol....Seriously though...that was an awesome chance encounter.

Ted C

What 77gr 5.56 were you shooting? the IMI? Whats your opinion on it since your video of shooting it off the bike?

Mike R

What size can are you using on the valkyrie is it a .30 cal can or can you use a 5.56/.223 can with it?

TomServo66

Does the can add velocity?

James Young

I read on Guns and Ammo that .224 88gr and 90gr needs a 1:6.5 twist instead of a 1:7 for the accuracy you expect. They submitted SAAMI specs for 1:7 because the 1:6.5 twist won't stabilize lighter grain bullets like the 75grains. That might explain the accuracy issue with the heavier bullets.

Daniel Herb

Glad to see it was still making the long shots in the wind! Looks like yall had plenty of fun on this one

Anotsu01

Loving these vids something very relaxing about watching the long range stuff.

Jason White

Hey Nutn, long time yet subscriber, brand new Patreon sub. I subbed now because I see you’re getting back to adventure stuff and I’m really interested in the .224 Valkyrie. I think if you played with it a bit and found an 88 grainer that would shoot accurately it would be a night and day difference and it would outshine the .223 more. If I was going to shoot it to 77 grain, I’d just use my accurized mini-14, I much prefer the way it feels to shoot a mini-14 anyway. But I’m setting up a 1000yd range and think 88 gr and above in .224 valk will be a very fun load to reload and push to the limits. Also going with a CMMG with at least a 24” barrel. anyway, very entertaining and worth every penny, thanks!
