Workhorses in TNP for many years now, here comes the updated Nutnfancy review for the Olight S2R II series.  We've used the S20s as target illuminators in the desert, for backpacking, for water use and they have not failed us in this hard use.  These are also preferred EDC lights for us...gear check me and I'll have this Olight on me 100% of the time.

Check out the improvements on the S2R: better tactility, same easy UI, TIR lens, smaller size (!), 2nd Cool blue bezel, same xlnt 18659 power cell.   Some cool versions are issued from time to time but they will be more expensive.  In the video we look at one them:  a pure copper S2R Baton II.  We'll look at more specifics and in the end you'll be glad you have one too!

We'll start off with a fun plane discussion too...long live the Pan Am Clippers!

Nutnfancy, I’ve been watching you since middle school (2008, 2009ish) when my friend showed me your tenacious video. You got me into knives, guns, backpacking, and motorcycles. You’re a big influence in my life. Also, I have this light and it is fantastic. I do have some issues buying a Chinese companies products but I don’t know of a comparable American made product (modes, headlamp, moonlight).

Todd Strelka

I've owned the Olight S2R Baton II since it's release. It's been great. I did break a clip and Olight sent me a new one. I also purchased the USB docking station to recharge on my nightstand. I got the S1R Baton II for my wife. My only complaint is the screen printing wearing off of the button.

TheOlsonOutfit

I've been using an S2R for three years. The "head-lamp trick" has been great. There only problem I've had is the charger stopped working, but I have multiple batteries and a separate charger.

Adam Dunkerley

For a potential future video, you need to check out Emisar. They're still mostly known only by the flashlight enthusiast community, but as far as I can tell -- by owning a D18 model and gifting a D4v2 to my brother for oil field use -- they're built tough. They offer different emitters -- especially warmer options, have useful wide beam patterns, feature an elegant UI, and cast big lumens. Lesser known, but AFAIK, field ready.

David Gaines

Totally agree! I’m carrying the copper limited edition at work right now! Only downside is the almost doubling in weight. Olight puts out the best products on the market, hands down.

Mr. Ed

I totally agree with this review! As an auto technician for over a decade I needed a new tough light to use in the shop and landed on the S2R q couple of years ago. Very rugged and reliable, love the magnetic base for sticking to metal surfaces, love the clip for instant headlight, and its BRIGHT! Bought a second for EDC, and paired with the identical magnetic charging capability of the PL-PRO Valkyrie on the G34 it turns out to be a really cool ecosystem to be in for lighting needs. I'm sure there are other great lights out there but I'm settled on Olight! First heard the name here too btw so thanks Nutn!

Scout154

Love these lights been using on and off the job. I have quite a collection of Olights now! Just bought the Odin and the SR2 in desert tan!

David Gaines

A lot of “American made” products take parts from overseas and throw them together real quick stateside so they can advertise that.

Charles Steimle

Can’t wait to watch. I have the limited edition purple one on the way. Also bought the ODIN special edition. Love the channel!!! My wife even now wants to listen to the philosophy vids. You’ve won her over!! Thanks for all you do.

Powernoodle

I've been in the flashlight game for 30+ years, and remember when 60 lumens out of a Surefire incan was the bomb diggity. The bulb would last 10 hours, and break if you dropped it. Fast forward to today, and 500 or 1000 LED lumens in a smaller form factor, with no incan to burn out or break, well that would have been unimaginable back in the day. I too rock rock the S2R II in vibrant limited edition green. Good times.

Eric Kelley

Nutn— you got me hooked on Olight 7 years ago.....now I have AT LEAST $3,000 worth of torches in my closet. Can’t get enough —- sliding down the slippery slope, laughing the entire way.

EdC

Great review of a great light! I have had this one for about 6 months and love it. It was originally dedicated to my emergency kit because (like you said), alot of power for reasonable weight. However, it found its way back into my pocket because it is just so awesome of an EDC light. - Thanks Nutn!

EdC

By the way, in the HPAC video, you threatened to do a review of the Olight M2R Warrior Pro... hope to see that one someday!

Schmuckatelli

I own a couple of Olights, but I'm not as big of a fan as you are. I understand they don't fail on you, and I like that, but I prefer a tail cap switch and a clip that will allow me to carry the light lens down in my pocket while also allowing me to clip it to my ball cap. That's why I'm a stage 4 gear clinger for the Streamlight ProTac series. I just wish the ProTacs were rechargeable. Major miss by Streamlight there.

Greg Malcom

I love Olight products and their customer service. I own the M2T Warrior, the M1T Raider, the S1 Baton, and some of their small lights. I reject the anti-China argument. They employ US workers and I have no beef with the Chinese people (in fact, they are wonderful in my experience), as the CCP is the problem.

Bill The Broken

Nutn I think many of us would really appreciate a review of the new ODIN. 2,000 lumens 22k candela 300m throw. Looks like an outstanding rifle mounted weapon light. Rechargable battery with what looks like a solid run time and comes with pressure pad which looks like a massive value add. Any chance of a review for the boys?

Michael Pelle

It’s not so much anti-China as it is wanting to support American or at least Western countries’ manufacturing

Greg Malcom

Michael... Roger that. 100% American made is always preferable.

Jared Madsen

Where can I find the traffic cones that fit these lights?

The Nutnfancy Project

I'll check that one out. There's so many great weapon lights. Thanks for being here Bill.

Connor Murphy

Awesome. I've been carrying these for a long time now, one of my favorite and most used pieces of gear. I just ordered a couple FDE ones and a really cool purple one from Olights website, can't wait for them to arrive.

EdC

The olight website says this light has a 23mm head. Those might be the Olight TW10 and Olight TW20 wands he has there. I see Amazon has ONE TW10 in stock. I checked Nitecore and Fenix and don't see anything in that size.

Jared Madsen

Oh, great, thank you! I didn't even realize the wands were also made by Olight. I should have looked there first.

Chris Hopper

S2r 2.. have 2 and love em both. Had to put rubber safe grease on the threads to the battery because it was squeaky which drives me insane. But dang its a handy little package that gets used at least once a day.

EdC

That's just my guess. I am not sure.

Jared Madsen

Looks like you are right. After hunting around some on the internet it is probably that TW10. It is listed as fitting another flashlight that also has a 23 mm head. That should work great for my needs! Thanks again.

Mothball556

I’ve handled the S2R II, but I prefer a tail cap switch and to carry lens down. I’ve been looking at the Fenix PD32 or LD30 instead. Does anyone have experience with either of those Fenix lights?

EdC

Like you, I prefer tail cap switch and to carry lens down. I ordered the Fenix LD30. I tried it for a little while but ended up returning it because the tail switch had memory. I wanted to the light to go on full brightness every time. I wish Olight would make a tail switch light like the Olight m1t raider plus in 18650 format. They have made it in CR123, AA, and AAA formats. An 18650 version would be awesome.

EdC

I also have the Olight M2T Warrior (now discontinued) which has a tail switch. It is a great light but a little too big for me to EDC.

EdC

In that same size is the 5.11 Rapid L2 flashlight. It runs off of two CR123. You may want to consider it if you are looking at the LD30.

Laylit

The Olight R20 could be interesting for you, as it has no memory function and a good tail cap. Starts right on the highest mode! A bit on the bigger side though.

Laylit

I own a S2R Baton 2 and the S1R2, makes a great flashlight combo for edc! I must say i like my S20R a little more. I carry it as a combo with my S1 Mini. And a M2R Pro in its holster on my belt for self defence! I do train Krav Maga and the bezel of the M2R Pro is effin Mortal Kombat!! Used to blind and hit an attacker in the hammerfist it can easily break finger bones, nose, eyeballs and the will to fight of the attacker, should the need arise. You use a Kubotan for hand to hand self defence? Throw it away and get yourself an M2R Pro!

Nathan

You should do a limited edition TNP Olight it would be sick!!!

Carl Johnson

This isn’t a comment on the video, more of a comment on the Patreon app. This app sucks balls. I pay $10 a month just to support the channel and TNP but every time I try to watch a video it never loads. On WiFi, off of WiFi doesn’t matter. Pull up YouTube, plays instantly. Super fucking annoying. Anyway, I’m sure it was a great video if only I could watch it.

Laylit

Great idea, i‘ll take one too!!

Mike

I am in for one.

Anthony Schaad

Amen, I have multiple olights n just got the new olight Odin rifle light, it’s outstanding (check it out Nutn if ya can, it’s a monster). There so much hype around other lights because there used in the service (surefire) , great products no doubt but I’ve used olights enough, banged them around, abused them n they keep working!

JRP

I have more Olights than I can count, have given dozens as gifts, couldn't be happier with all of them. Absolutely love their products!

ColdPizzaChris

I’ve stuck with a 4sevens QTLC (CR123 powered) as my EDC for many years. I like the size and it does what I need it to do. That said I picked up a bunch of Olight products during the Father’s Day sale, mostly weapons lights, and I’m impressed.

Matthew Sinn

I've been on S2Rs for years. Glad you came around to the 18650 cells Nutn (I recall a comment in a video about how hokey they are... :) ). Props on the Amazon bundles with the signal and glow in the dark cones. I don't think those are Olight's thing yet, but agree they absolutely should be bundled OEM.

Maplebrew

I’ve been renting the S1 Baton for three years now and it’s gone through hell. The blue bezel is completely removed, all the black finishes on the hot spots are polished giving it a complete badass Boba Fett look.

Kinoons

I have both a s20r and a s2r that work great. The s1R on the other hand is very frustrating. Two tail caps and two batteries later and I still have the issue (with the factory olight batteries) that the flashlight won’t wake up. After some use, but before the battery is dead, I can lock the light and it won’t wake up. Take the tail cap off and boom it works for a short period, but then it has the same issue. If I use a different cr123 battery, even other rechargeables, no issue. But then I lose the ability to recharge via the cable. Bought a second S1R thinking it was a fluke - same problem.

Tom Cairns

I've been running a baton pro for maybe 6 months. Love using it, not too big. Even ran it through the washing machine a couple times, no issues no internal rust. I think the clip should be attached with machine screws into the body of the light though, like a knife clip. I've lost one clip and popped off and bent multiple times. This time I put a drop of crazy glue and it has seemed to work. Aside from this issue it's been perfect. Use it cutting round bale strings in the dark in Canadian winters feeding cattle with the ballcap clip method and carry it over as my work light as a paramedic. Love olight and bought many products off your reviews

Mike R

Carl I had a similar problem using patreon though my problem was on safari, I couldn’t get patreon to open in safari but the app worked fine, I was using a older iOS like 10-11 at the time. I always had the app update there were several updates if you have updated your app maybe deleted and reinstall it. Or you should be able to watch on a web browser unless like I said your running a old iOS operating system I’m not sure about it if you’re using a android.

DuginIN

I’ve become an Olight addict. S2R Baton II was my favorite until the Baton PRO was released. Only slightly longer and 2000 lumens. Limited edition blue and FDE are 2nd cool. The Seeker 2 PRO limited edition blue, 3200 lumens carried in an excellent belt holster is hard to beat when you want to have maximum lighting for the size. Olight’s are great for gifts. BTW thanks for the heads up with your Nutnfancy post on Twitter. Casio PRW-50Y-1ACR.

Gregory Hines

I carry a Baton Light every day, and often use it during patient exams when I need a bright light.

Nathan P Hubsch

Bought one and an i5T Eos Gunmetal grey to go with it.

CW

Is there a nutnfancy discord?

Aaron

Okay. I’ll bite. Used the Olight website and purchased the subject light. Why not. BTW, thanks for the discount! Oh, and since the world is falling apart, they included free masks😎😉

hoplite ⚔️

Looking forward to seeing that M2R Warrior review. Wondering about your thoughts on firepower vs. mobility for it vs. the S2R on a WROL LBE setup. Thanks for showing me the importance of a flashlight in EDC. Now all the ladies in our family (sisters, wife, mother) have been gifted an Olight and a Byrd Meadowlark so they are that much more prepared for what their day brings them. Cheers 🍻 to the Nutfancy clan!

Alex Dodez

Thank you for this review. I found out about Olight through your YouTube videos before I became a Patreon supporter. I have the Mini Baton that has been discontinued, and I have the i5T EOS, and got my brother the Baton SR2. He likes it.

Foghorn

Ditto.. Love my S1. Same for me.. keep it in my pocket and its always there.

Garrett Colling

I use my special edition green S2R II in the machine shop for lighting my indicator, when I’m tramming in mills or lighting a pedestal grinder. That magnet for the charge allows me to throw it virtually anywhere on a machine. Excellent lights!

Michael Prunty

Great review Nutn! I've found that I've moved away from the 18650 lights for EDC. I keep them stashed in glove boxes, on nightstands, and in kits but for EVERYDAY Carry I really like the i5T. It disappears in a pocket and 300 lumens covers me for most tasks. Just my .02 and love the content.

Charles davis

Check out the javelot pro, it’s a thrower style light but it’s AMAZING for night work. Also there’s a Facebook page, AZ PRINTSMITH, he 3D prints diffusers for different Olights

David Elkins

Only had this and mini paran for a few days but loving both. Edge to mini paean for edc

Nancy Merrell-Robertson

Thanks, Nutn. You made me realize I need an Olight Baton S2R II. The two Olights I have are 1) smaller, lower lumens, and 2) light up the backyard so the coyotes won't jump over and get my dog when we go out one last time at night. So I need the Baton because it's the right size and much brighter than other small ones.

Andy Pask

Can you explain what you meant about “using the strobe when leaving camp”? Curious. Thanks!

Casey Jones

Nutn I use your videos as background sound to fall asleep to almost every night. It gets your view counts some padding and I get some sleep, it’s a win-win.

Nancy Merrell-Robertson

I'm always impressed with the Nutnfancy diy inventions. Very cool pvc stand for the light! Thank you for another thrilling review!

Clint Allison

I have been carrying an S2 Baton for quite some time. It's my all time favorite flashlight. That being said, the magnetic tail cap broke at about week two. Olite sent me a replacement that was non magnetic. So, I've got to take the battery out to recharge it. Not a huge deal but I really liked the magnetic tail for working on vehicles.

Clint Allison

also the lense broke and they would not send me a new one. Wanted me to download a forum, fill it out and mail it in with the light. No thanks. If I'm mailing you my light, I've got to buy another one anyway. I've since walked away from O-lite simply because of the customer service. I'm using a stream light Pro Tac 1L-1AA now. Not half the light the O-light was... but it hasn't broken on me.

jonathan ocampo

Hey try out the Fenix lights. They also have magnetic tail switches without the recharge capability (At least mine doesn’t). I have the Ld140 which is a right angle light. (Small, lightweight, cr123 battery, and the clip is legit)

JHolmes2070

I have been carrying the Nitecore NM01 for about 9 months. Its a great edc light, rechargeable. 3 light levels and I think a newer model is out now too.

Daniel Herb

Love my Olights! Been rocking S1's and S2's for years. I do prefer my S1 Baton for pocket carry over an S2 for size and weight, but S2's are in all my system kits.

Aceman1126

I agree the s2r is a fantastic light. Carry mine every day. I had one of the first gen sr2 and it had some weird issue where it wouldnt turn on correctly... some sort of controller went bad. Long story short I had to send it back. The bad thing was I sent it right before corona hit and it took like 4 or 5 months to get it back. Eventually they just sent me a brand new current gen one. So far it's been fine.

Adam T. Carlson

They have bad customer support because they asked you to fill out a form when sending in the flashlight? They probably wanted to see if there was some defect on it, especially if it's the second part that broke on it. I don't see that as unreasonable at all.

Clint Allison

I think it's unnecessary busy work on my end. This is an incredibly competitive field. Think about Vortex Optics. Their VIP warranty is literally what kept people coming back while they were still pumping out semi-garbage products for years. Their customer base is massive. And I think a big part of it is that warranty. If you want to be on top, you better have a warranty that makes people warm and fuzzy inside.

Mobius 1

How come this video is pinned at the top of your page?

Super Bob

Pinned here as well

Lucas H

I've been carrying an S1 mini everyday for 3 years now. Not one single issue. But it looks like I might have to upgrade now🤦‍♂️🤣
