I take it back to the Bunker to report on the Remington 700 these days.  It's was a checkered history in TNP which encouraged me to ignore the type for the last 8 years!  But I always want to be fair and I circled back to the 700 to see if things improved.  The choice was the best model they make: the 20" inch Magpul Enhanced version.  And I chose it in one of my favorite long range calibers ever, the 6.5 Creedmoor!  https://youtu.be/UoXF2a-Y7sM

But will this rifle screw up the ejection and feeding like past 700s?  We experienced this with multiple 700s in earlier years.  I talk about corporate tumult at Remington and how this probably made its way to the workshop.

But it seems those days are past and multiple outings show the legend of the Rem 700 is alive and well.  Multiple outings were taken and you'll see this 700 performs flawlessly and actually shot as well as a CUSTOM RIFLE (check out that 400 yard group!).   So if you need a long range bolt rifle option then time is now to again reconsider the Remington 700...a gun I grew up with!

So I’ve been in an EDC rut for quite a while. Mostly a good thing cuz it means the equipment is outstanding, but it gets boring. Need some inspiration, another EDC combos vid. How about a top 5 knife, watch, light, and carry pistol combos. No repeat items.

Greg Malcom

Is the shoulder 100% now Nutn?

The Nutnfancy Project

Not 100% but much better...this video was filmed before my surgery. Thanks a lot for asking!

W5GLS

I changed my wood stock to a hunter magpul on my old Rem 700 30-06 late last year. Very pleased ....It now shoots sub MOA . BTW , I like the KUHL line of clothing...perfect option for “ gray man” wear . Thanks for sharing Nutn! W5GLS

IndianaBen

Sadly the watches turn guys off I guess

Tex

Hey, thoughts on the kinetic-tech? Been considering a redirector for my hunting rig, 6.5 patriot with in a laminate stock. Side question from the open carry video, any suggestions on knifes to carry weak side? Been eyeing the FDE TDI? Thanks and totally digging the bolt action videos.

Greg Malcom

Sure. Continued healing blessings to you. As my old boss used to say, "Getting old ain't for sissies."

Josh P.

First gun I bought in my own when I got to college for recreation and hunting was the 20" blacked out hogue stock Remington 700 sps. I ve had nothing but good results from shooting. All Ive upgraded til this point is an enlarged bolt knob and its polymer. And I've banged this gun up while deer hunting g and haven't had any issues. Love my 700, lucky to have bo issues so far.

Nancy Merrell-Robertson

Thanks to Ben's question I was able to watch the TOP TNP EDC KNIFE/WATCH COMBOS: BUNKER! from 2019. Maybe it slipped in under the radar, but of course I loved it, learned from it, and enjoyed you and TD immensely. Thanks Nutnfancy for sharing the love with us!

RowdyRon

Nice looking rifle. The price doesn't seem too out of line either. Glad to hear that Remington is getting their mojo back. I think I'd go with an AR10 in .308 though. Donor with a boner :)

James A. Goins

The get a boner be a donor comment killed me. I woke up my son who was napping from laughing so hard. Lol great vid Nutn, I’m still running my TC compass in 6.5 creed because your review

Jacob Hurst

Makes me want to look at Remington again. Do you think the quality is going up across all of the Remington lines?

Tacticaldoodle

That is....a large spread to assume. It really seems like it's devolved like many other industries and issues. Cost cutting, loss of skilled personnel, overall cuts to the breadth of talent and a lack of attention to detail all come into play. I think they had some turnover over time and from reports from the floor it was terminally mismanaged. It's almost baffling how anyone could dick up a bolt gun but there are enough tolerances they could slightly botch all at once to cause problems. I think if you get one, treat it like any other lower-end or mid-grade firearm and run it through the paces to get a feel for funciton and favorite flavors of ammo. I wouldn't set one up with glass, boresight it, and assume I'm holding a superSWAT sniper suite.

Tacticaldoodle

Wanna know what the odd, inscrutably odd new EDC item I'm addicted to? https://amzn.to/3fIyfrl It's dumb, but they're damn useful if you're stuck without AC or want something to play with in a place it's unbecoming to be playing with a knife. Plus you can hold it over your face and giggle when one of the courtesans accidentally offends the emperor! jokes on him, because I'm no longer sweating with my fan while he's being beheaded in front of three generations of his family.

Matt Mcdonnell

Just got a 308 700 adl tactical last month, put a Magpul 700 with a can and it’s shooting as good as yours. No break in either, Love it!

Rob B

I had a Ruger American Predator (heavier contour, threaded, 18” barrel) in 308 that I bought new for $350. The green, plastic, factory stock was GARBAGE, but it had an adjustable trigger and it shot 1.5MOA. Bought one of these Magpul stocks & dropped the action in it in 15 minutes on the kitchen table. Now I have an awesome 1 MOA gun for <$700 (not including the glass). Unless it’s an heirloom gun, there is no reason not to move a good bolt gun to one these stocks. They just improve the gun in every way.

Red dog 1

Really "get a boner, be a doner" sigh......

Rob B

TD, does it come in FDE or black? I bet you could get a few of the YouTube gun guys to review it positively if you offered them enough money.

Tacticaldoodle

I surprise people with how often I push them towards an AR-10 for so many purposes. Unless you really want a lighter or hunter setup, there are too many advantages with a SAPR. Bolt guns will always have their own romance, but the AR platform is developing fast. Like always the answer is really "why not both?" which applies to almost all firearms.

Tom Cairns

Great video and a sweet rifle. During competitive options you didn't mention the bergara b14 hmr which I had thought you were previously high on? I really like mine, just checking to see if it's absence was an oversight or if you've had negative experiences of late?

IndianaBen

For sure, absolute direct competitors. The HMR I've had a chance to test was easily MOA with match ammo, but was surprisingly loose with cheaper stuff like Hornady American Gunner. Heavier 6.5 bench guns can still put that affordable stuff into MOA. Hard to cheat physics with lighter rigs, still a great, versatile rifle.

rediius

I have an EDC "station" where I pick out my loadout for the day (I have very different jobs and hobbies), and soon I'll have a configuration to be the prettiest belle at the ball.

Allen gray

And nobody has 1 in stock

Paul Griech

I have the Remington 700 in 308 243 223 the magpul has a vortex viper 6.5x20 I bought it when it first came out I really wanted 6.5 but 308 is pretty solid I love it tack driver with my handload recipe.

Nicolas Royston

Need to check out the Sig Cross! 6 1/2 pounds for 308 16inch. 7 lbs for 6.5 with 18inch.

Kenny Bridges

Actually just purchased the 24inch 5R gen 2 r700 with the 24inch barrel. Hoping it’s as accurate as yours is ☺️

Aaron Martin

I gotta find find some land to go shoot on.

Insatiable Mind

I want that knife! I love kukri blades. I’m looking for a link.

Mike R

For 2nd cool I really like the looks of 700 with the magpul stock. I’ve been wanting maybe a 300 WM and my buddy wants a .308 for kind of WROL value long range bolt gun. Between the Magpul Rem 700 and the Savage 110 models in a tactical type setup which do you recommend or is it a flip of the coin and choose whichever I prefer? Thanks Nutn!

Patrick Brichta

I'm kind of hit-or-miss about Remington, but I really like what you had to say about the Magpul chassis. I actually just picked up a Ruger American predator in 308, the stock is okay, but I've really been looking at dropping it into one of the Magpul stocks, and I'm really happy to hear that you found that to be a great stock. I think I'm a walkway with one of those guys instead.. Thanks for the great video! Keep up the great work we appreciate it

James Young

That's an interesting gun for sure.

The Nutnfancy Project

I think you're on the right track setting the action into a Magpul Hunter. It's a great stock and for me it's special; hits all the right ergos. Let us know how that Ruger shoots, I'm curious if you get sub MOA. Thanks Patrick.

The Nutnfancy Project

300WM is punishing to shoot and it's $$. I would go with 6.5 Creed for reason indicated or even .308. Ask yourself your realistic max range and target type. That last part is important too. The Savage is an animal I love it. I really like the magazine and how it worked on this 700 though. I actually bought this gun and I rec you do the same. Rem by a slight edge (better stock too).

Scott Priestley

Bergara HMR 6.5 Creedmoor all day long. Would love to see you get your hands on one of those! The barrels are superior, the stock is even more rigid than the Magpul and has more adjustability. It's right around $750 street price right now compared to the Remington 700 Magpul which is around $1150.

Scott Priestley

Would also love to see you do reviews of the new McMillan MC3 stocks - great option for Rem700 footprint actions to add detachable box magazine (DBM) and the great McMillan A5 design for about $300 and includes an MDT polymer mag! Another one I'd love to see you review is the KRG Bravo stock - another great option for many different bolt actions including Remington, Tikka and Howa for about $350.

Insatiable Mind

Thank you! I just ordered the Rajah II and the Spartan Kopis Tri-Ad through that link.

Rob B

Patrick, I have that exact gun and put it in the Magpul stock. For me it was definitely worth the $. Makes it a completely different gun. Definitely heavier, but shoots tighter groups. Works great for blind or stand hunting, but not so much for carrying around for long distances. Take advantage of having the action out to lighten up the trigger too. Good luck.

Ricky Kurtz

Hey LTC, Excellent, Excellent presentation !!!!! I am a long range shooter. Sniper Trained by LAPD SWAT members via ITTS Gun Fighting School in Los Angeles staffed only by LAPD firearms instructors and SWAT Operators. I use the a 20” and 26” Remington 700 PSS where the barrel and action have been cryogenically treated with 1.2 lbs trigger shooting at 1000 yards using a Leupold Mark 4 Scope on each rifle and accurized by a gunsmith / metallurgist. These PSSs are .56 MOA at 100 yards. Well, that’s what I can shoot on a good day, I’m sure the rifle can shoot way better than me. I roll my own cartridges for each rifle. These rifles are about 30 years old. The stocks a are of a composite material with an embedded aluminum chassis and has a 5 round box magazine which was the standard back then. I have trained with these rifles for years. I love them very much. These new Magpul Remington 700s look terrific based on your presentation I will look into purchasing one. Thank so much for all your hard work, I always learn something from your presentations. FYI - The loads use are .308 168 grain BTHP using Varget powder. Ricky from IBM

Patrick Brichta

Hey Rob, that's great advice. I was looking at the Timminey triggers actually. Good to hear that about the weight. I hunt in high elevation and primarily hike everywhere when hunting, and long distance too. That kinda gives me a pause about the stock then. Any idea at total with when assembled?

Mike R

I have a 18.5” AR in 308 so like you were saying I’d grab that SAPR in the same role vs a 308 bolt gun. I actually was looking at a 338 Lapua for extra long range, which where I live I do have the ability to shoot out that far. I reload so the cost of the 300 WM is less of a issue and I started leaning that way vs the 338 since I already have lots .30 cal bullets for reloading. Plus getting a .30 cal can will fill a lot of roles for me already if I went 300 vs 338 plus the 300 would be slightly less punishing than the 338 though yes still a handful.

Jerome J

As a TNPer, you remember some reviews more than others over the years. I have watched some several times. I don’t buy a gun Nutn hasn’t reviewed and recommended. I have to say, this review brings it home for me. Somehow. I always liked the 700 and it’s history and I wanted to get one but I have to admit I held off because of what Nutn had said about this rifle. I had an awesome time watching this review and I will probably get this rifle before the year’s over. Maybe in 308 but I think I will actually give 6.5 a try actually. Thank you.

Tacticaldoodle

If I were looking, I'd kinda start trolling local pawn shops and such to see if someone turned in an older used one. Unless you love it as-is new and you won't swap nothing, most guys end up changing enough around they're basically only wanting the receiver. Grabbing a cheap 700 that's made in Remington's heyday would be cool, even more when you give it new life and toss on a sweet magpul stock.

Trustful Marksman

I watched the 1917 review Nutn. The old school gun reviews are my favorites.

Zachary Patterson

I Know there are so many competitive options out there, but I am a bit disappointed the Bergara did not Get any love in the competitive options. I bought the B14 last year and it shoots well within 1MOA, the trigger is amazing, and it is well equipped for the price.

The Nutnfancy Project

Oh I love the Begara 14, reviewed it. It was just I didnt think of it at the time. I believe 1 MOA for sure. I want to review another sometime.
