We are going to circle back to some 1911 reviews in TNP!  Here's the first:  The Enhanced Micro Pistol by Springfield Armory.  It's chambered in 9mm, the first of its type reviewed here.  Look closely and you'll see the EMP4 is NOT like the other 9mm 1911s.  I'll tell you how it's different in the video.

At the time of posting several cool variations were offered.  I chose the "Lightweight Champion" bobbed grip in two-tone, leaving the FDE version on the table (what?!).  Several desert expeditions ensued and we quickly grew fond of the EMP4.

A fun insight to Grandaddy Nutnfancy will kick of the review.  He was actually a 1911 carry guy!  Back in the 70s and 80s reliable carry guns were limited...I'll discuss some here!  Then I ask the question if Dad would go for this EMP4 if he were alive today (he was killed in our plane in 1984, lost early in my life).

You might find the answer intriguing! In the end you may love this EMP4 as much as we did and you'll have to get busy finding a need for it!

Your dad looks like Garand Thumb 😂😂😂

JL10W

I like it, a GRV outside the norm and group think. Looking forward to watch this one.

Pedro

During the Covid gun sales 1911 oddly are found on shelf, be it price or for many other reasons. I’ll definitely take a 1911 over no carrying at all, especially today’s 1911. However a 1911 will never replace my PPQ Q5 match as a carry gun.

Scout154

As a gun lover, I love a 1911. They have been excellent handguns for decades now. I would love to have a few 1911s im my collection. There is something sexy about a 1911! Great vid Nutn

Pedro

It ya changed my pistol standards. Now pistols have a high bar to meet. If you get a chance try a Q5 match, basically the product improved PPQ long slide.

Thank's for another awesome GRV Nutn. I ran into a TNP'R working the gun counter at my local Bass Pro Shop here in Michigan. He recognized my TNP shark hat that I I happened to be waring that day. It was really cool running into him like that completely randomly. He asked me if I was carrying a blade on me. So we ended up having our own gear check with each other. The only thing he didn't have was a gun on him. I was really impressed we both had Olight S2Rs lol. I ended up going back the next day to give him some TNP stickers and a couple patches.

RobK

I will stick with my pair of Star BM 9mm's they were being importing not long ago. got mine for $200

The Nutnfancy Project

Nice story Michael! Thanks for that. Glad you guys were prepped up; sans gun for the other guy. The Olight remains my daily carry for sure. Thanks for the sticker giveway too!

Michael B warner

Go figure a guy working a gun counter selling guns. For some reason isn't allowed to carry his gun that makes sense. I forgave him and gave him a pass for not having it lol.

Red dog 1

Nutn your sound effects are awesome!!!

Todd Strelka

Fun video. Nice gun. 1911's are smooth shooting for sure. I come here for the stories!

RowdyRon

One of your best videos to date. All kinds of goodness in here! I carried the SA 1911 Range Officer Compact (.45acp) for quite a while, but evolved to the SA XD Mod.2 .45 Sub-Compact - my daily carry for a long time now. Love me some HST +P in that thing. That Glycine is possibly the best watch you've shown on the channel. Your Dad was styling on that Norton!! Sick! Loved this video. Thanks Nutn.

Steven Schaffner

Thanks for sharing your Dad with us! I love your stories about growing up. Lost my Dad on June 9th. Rock on!!

Lon N

Awesome GRV, thanks Nutn. Love me some 1911's, & carry a Kimber Ultra Carry I bought in 1997 or 98. I looked at the assortment of 9mm 1911's for a while searching for something a little more compact for summer use, but ended up buying a Ruger EC9s for it's thinner profile (after watching a Nutn GRV on the Lc9S). Keep the quality rolling Nutn, it is much appreciated.

Casey Jones

I agree with the sentiment of 'not wanting to add another caliber'. I pitched my .40 and .45acp last year to focus on 9mm stacking that ammo deeper. Wow, that was a good call considering how 2020 has went. I do like the other calibers, and maybe in the future I'll reinvest in them in a limited capacity. I do want a nice 1911 in my collection, mainly out of 2nd cool.

bcbrin

Springfield Armory EMP4 is a DBC (Double Box Checker) First Cool - Check! Second Cool - Check!

Scott K

Probably have 30 toys purchased from Gunnies

Nicolas Royston

Time to make some coffee and settle down on the couch for some 1911 grv! More please!

Greg Malcom

Condolences bro. Lost my dad in '05. He was an Air Force officer too so Nutn's stories remind me of him.

Aaron Martin

Yeah buddy! I’ve got a RO Compact 9mm and it is easily one of my favorite guns to shoot. Not reliable enough to use for defensive purposes but there isn’t anything else that feels as good or shoots as good as a 1911 IMO.

Racing Psychosis

Really enjoyed that video even though the closest I will get to that gun will likely be the good ole XDS in 9mm. Simply love that pistol, will never get rid of it, even though I replaced it carry wise with a G43 and then the Hellcat. But loved the TNP story time. And the answer is no on the carry of the EMP4, I would still go XDS over it, and certainly the Hellcat. And the answer is no on home defense. Fun gun sure. Collection, no, too many cowboy revolvers that I would rather have.

Racing Psychosis

Oh and stock around here, is horrible right now. Oh and you are right I would have loved to have had a Sonny Crockett .45 ACP Detonics Combat-Master backup gun. I thought that was so cool as a teenager during the Miami Vice run.

Devin Heald

Reminds me if how browning shrunk down the 380 1911 in size. Wife loves the "mini" 1911

Pistolette504

I much rather the standard EMP 3 over the Contour. Just too thin. Beautiful, but I didn't like the feel in hand. Very accurate though.

Zack

G43x with the flush fit S15 mags is my daily carry, fully loaded 15+1 is still lighter than that thing empty. Still think its a beautiful gun though.

Arthur Krieger

Awesome gun, awesome review. If I had any need I'd go for it, but my Colt Government Competition serves me perfectly well as my 1911-format range toy... for now

Mobius 1

The Star BM was the first gun I ever purchased and it's served me very well in conceal carry!

Douglas Berger

Hit the nail on the head with not wanting to start another caliber stash. Been looking at 9mm 1911s for a little bit now, but looking at the SA Ronin.

Daniel Gray Webb

Lot of other guns I would buy for 1k before that one, and if I am already spending 1k I might look at something a little more expensive. If I'm getting a 9mm 1911 clone I would get something else that has more 2nd cool, which is what I have done. I collect and regularly carry aluminum and steel frame stuff from the 50's to the 80's, I like stuff with second cool. I'm going to agree with Grandpa Nutn, if I am going for a modern pistol I want modern technology. Now if I was going for a modern 1911 it better be a totally tricked out competition capable pistol, and I would spend the money on it.

Beck

I like the FDE one

Joshua S

I prefer the look of the Champion w/o the contour and with the Cocobolo grip.

Trey

I am with grand pa Nutn. I can see the SIG 365 XL as something I want to intergrate.

Daniel Gray Webb

You might be surprised how many semi automatic pistols made between the 50's and 80's fit a 1911 Jackass Galco shoulder holster.

HappyFrancisMacomber

I’m almost always two tone cocobolo... have the sig 1911 STX with maple grips. Bought the Sig with my first big man job bonus and will never give it up. In this Springfield gun, the FDE speaks louder! For the price, there’s just so many competitive options - you’d have to love this one. Prob a dream to carry IWB.

Guy Actual

The GranNutn Pistol!! This has to be awesome!!!

Tacticaldoodle

I'm liking it more and more. If it weren't for the mag commonality between my 34/26 combo I'd be rockin' one already

Hangfire

Covid scamdemic! 17:45 diet coke through the nose lol Note to self, never drink anything while watching nutn videos...

The Nutnfancy Project

Yep, Covid is out there for sure but I do not believe the numbers anymore after I've done a lot of research. They just want to kill jobs, get people addicted to govt payouts to not work, and to have Trump lose. Such nonsense. I do see pushback on it which is good.

MCatl

Thanks for rolling in the photo of your dad next to the Cessna 172. I still remember the last three characters of one my dad frequently took me up in when I was a kid in the early '70s.-- Seven Four Yankee. He also introduced me to the 1911, a real WWI surplus Colt, back before they were collectible. I'd love to know where that gun is now.

Lon N

And a day later I get a e - flyer from J&G Sales featuring Star BM 9mm's starting at $250. Do they TNP dude?

Lon N

Yes RP, the Detonics and their .451 Detonics "improved" 45 ACP. And it also induced memories of the ASP, a chopped and channeled custom concealed carry version of the S&W Model 39 I lusted after as a youngster. The good old days.

The Nutnfancy Project

Hello Rowdy! Thanks much for your kind comments. I liked how it turned out and it's a good blend of story time, remembering Dad and his awesomeness, and letting the world know how xlnt the EMP4 is.

The Nutnfancy Project

Hello MCat!, you bet. Indeed I wish we could know where all the momento guns of our lives ended up. An accompanying SD card with each gun and its experiences would be awesome.

Taylor O'Neill

I conceal carry a Star BM that I got from J&G. I got it when they were $200 and got a couple spare mags. Pros: It was cheap, reliable, 9mm, historically cool (Rhodesians), shootable, THIN (super thin). Biggest cons: HEAVY (very heavy), barrel link stress (buy extras from brownells), other spare parts. I think I’m kinda like TD. I’m just a Dumbass civilian, so I like to carry something that makes my happy, but also something that I can shoot well just in case. I know nutn will hate it because of SAWC but I know when I pull the trigger it goes bang and if I’m packing around a big chunk of steel, I want it to put a smile on my face.

EthanRX

I don't carry a 1911, but I do rotate between a Gen4 G19 and a P229 Elite for carry even here in FL. Big enough shirt, I rock the P229 because I love the gun and shoot it well. Smaller tee shirt, its P938 time and it feels like I have nothing on me of course since I'm used to the heavier guns. Thanks for the vid, Nutn!

Porter3861

Great review! I've been eye-balling the SA 1911's in 9mm for about a year now. The first six months I CCW'd over ten years ago, I carried a SA 1911 light weight compact (4" bbl) in .45ACP w/ 230grn JHP. The pistol was a tac driver but I think the second kind of cool is what really had me carrying it. Then I transitioned to Khar CM9 and now a Sig 365. They are lighter, easier to conceal, and more bullets for pew-pew.

Zachary Patterson

Great review, I always have a sweet spot for 1911 style pistols. I have a kimber Agis Pro in 9mm. Definitely a really awesome color scheme, (check it out some time) and so much fun to shoot these 9mm 1911s, I can get one ragged hole at 15 yds standing
