Microtech Stitch Auto: I Hate This Thing

Comments

Greg Malcom

KRV, yes!! Thanks Nutn! I would not buy that blade. Would get a Socom. Have an UltraTech.

JARMYSTRONG

Normally we say RANT RANT RANT but now I feel bad it's a fellow TNP'r!

Zak Orendorff

I’m not gonna lie, your amphibians gave me a little bit of wood.

Mitch Maris

it looks quality, but weight is not good for me. Thanks for the review

Micahbraedon

Thoughts on Eafengrow knives? Available on Amazon they have copies of Microtech and Pro-tech no doubt Chinese made for around $30. Versions of Socom, Infidel and Strider. An option for a beater knife or to scratch the itch for a fraction of the price to see if you like the form factor. Similar to buying a Smael before a Master of G series G-Shock.

Adam Boyd

I actually like the looks of that knife. No plans to buy any Microtech, but I like it.

Hans O Perfect

I agree with with the critique it does look like a fantasy knife. A knife a Dungeons and Dragons player would like.

Lon N

I hope Kelly has a butt bandage in his IFAK. ;-) Would I buy one...nope.

Mike R

Yeah the Stitch isn’t my cup of tea. I love my Socom though I have a manual, but I want to get a auto at some point also. I HEC it as well.

Todd Strelka

The blade reminds me of one of the tips of Ted Nugent's archery arrows. Great review, I'm not interested in that knife either. Not into fantasy blades. Thanks for sharing Kelly!

Racing Psychosis

LOL, good grief. Add a Keltec bullpup and a Chiappa Rhino for a side arm and you have a Fantastical Modern Day LARPer.

Bear Independent

That knife is basically worthless to me, considering what I actually use my knives for; i.e- not fantasy.

Nathan P Hubsch

I'm not really willing to spend that kind of dough on Microtechs to begin with. The 2012 TNP Microtech being a rare exception. They're over priced and hard to sharpen, I don't see the reason why they're so expensive. The vast majority of my knives are under the $100 price point and at this point the knife has to be better than the Honey Badger or the Daggerr Knives Sting/Condor for me to buy it.

Shawn Kuse

Yuck. Ugly knife. Still waiting on the Socom Delta Elites to get back into stock!

Jbocajs .

I Love the blade shape! But the handle is bland, also not a microtech fan.

RowdyRon

Looks kind of "mall ninja". Not my style, but I get it. I just picked up a Protech CQC7, and a Protech Godfather for about the price of the Microtech Stitch. Cool review though. I love checking out other blades. Thanks Nutn!

Michael Szymborski

I’m a fanboy but I dig this knife. Don’t disagree with anything you said but I’m pulling out the 2nd cool card! I just picked up a Combat Troodon and it’s a little on the big side for EDC but I love the design and action.

Joshua Wilson

7 days, 2 knife vids, 1 watch vid, and a gun vid, awesome! Thank you for all of the hard work Nutn!

Jonathan-James

Knife looks fun. But I cant afford fun at that price. Kudos to Kelly for providing it for the review. Its different I like that.

Dom

I hate it too. Just the look of it is offensive.

Brad Fegan

The looks of the knife turned me off too. But, I have to admit I prefer ProTech knives. More specifically TR-4 and TR-5 auto knives

J Ram

Yeah, 2nd cool fantasy knife. I can see it being a buy for a "kid" who's in to that sort of thing. Heck I'm a Star Trek fan and would love to own a Klingon Bat'leth sword or a D'k tahg dagger....something to buy and put in my display case...not to carry EDC or take camping with me.

Rob B

Speaking of cool knives, the Civivi Kepler just dropped at Blade HQ. Sweet looking fixed blade under $90.

DuginIN

Blade HQ has the Daggerr Knives Sting in stock.

Kelly McClellan

It’s my knife, I love it. 2nd cool for days. It’s totally fantasy, and that’s why I love it. It will never be sold. It also would not loose value, they sell out in minutes whenever they get to BHQ. I appreciate you giving your honest opinion and not holding back, but on this one we will have to agree to disagree. Excited to see what you think about the other 3 I sent!

Patrick Richards

Nice B2 Spirit in the background (my favorite plain ever) Any thoughts on the new B21 Raider?

David Spinks

I'm with you Kelly. I have the Stitch in Urban Camo and I adore it. I own dozens of Microtechs, and I've never bought a single one thinking "what a utilitarian blade". Like you, I'm also not worried about them depreciating.

Kelly McClellan

Agreed David. Also, I’m jealous of the urban camo. Didn’t even know that was a thing! Half of my knife collection is 2nd cool. And I’m fine with that. I’d love for you to post a pic in the community section of your MTs if you get a chance. I’m a big fan.

Logan Holmberg

Bleh. I've been going more gentlemen knives lately like the Boker urban trapper or the CRKT CEO flipper. Right now I'm saving up for a fontenille-pataud Le Thiers Nature in walnut. A mouthful but it's not too expensive that I wouldn't EDC it. It's just too bad it's considered sacrilege to put something like a pocket clip on these french knives. Ah well at least the RCMP can't confiscate it. Its not a one handed fliper. 😤😡

whiskey papa

Thanks for turning me into a knife snob. (lol) I like my EDC knives light now. I've retired my heavy Tenacious in favor of a feather-weight Delica and couldn't be happier.

Pedro

To me the blade profile looks ideal for whittling and small wood carving.

Guy Actual

This what happens when a Spyderco Yojimbo starts smoking crack with Hunter Biden! I would be interested to see how it handles in a food prep situation. The blade forward design does give it a bit of efficiency as a fighting knife, but the release button I think would be triggered as someone gripped it in a proper fighting grip. The semi harpoon barb might give it some ability to be lashed to a stick as a fishing harpoon, but seems like a very singular use case. At 6.3oz its a bit heavy to pack when on foot, so I dont see it around should you want to hit the trails. I bet its amazing at cutting carpet if you are an installer, but the M390 edge will wear faster than say a ZDP-189 (Which is a bitch to sharpen, but dam if it don't take a wicked edge) Overall, there is a world of other knives that one could choose from that would serve better purpose, It just is not a blade that I would ever purchase or carry. BUT This blade is all about the second cool, and for that I have to give it props. A fantasy blade made by microtech is going to hold strong for years and years and sometimes you just love something.

Bravo

Hey nutn, I’m looking into the cold steel Recon 1 and Voyager and iv seen your reviews, but I want to see you thump on em. Which adventure vids would I find that in.

Paul Kwiatkowski

I have cut myself enough already, nothing slippery thanks.

Paul Kwiatkowski

the honey badger tuxedo has good texture but the aluminum sided lion steel ROK is too slick, beautiful to look at though and the blade locks open with a twist

Adam Boyd

I don't remember the title, but I'm pretty sure I've seen him batoning with the XL Recon 1

The Nutnfancy Project

I think they should build 500 lower cost bombers. Not necessarily stealth either. We just don't have enough to cover a dual theater war. B21 will be like the B2: ultra expensive, few units, not enough of them.

The Nutnfancy Project

Correct on all accounts. It is like a Yojimbo. But being Microtech, guys will always want it...ok maybe not this one, but others!

Guy Actual

BDU just released a Grey/Orange with a black blade of CPM20v that looks really good, but at $340s in us dollars, its just outside of my price range. Its difficult to spend that type of cash on a carry knife, when there are so many OTFs of quality for so much less. I have a Hogue G10 OTF that is amazing for around 200 and its amazing. I am interested in the VZ G10 knives that are meant for self defense, and to pass through metal detectors. (Probably not TSA as they use x-ray, but buildings that have you walk through, I like the idea.

Andrettski

I bought 4 of them sent 3 back. I kept the EF916. Didn't like the EF204 or the EF55. I think Eafengrow sucked me in with the "appearance" on screen, but feel like heavy pieces of crap. I'd recom. for budget Ganzo, QSP or CRKT. BIG + with Amazon though is just send'em back if you don't like'em.

Tacticaldoodle

I once heard a girl describe klingons as "a stand-in for trump voters on the show". Guess those new star trek series don't quite fit in with their predecessors....

Tacticaldoodle

Eh, I could get behind it but the scales are just so....non collectible. It's like they took the form of a high end, unique folder, but put it together like a damn checkout-stand poly handled cheapo. I have a hard enough time not laughing at the price of a griptilian, why would this get a pass?

Tacticaldoodle

It's too bad I wasn't in this one, I would've been more on board. I think it'd be a solid addition to an MT collection with less utilitarian scales, like the carbon fiber Marfione custom out there. As-is you can use it without fear, at least, so it's probably a fine carrier for normal daily jammin'. Thanks for sending it!

Kelly McClellan

I agree with you TD. It would be cooler with fancier scales. But I kinda beat on this one. I don’t carry it every day, but once a week or so. I couldn’t get myself to carry a marifone custom.

Josh P.

Interesting blade, not my cup of tea, I like simple knives. Boker ak is my go to auto
