Let's go ride the PCH. Sean the TNPr rides out with me too!

Unlike probably most moto vlogs you might watch, this is a bit deeper. Yep I'll make mention of the sights we pass, we'll talk about the FJRs, some but it's focused on several key philosophies. This is a great way to get out the information. I'll give you my 2 part safety approach to riding, I've never seen moto safety broken down like this. I'll give you some examples while we ride.

Then I'll give some thoughts of dude friendship and how it works for me.  Maybe you can relate. I'll note the people/crew you've seen in years past of TNP are not true friends (Like BuggetNuster: absent in Patreon, I never hear from them, they never watch the vids, they don't want to be in the vids, and they don't make time for real adventures like this).  Rants!

Time should pass quickly again on this one...oh yeah you'll see some 'first aid' at the end too!

I've never had a ride or die person in my life. Im 56 yrs old. Not sure if I could handle it.

Pedro

Friendships definitely are strengthened when riding together

Todd Strelka

I don't ride motorcycles but enjoy these videos. That gray Yamaha FJR with gold wheels reminds me of "Killer" the 350Z. Your philosophy is spot on. My wife's favorite hobby is talking on the phone with her girlfriends, ha! Yeah, I like to hang out and chat too, but it's more fun doing stuff. My wife actually encourages me to get out with the guys and do stuff. She knows it's a healthy thing. Sure I make time for her and the kids too, but I need to get out more with the guys. I'll be going fishing with a friend within the next couple of weeks and another friend and I are planning on going shooting in the desert soon. I enjoy camping with friends and family and it's fun to get out there and explore. Nutnfancy, I think all of us consider you a friend. Thank you for sharing your life adventures with us. Fun video.

David and Elizabeth

Friends like Sean are hard to come by. But like any other relationship, you get what you give. Awesome bromantic moto getaway. 😁👍 ❤❤❤ -David, Elizabeth, and little Jessica

Shawn Kuse

I ride all year round here in VA as long as the roads are not icy, slippery. The Goldwing helps with loving to ride!

Joe Shotgunner

I've always wanted a bike, but I can only imagine how much crap my buddies would give me if I had an auto shifting scoot! 😂 Unfortunately I didn't start young enough on dirt bikes and such, so I'm really not very comfortable on any kind of motorcycle. I'm hoping to get good on a dirt bike, and maybe someday I'll be comfortable enough to get out on the road. Honestly I'm more worried about the cars on the road that don't pay attention

Charles New

Love the FJR , great bike for the money. I've been leaving cheap bikes on the other side of the US since 1995 in storage units, get out with friends and my kids. Epic times for sure. Maybe switching to overland type vehicle soon , but either way " get out and adventure" is great advice.

Hold Fast Joe

Start with something light and a little peppy but not too nuts. Not all bikes are built to go 180mph and that's fine. No one will be laughing at a 125cc when gas is $6 a gallon and your getting 75mpg cruising in the country for fun while they're conserving fuel can't afford to get out anymore

Hold Fast Joe

Oh side note, if you do this often those bikes will come with a 3 gallon tank.. do yourself a favor and get a half gallon gas can to strap on it somewhere. Not that I've ever ran out of fuel.. in the middle of no where.. nope..

Matt

Ive got a black Harley that I love to ride, but I always ride alone.

Joe Shotgunner

I think I would like to go the super Moto route! I love Harley's and someday wouldn't mind even having a chopper, but I have a bad back so picking up a heavy bagger or something if laid down would be next to impossible for me. Plus I like the idea of taking the bike offroad a little.

Schmuckatelli

I used to be into mountain biking, but then I quit and got fat. Now I am trying to lose the weight and get back in shape. My point is the mountain biking was my guy-adventure activity that I would do with friends. I miss that, and I'm working hard right now to get that back in my life.

Owen Christy Jr

@Hold Fast Joe I recently discovered that an MSR fuel bottle will fit into an RV fire extinguisher mount.

Adam Boyd

These videos help me since I'm between motorcycles for now. Great content! 👍

Pedro

Those wings are slower and heavy by bike standards but it’s the undefeated king of long mile comfort. The wing can’t be beat for smoothness

Pedro

Start on a 250 ninja. They are super cheap to buy used, you can sell them for what you paid basically, and they are superb teachers. They teach you ride mechanics and how to communicate with the bike.

Jake Harvey

Buying a dual sport motorcycle changed my life!

Shawn Kuse

I have the 2018 DCT Goldwing and let me tell you 6 cylinders in Sport Mode will pull your arms off and not slow at all. Yes, around 900 pounds, she is a heavy girl, but awesome to ride!

The Nutnfancy Project

"My wife actually encourages me to get out with the guys and do stuff. She knows it's a healthy thing. Sure I make time for her and the kids too, but I need to get out more with the guys." Great comment as always Todd and you get it. Great you're getting out and the wife is supportive! And yes I'm your friend too!

The Nutnfancy Project

Thank you DEJ, thanks for coming out to the video. I will be reading all the names that dropped comments in my next narrated moto vid!

The Nutnfancy Project

That K1600 GTL I've been riding is also a monster but oh so smoooth on the highway, love it. Wish it had a reverse like the Wing.

David Gaines

As someone who has no interest in motorcycles (seen too many bad outcomes in the Emergency Department ) am I still gonna watch this? You bet!

Tacticaldoodle

If you stay off of the highway and interstate. Even that lil' supermoto'd 350 KTM with 35 horsepower left me wanting when doing higher speed riding. I think there's a minimum power necessary for interstate riding for safety. Power lets you get ahead of hostile traffic patterns, and underpowered bikes remove 1/4 of the available escape routes for you. It happened often enough where I was hemmed in left and right, forced into a merge/construction/etc and left at the mercy of people behind me seeing and allowing me in. With sufficient power, you can punch it and choose your traffic slot, with better visibility as you're headed up into position. I started out on that little Husqvarna Te250 dual sport and it left me wanting. Then we did the 350 KTM, which was much better overall, but still underpowered for commuting to the trail system. The EXC 500 does it very well, though, and that's somewhere like 50hp. You ideally start with lower power so you can get a feel for wrapping it out and applying that power, but a good, sober, non-panicking adult should be able to learn the power curve even in something relatively overpowered for a beginner. My old boss bought a grom when it came out, I think he almost got tagged four times in the first week. He just couldn't keep up in traffic downtown, and they'd think the space in his lane was entirely free when all the stopped traffic plodded along when the light turns green. The grom is a fun lil' monkey stunt bike, but dang- NINE horsepower? Oofa-magoof!

Tacticaldoodle

We got such a good deal on that Feej, all because that paddle shift looked like an auto for everyone. I grew to love it, reminds me of that older Porsche/ PDK they used to have with single clutch. If you just use your foot and time everything like manual, it's no different from doing clutchless upshifts on any other bike. Best of all? The tranny locks when shut off, so you can lock the steering and make it impossible to move easily. Not that anyone's wanting to steel the supersonic sofa, but still......

Tacticaldoodle

Dude, MTB stuff is absolutely bananas. Been looking to replace my 3x9 drivetrain and the industry is still freaky from all the surprise buys last year. Not to mention costs have just kept screaming upwards. You got people buying bikes with fewer gears than 10 years prior, hardtails, that have the same financing as a damn car!

Joe Shotgunner

Thank you for all the info! I definitely could learn to handle some power, but I'm also confident that I want the lightest bike I can get, for the most part 🤘

Hold Fast Joe

I liked the slow light bike, I just never used it to get to work or go on a freeway. It was just joy rides to no where

Hold Fast Joe

A tiny 125 light bike in the country, it's nice. Heck I think I cruised at 30mph for most part. I found at that speed my eyes weren't bothered by the wind and I could really just enjoy the view. Oh.. take sun block.. oh man.. got some awful burns.. Ah and some cash, never know might run into a nice farmer who bails you out and gas at $6.. a few Benjamin's stuffed into the bottom of the bike seat may save you from a lot of pushing

Tacticaldoodle

I'd rather have a tiny thing of that shoe glue/goop over superglue. You saw how poorly it fares in heat/storage/long term stashing, but it's effect on cloth and flexibles is just the worst. That shoe glue is handy for boots, seams, and the like, it's stored a bit better than expected, too.

Zack Harris

Great video, so true how friends and seasons of life shift. My best friend got me into MTB last year and is a great way to get outside with buddies. Another hobby to blow $$ on. lol

Brad Fegan

Great vid and great scenery. Definitely keep doing these. I made it back from Alaska and already researching areas for the next trip. I know way too many guys that are waiting to retire before they do anything, go anywhere or just try to have fun. Sadly, I haven't ridden in years. The guys I use to ride with lets just say were not the safest riders. So I bailed on riding with them. I then moved to a urban area and riding became more work that pleasure, I ended up selling the bike. May get another one in future but don't know at this point. Those absent friends you are talking about, I use to call them fair weather friends. They only come out when its convenient for them. Always coming up with an excuse not to do anything. They don't seem to be really living life, just existing.

Pedro

Mountain bikes are a very pricey hobby, especially full suspension bikes.

Pedro

Same with road bikes. TacD you may get a good deal swapping in road kit. A lot of the shimano stuff is interchangeable from road to mountain.

Clint Allison

Interesting video. I honestly wouldn't have watched if not for you mentioning the philosophy content which I enjoy very much. As a motorcyclist myself, I find most bike videos lacking compared to the actual experience. The commentary make your videos as always. Thank you for putting in the work and sharing it with us. Glad to see you've found such a good friend in Shaun. He seems like a legit dude and I think your friendship compliments each other. Stay safe my friends.

DuginIN

I want to see your 2021 KTM 890 adventure video.

The Nutnfancy Project

I get that. Riding alone is awesome: you never have to worry about the other guy, do things at your own pace. I will say with Sean I don't have any of those problems; he always keeps up and we are well matched in all aspects.

Sheepdog

Geographically California has it all. Yes, geographically I can't argue. It is an awesome state, second to none , Geographically!

AC

Another amazing video setting the bar high!

Sheepdog

You are so right about how it's hard to find true friends. I've not had any success in finding one since my early 30's and I'm going on 60 this year. You are very fortunate to have a friend like Sean.

Matt

Its great that you're fortunate enough to have a good riding buddy. They are hard to come by. And yeah it's nice to be able to just do your own thing sometimes as well.

Bluegill097

Definitely tuned in for the philosophy since I’m not a moto guy. The friendship rant really hit home. I have been considering moving out of state for a job and one of the things I considered was leaving the people I thought were “friends”. But you hit the nail on the head Nutn, when I stopped to think about it they were more of acquaintances. Sucks to have to realize but it’s important to know when it’s time to move on I guess. Anyway, got what I came for out of this vid!

Tyler Bassett

Awesome video Nutn! Great to ride along on another adventure and get a philosophy video out it. My wife and I actually got married on beach on the water at Limekiln State park that you pass in this video! If remember correctly, you and Matt from Smith (At the time, I don't know if he still with them or not) stayed at Limekiln a few years back and stayed in the same site down by the creek the night before the wedding! Pretty cool to see you in the area again. 👍

Jeremy doblinger

Dont forget your a fricking jet fighter pilot also Nutn!! Lol prolly hard for dudes to keep up with F1 Nutn lol.

Racing Psychosis

Fun vid. Since brain surgery, I can't do that motorcycle thing anymore, lack of balance sucks. I did spend the day at the track with the karts today. You are right a real dude friend will go and at least help at the track, I don't expect them to be like experts, I don't expect them to have the balls to race them like I do. And granted some of them are big or tall dudes that really don't fit in racing karts. But I have very few of them around, its like you said. Its kind of sad in a way, but hey that's there problem if they don't like risk and adventure and sometimes watching me break shit. I have gone out with motorcycle buddies in my Mustang. Some of those guys like you said you don't match up well. I had one group of motorcycle guys that were super slow and they were like wow we're surprised you can keep up with us, and I was like guys, I could have passed and blown you all off the road and was like not even close to 10-20% of what the car is capable of, not fun. Fun to hangout with at different sites, but not fun to get there with.

TechNeck

Your videos are why i own a dual sport. I got a klr 650 a few years ago, miled it out, rode it to the yukon for a job interview, stayed for a year, bought a brand new 2020 dr650 . Big plan is to drive it to panama. Was going to be this year but well .. covid. As for friends, yeah ive given up on more then a few. I used to drive from alberta to bc to see they for a weekend (about 1050 miles each way) did it once a month, drive all night after work friday, crash for 3 hours, hang out Saturday, drive home sunday... After a year of that, and not one (of 3) of them ever came to see me... I gave up, moved to a twice a year friend, tried to organize an australia trip .. "hey save $50 a month for the next two years well go for two weeks, if your a little short i can help out" time came to book... One had $200 the other two... Nothing... Fuck it, i was out lol. I have 2 core friends that will drop everything to help out and hang, and 3 others that try... But yeah so many people come and go i have no time for "fair weather friends" anymore. Maybe we can share a few miles when i drive by... You will have to jump on the 690 otherwise you will dust the dr650 lol.

Pedro

Moms from Panama, you’ll definitely enjoy the ride there. Definitely those folks who don’t make a effort to hang out get dropped.

Pedro

If the laws weren’t so bad I’d love California. I miss the geography and variety it offered.

Pedro

Love my 06 auto clutch. For traffic it can’t be beat. Plus you’re 100% in control, it will let you Bounce the redline all day if you don’t shift up.

Pedro

Definitely the 250 class is not a keep It for long class. I had mine maybe 6 months before we sold it. Luckily they are so cheap you can sell them at a tiny little loss or about what you paid for used. I agree with TacD that the 250 is very slow and hardly gets out of its own way. But that slowness teaches you defensive riding to the max. When you’re slow you have to anticipate a lot of things and that’s a good habit to have.

Daniel Herb

"In reality.... its all dried up when you need it" haha so true.

TechNeck

Prepping isnt just about the buying... Its about the maintaining. Which reminds me i need to restock the first aid kit.... Fucking $400-1000 bill every couple years, i think i need a new NPA, ashamen seals, tape, a CAT, disinfectant, and quick clot this year. TCCC kits arnt cheap but i have used it at a nasty accident to save a life.

CincinnatiDan (Ohio)

Hey Nut’n, how often do you get to California? Monterrey is 800+ miles from SLC. I rarely get more than 60 miles from Cincinnati... what am i doing wrong?

CincinnatiDan (Ohio)

I can barely leave the house without getting permission from my wife and even then i pay the price... maybe not today but soon and when i least expect it...

William H

Before my migration to Colorado, I lived on the southern California coast for 34 years. It was great seeing the views in this video. I think the central coast is one of the most beautiful places on planet Earth.

Anthony Schaad

Soo true Nutn, good friends are hard to find ! It’s why I’m so thankful I’m a Twin , best friend all my life, we do just about everything together ! TNPR for life here, love all the vids especially the adventure vids, my fav. I’m hooked on these motorcycle vids right now, me n the bro are only a year into cycling and getting ready to get our license n these vids are gold lol !!! Thanks much for the project Nutn!!

Scott Reichard

Mostly I have riden alone. Tried riding with guy friends but they never seemed able to maintain spacing from me. When we would stop at some scenic california ocean overlook they always wanted to talk.. and I always wanted to just sit and think. I have done far better with women on the back of my bike.. they hold on and you feel like your sharing something special. I was with a woman ten years and if I left town for a couple days she would sleep with my leather motorcycle jacket because it smelled like me. I have done lots of single sailing out to the british virgin islands and avalon off california coast. But really love waking up with a beautiful girl and having coffee near the helm.. covered up. Saying nothing, but sharing the experience even more. So I love the feel of rolling on the throttle on a long scenic turn... feeling the angle of the bike fall over to balance out the speed. But honestly have never found it better than having a woman on my bike or being alone.

Keanu Alfaro

Very well said and thought provoking as always! The bond between guys is so underrated and essential for our health and well being. Thanks Nutn - please keep chuggin'. Much love

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

I only learned how to ride a motorcycle this spring. Still too dangerous to ride them in most places. Other drivers will kill you and not even stop because they don't notice. For my dude friends we mostly go shooting. =)

Andrettski

Wish I could, wife says dirt/track only. Nutn have you ever ridden the Washington side of the Columbia River Gorge? Great tunnels. Leave Vancouver eastbound on hwy 14 to The Dalles, Oregon. Cascade Locks with the Bonneville dam is a great stop on the way. Skamania Lodge for a bite/beautiful golf course.

Josiah Pierce

love the philosophy vids as always!

Jesse A Johns

Awesome video. I love motorcycles, although I've not been on one. I always enjoy the philosophy videos.

Downtrodden

New to The Project and a first time Patreon. I've been riding motorcycles for decades and my closest friends are the ones who've been through some stuff. When it's time to gear up in any weather, when a tire needs a tube or plug, when a trail goes to crap...I know who's going to be solid. No fake "brotherhood" bull. Of the dozen guys I will casually ride with, if riding to the artic circle, I really only trust a couple to go the distance. I did The Maritimes (NB, NS, NF, LAB, and QB) in 2019 that went far better than planned because my riding partner was vetted over the past 12 years (and vice versa). Now I'm looking forward to the next multi-day dual sport ride where a couple new guys will get their shot!

Johnny Motorcycle

Yeah I have shitty friends. They're all "convenience" relationships. When they need something they're all in. When I need something, not so much. I don't have moto friends, which sucks. I'd love to ride the PCH someday. Looks amazing. I think the way for me to make this happen is fly somewhere close, buy a new bike, ride the PCH then ride home.
