Let's make it official: here are the highs and lows of the .300 Blackout cartridge. It is much beloved in the tactical community and has survived, so far, in the marketplace. In the Bunker, I will be comparing it to the 7.62x39mm round whose ballistics it closely matches.  But there's a lot to the answer as we consider performance, chambered platforms, cost, availability in WROL, and more. We'll see again the amazing value of the 7.62x39mm round again also!

And just as I was getting bored with nothing else to do, here comes fun content.

Tacticaldoodle

It seems like everyone I know has bought a .300 "truck gun" after the cozy summer last year watching the street parties. It makes lots of sense, since a shorty 5.56 doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence if you want max performance. On the upside, a 556 pistol at 7" doubles as a flashbang with the right brake. Guess the other rounds didn't come to much. Remember the Grendel fad? The "SOCOM IS TOTALLY ADOPTING THE 6.8 SPC!!!!"? Remember how guys were selling off their DI AR's and putting all their money into 1/4 the number of pistons?

Guy Actual

OH Yeah, Been waiting on this one! Now I can stop focusing on the drama between T. Rex and Garand Thumb (Flannel Daddy). Ok, just kidding. Been working on comments for current legislations. If you have not, you should.

Lon N

Don't pee on my Grendel pistol truck gun and tell me it's Mountain Dew. :-p

Hold Fast Joe

I made comments and posted, I don't think it'll make much difference but goa said to do it so I did

Guy Actual

NOTE!!! I wanted to pause where he is talking about Reloading and tell everyone that MIDWAYusa.com has CCI #41 5.56 PRIMERS At this moment for $89.99 per 1000. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1301170074?pid=170074 Limit 1 box per 7 days. ... Unless you have multiple accounts and addressed to send to... But who would do that.

Joe Mack

Anyone else feel the 300 BO has second cool just from its looks?

Scott Reichard

Pistons are the only option. Sell off DI rifles. Only a 18 inch , 16 inch , 12 inch , 10 inch , 8 inch is the best. 62 or 77 grain or 55. Pick the best and abandon all else. The ak is the only reliable rifle but only a 8 inch group at 100 yards. But a one shot 2 inch group at 600 yards. The 6.8 is the future unless its not.. With ammo shortages the 5.56 in any available loading beats harsh lanquage.. we need more unique one off boutique calibers. And we need to standardize on just two.. 5.56 and .308. Yikes the pending atf fraud coming from non elected gun haters put in charge of destroying our rights is a real threat. Is it time to use arms or hide them or have we had a huge boating accident. ??? This covid disaster / scam along with a rigged election and lying leftie hacks not willing to address new york or chicago while claiming the evils of the all powerful 5.56 rifle is driving me crazy. Its hard to plan for a future when biden cant remember his name without a note card. He only reads what the people in charge tell him to do. Who they are we are not allowed to know. I geared up by buying a bunch of 6.8 mags planning on a future build that makes sense. And that never happened. At this point I know that 300 blackout has promise, and has great uses.. but I am not going to add any caliber or rifle without having a lot more data about ammo and component availability. The caliber wars are always a great topic. And people change from .40 to 9mm then to 357 sig then .380 all to improve some aspect of their ability.. i would prefer to have options.. and stock guns and ammo for any of them. My opinion is that someone having 2 ar's with 20 mags and several thousand rounds of ammo is ready within reason for anything.. 5.56 or .308 works in this example.

David Gaines

POU vids are my favorite! I don’t have any desire to add the .300 blackout round to my stash (all our guns are chambered in 9mm, .308, 12g, .223/5.56 or 22lr). My truck gun is the sub2k. But I still can’t wait to buckle in for this!

David Gaines

Anyone else ever get amazed when Nutn gestiamtes how long his vid will be at the outset and you look down and see he’s almost always within a few minutes. That’s insane, lol.

Adam Boyd

Now I'm even happier to have an AK

Dustin T Goettsch

Always cracks me up... "actual defensive use comes inside 50yrds. Let me test and evaluate this gun in the desert at 100-300yrds" 300bo should be 7-12" barrel with a RDS. Energy, flash, concussion out of a small platform like that, makes more sense than the other cartridge options. Run it as a PDW, a few mags worth of ammo. Once you step outside of that POU, SPR, SAPR are THE options. 300bo is one of the easiest rounds to reload. It's also is how you get gobs of ammo. 30cal bullets have always been on the shelves somewhere. Some are actually cheap. One pound of powder nets ~400rds. You can easily make cases out of 556. Primers? You're in the same boat as everyone else. 🤷‍♂️

Lon N

The only reason I would consider a 300 BO would be a POU requiring a sub 8" barrel on a AR platform. Thoroughly enjoyed another Nutn GRV on the practical side. I will take a moment to pimp a 6.5 Grendel GRV - for the usual reason - I own a PSA 6.5 12' Grendel. Yes I have been tempted to cash out some of the Wolf ammo I stashed at $0.26 a round, but know the cash is temporary and tomorrow might be the day you can never buy it again.

Guy Actual

Just a thought on the 300blk. It could not hurt to have a barrel saved up. Here is my thought. In the off chance that you came across the ammo in a WROL situation, you could do a quick barrel swap on an upper. Having a multitude of calibers for the AR platform, I had 300 before my KS47s as I love reloading, and 300 has lots of versatility for those of us that enjoy the tedious job that is reloading, testing, reloading, testing, reloading, testing. (I have not started reloading on the 7.62x39 yet, so there may be some fun there too) But just having a barrel in your collection may pay off someday, and at worst of WROL, you could barter it to someone for someone for something.

sean

Given the present state of the things, systems philosophy should be a primary concern. The AR platform (M4 style with 55gr or MK 12 style with 77gr) and Glock platform with 9mm have massive advantages over nearly everything else: ammo availability, parts availability, massive aftermarket support, high reliability, widespread maintenance knowledge, tradable on the secondary market and easily mission customizable using a variety of different optics and projectiles. I have seen a lot of arms chambered in trendy cartridges such as 300 blackout flood onto the secondary market over the past year, presumably due to lack of ammo and parts availability and owners starting to wake up to reality.

Douglas K

I love that f4 phantom in the bunker

Guy Actual

I still love my Grendel. have you seen the Next Gen battle rifle video that uses the plastic shell? There goes my reloading fun...

Guy Actual

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.” - MLK (Had to edit this one, as that statement didn't start with me)

Lon N

I have. Time for a 3D printer just down the bench from the press. They have been chasing plastic cases for a long time.

Lon N

"The" Sean I presume?

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

5.56 works. 300 BO is awesome if you want a range toy, anything outside of that 556 or 762 is going to be much more available and already does everything 300 BO does.

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

Grendel Fad? Everyone in Texas that shoots pigs uses 6.5 Grendel. It's an amazing caliber and I have tried to send your dad my upper several times :D

sean

LOL, no just a Sean.

Lon N

Just another 'voice of reason' eh? I try to keep "sustainability" (note liberal buzzword) in mind for my systems too. Appreciate your words, even without "The".

Devin Heald

I'm definitely going to be staying with the 223 AR platform over the 300 but really want to get an AK don't know what style / variance I want to get for my first one. Main philosophy fun gun range gun just a different caliber

Hold Fast Joe

$$$ is an issue, glad you mentioned cost. I have lots of things demanding cash. This is part of why I remain a donor, you recognize reality! 556, ya check here. Stocked up, triple Roger that here as well. I wish I had known more about the AK when I was looking at an AR, but I'm too deep in it now and I'm not going to expand into other cartridges unfortunately. If I get to a point I'm ready to do so, it'll be 762x39. If I never reach that point, meh.. Great content! Audio was a bit weird though..

Hold Fast Joe

Easy, office space copy machine eraser Time to die Xerox!! We have had enough of your paper jams!

Aaron Walker

CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH!!!!!!!!!! Prediction: Nutn thinks it's too specific. A PCC can probably do the same thing with cheaper ammo. Probably a great deal of discussion on cans. Afterthoughts to follow.

Matt Mcdonnell

Got the pap m-70 762 back in the Obama days for 600. Good investment and good cartridge. Its .27c per round right now on ammoseek.

Zambini

Thank you sir! Just got into reloading, all I was missing were the primers to get some 223 going.

Kyle Soucy

I thought the drama was between TRex and Modlite? Flannel Daddy is and shall always be blameless.

Kyle Soucy

I view 300 BLK the same as Grendel. Fun to have but not a WROL GTW SHTF round. I do have Grendel and will probably have 300 BLK one day but 556 is still the go to for me.

Guy Actual

It stinks that you can only get one case per 7 days. But, that does keep the scalpers away to some degree. Seems like everything has to deal with scalpers. Ticketmaster was smart and just bought the scalping company. Would love to see brownells or Midwayusa purchase gunbroker, lol.

Guy Actual

Honestly, I have no idea about the fude between T.Rex Arms and Garand Thumb. I watched a video about it that JohnnyB produced. The point of the video was good. The 2A community is its own worst enemy. We should all be focusing on the anti 2A legislation, but instead many are focused on the drama of two youtubers. All trust to Papa Plad

Aaron Knesal

I have an AR and bolt gun chambered in 300blk and absolutely love shooting them suppressed. They definitely fit into my home defense POU and my 10 year old daughter can confidently shoot them both. I can easily convert 5.56 brass over to 300blk and components are becoming available again. What can I say, I'm a bit of a contrarian. 😉

Charles Sagaser

Going to use both 7.62x39 and 300 blackout for hunting this year (galil ace with 123 grain underwood controlled chaos at 2450 fps and custom build 10.5 in 300 black with hand loaded 120 grain tac-tx at about 2200 fps). One benefit of 300 black is the available options for projectiles. The 7.62x39 is fairly limited especially if you want something bonded or lead free. Also a huge benefit of 300 black missed in this POU is that with pistol powders the 300 black get a higher percentage of possible velocity out of a much shorter barrel. For instance, my 10.5 300 black pistol gets only a hundred or so fps less than the 7.62 out of a 16 inch barrel. Combine that with the versatility of going subsonic out of the same gun and you have a crazy versitile and compact platform.

Charles Sagaser

Not to mention in this day and age even the cheapest 7.62x39 is getting close to 50 cents a round... so how much are you really saving. Maybe I'm a bit silly about this final point, but I dont like the cheapest 7.62x39 because the bi metal jack is mild steel with a copper wash which has been shown to do nothing to protect the edges of your rifling from the steel and leads to a reduced barrel life with reduced accuracy. Just my 2c

TeaL

I built a 300 blackout ar, but later switch the barrel for a 7.62x39. For the main reason of ammo availability.

Todd Strelka

Cool video discussion. Glad I never invested in that caliber.

David Gaines

What drama are you referencing?

Jardine

.300 blackout is pricey!

Pedro

Same ammo set up at home. Keep it standard, keep it easy to manage.

Xray606

Nice... It wold be cool to see something like this for Grendel at some point.

Lon N

I wonder how many rounds of 6.5 Grendel would be sufficient "baksheesh" to push this ahead? (Edit) Even at the cost of a verbal slaying for the $/round price.

Zak

6.5 Grendel master race

DuginIN

Great information. I stayed away from the 300 blackout because of the previous video. 5.56 is # 1. For years I wanted to add 7.62x39 using AK mags as a backup option, but I’m not an AK guy. Then PSA came out with the KS47 GEN2. After your review along with others I bought it. $700.00. So far it’s been a winner. Glad I have it.

TRJ

.300 blk got me into reloading. Sort barrels and suppressed. I say is augments 5.56 not one or the other. I don’t see the point of 5.56 in sub 11.5”. 14.5” and up, 5.56. 8-10” .300 Blk. Same reason I hate sub nose .357.

Phill Super

Got into suppression... got the 300bo pistol and ruger bolt action (soo quiet). It is what it is the 300 shines in the ninja role and that's about it. However, in retrospect going with a suppressed 8.5" CMMG banshee in 45acp (230gn ~1000fps) might have been a better semi auto ninja option based on ammo cost and availability.

Phill Super

A 308 is a better 308, a 7.62x39 is a better 7.62x39, and 556 is a better ar15.

Jeff

I really enjoy the 6.8, I'm surprised it wasn't included as a comparative option, since 5.56 and .308 were mentioned. Ammo availability is on par with 300 blk, and I have found it in bulk. Its mostly a predator gun/fun gun for me, but it does ring steel substantially harder than my 5.56.

Lee Harrell [W5GCF]

I own two 300 BLK SBRs and both are suppressed. One for recreation because it's fun to shoot a rifle "Hollywood quiet". The other one, and I feel it's a POU worth discussion, is my bedside rifle. If, God forbid, I need to use a rifle in self defense in my home, I want it to be short (SBR) and quiet (suppressed with subsonic ammo). I can't imagine the sound of a 5.56 or 7.72x39 inside a home. I feel that I can manage the situation better with a rifle that essentially, makes no sound. Just my $0.02...

Brian Driver

I run 300 blk in a rifle with FDE furniture and FDE mags. For 556, furniture and mags are black. It helps me keep things separate.

Chris Cherry

Great video, and good points for the unprepared... I love my 16" 300bo, with an amazingly accurate barrel, plus I also reload for it(and everything else, and I prepped for our shitty days...) Looking forward to building a 10.5" pistol soon and getting a can to verify the subs I've been using are adequate... Keep it up!

Tacticaldoodle

Once your 556 bases are covered, you're doing alright. The .300 question was often posed as the first/only gun for some reason for that initial burst. The amount of young guys that thought the standard AR caliber would fall by the wayside was oddly frequent. Back then there was this vibe in the gun media that somehow the whole field was advancing quickly and you'd be left behind without a SOCOM super caliber, or a new piston AR. Guys really thought they'd be filled with regret, like ;a guy holding his ARMS mounted bushmaster in 2011.

Tacticaldoodle

Bedside suppressed it's a thing of beauty. Works very well and fits the pou perfectly. I keep a headset on my HD guns, heaven forbid I don't have time to put them on first.

Trevor K

I was building a .300 bo on a colt Canada SAS over run upper right before we got hit with the still in limbo AR 15 ban in Canada. After research I found the only option is the 16” barrel if you want performance out of it. I guess if I wanted a .30 AR15 platform I would go 300 otherwise I’d just go mini 30 or AK 7.62x39. 6.8 is unfortunately dead.

Shot442

Assuming you already have 5.56 covered which I’m sure many of us do, 300 BO for a short barrel truck gun or on foot concealed. You only need enough ammo for a load out, setup, and occasional practice. 300 BO has returned to stores now.

Nathan P Hubsch

Bunch of guys at work got 300 blackout AR's, then a couple found out what I was paying for 7.62x39 ammo and I converted them to buying the POF 7.62X39 Upper for $650 when they had them on sale. Now their 300 BO collects dust. 7.62x39 was also available all through 2020 and to today. Still sitting on over 3,500 rounds left over from 2018 when it was all $0.23 per round.

Hold Fast Joe

I'm seeing it for 30 cents each again, sgammo and others

RobK

I am not surprised this is still a non- recommend from nutn- but I do feel like the POU discussion was too focused on the idea of a one gun to rule them all and understandably to heavy focused on the theater of operation he is located in. I also have my SBRed AR in 300 blackout as a bump in the night gun, it also might make for a okay truck gun. As long a you are keeping the 300 black to a narrow niche roll, it is fine. my theater of operation is moderately urban so I can't justify a 300+ yard shot in normal times, mind you my yard only goes 60 yards from the back door then it is neighbors house. I think if you are someone who can isolate your ammo from getting mixed up then the 300 makes for a perfect host cartridge for sound suppression. If you have zero plans on getting into the NFA game then I would advise you pass on the 300. If we are only talking about open war in the streets and sustained combat then I completely agree with nutn- the 300 will not be a good choice. I don't believe that the 300 blackout was ever intended to replace the 5.56 or the 7.62x39 but rather compliment it.

RobK

Good idea, it is these isolation of ammo practices that can help mitigate the danger of getting the 300 round in a 5.56. of course some buddy might not know that or in the dark you can still make errors especially in the heat of the moment.

Nathan P Hubsch

Yeah, it's come back down enough to where I can start stocking up again. Like Nutn said, people aren't buying 300 BO buy the 1000 round case.

Brian Driver

My 300 blk is basically for home defense, maximum distance about 20 ft. Also, it’s really fun at the range. But if zombies attack in WROL, it’s gonna be 556.

Andrettski

Do your research on the AK market. The panic/demic has doubled or more the $ of crappy AK's. Watch Nutn, AKOU 47/74 and Mrgunsandgear. They don't give you any BS.

Andrettski

I just got 762 Barnaul for 32 cents at sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com

PapaEcho1775

Dude dude dude, awesome POU!

Andrettski

No on 300 blk for me, I'm 556 AR...762 AK...9MM everything...My fringe cartridge is 5.7x28 praying for more carbine options.

James Young

Nice pickup on that Grendel stash. Dont give that up. Grendel in 12" is an amazing do all gun. Agree on the 300 Blk POU, short makes sense otherwise choose 5.56, 6.5 Grendel, or 7.62x39.

Matt P

Bedside hd is absolutely what Id consider the gun for. I have a sbr with rds and a general purpose 14 in p&w with a 1/4 power scope. Both of these in 5.56 In addition Ive got an aero m5 in 308 for reaching out. However I also have a few lowers that need a purpose. One may be an 8 in bo. I have a sandman k. eventually Id probably even add a sandman s for the 300. POU Hd rifle. 110gr loads. I run 5.56 in pmags Id go lancers for my 300. As been said before Once you have your wrol system nothing wrong with adding calibers.

Tim Bone

Great comment. Sums up the .300BLK perfectly.

Tim Bone

Great idea. I'm getting a .300 BLK SBR. Now I have to think about getting the furniture and mags in some type of FDE or light gray...

Tim Bone

The .300BLK is a 700-yard cartridge?! That's "tactical buffoonery". Best comment about the firearms community in awhile. Thanks Nutn...

Johnny Motorcycle

My 300 BLK is a higher caliber silenced critter getter. I need something more than a .22LR but don't want to run a 556. So for my POU the 300BLK works great and don't need to worry about stocking up. It's a custom build well under 7 lbs. Nutn would be proud. :-)

Racing Psychosis

556 sure, that's a go to. But not for when I'm going hunting hog or whitetail. I put on the 300 upper and go hunting, where I go to hunt its pretty dense wooded areas, I generally cannot see much beyond 150 yds. Its also why my other typical hunting rifle is a lever action for even denser woods. For hunting, I don't need 1000s of round of it. A bucket of Gorrila Ammo in my favorite hunting grain, will last for a long, long time. And they have some great rounds. Plus getting close is fun to do. GTW - I'm likely not taking 300 out, unless I'm out of 556ammo. And I don't do AK. I prefer AR platforms. And no, I am not spending money on so-called cool watches, just not my thing, only a good cheap watch, so more money for ammo. WROL - 556. All my 556 mags are a different color. All the ammo is segregated.

Gilberto Esquivel

The merits of the 300 BO were seriously overblown form the start. I saw the 7.62 x39 up against the NATO 5.56 in the sand box and in the Horn of Africa...as long as you keep your freaking ammo and delivery system clean you'll be just fine...trust!

The Nutnfancy Project

Thanks Time...and that was Travis Haley selling that BS btw! Unbelievable sellout that guy

Jason Boyles

I would agree in the comparison if you could actually get a 7.62x39 AR platform to be reliable and shoot well. I just don't dig the AK platform. The .300 blackout is the perfect answer.

Jason Boyles

I could be wrong, but a 300 blk shouldn't even chamber in a 5.56 chamber or barrel. I've never tried it, but logic would dictate that the large diameter bullet would get wedged into the tiny hole and jam long before bolt lock up. Bad in a hot situation? Yes, but it ain't gonna blow up. Lol

Mike R

As always Nut I agree with 99% of what you’re saying in this philosophy of use, but for me the 300blk suppressed with a short barrel AR is what I want for home defense. That’s only cause it fits what I want most, a AR platform which I know better than any of other rifle and that’s what I want when I’m half asleep and also quiet if I have to shoot it off. Plus a short barrel for maneuverability, it works for me cause I’m one of those guys already has several different AR’s so adding a 300blk isn’t a issue. I’m already reloading eight or nine different calibers and have all reload equipment so adding new guns and sometimes a new calipers isn’t an issue for me. Though I’m only using it for home defense in that platform, WROL I have the 5.56 or 308 battle rifles for that use.

Mike R

Totally agree with you guys on the 300blk thinking why I want it as a home defense for that role it fits perfectly. It works if all those boxes check out for you in those niche roles, like you’ve saying Rob it’s a great addition in certain areas, but not meant to replace main caliber GTW weapon systems.

Jason Boyles

I had no idea that a chamber wouldn't have the same profile as the casing going in it. Seems very counter intuitive. The more you know I guess. I'm not in the market for 300 blk anyway, but very good to know.

Rick Grad

Someone needs to come out with a .22 Blackout, it would sell like crazy. Never jumped on the wagon, didn’t want to spend the energy on a completely different system.

Tim Bone

And as always your post agrees with 99% of the comments here. As a suppressed SBR or pistol for home defense .300BLK is a great option. That's what I like about the consensus here on Patreon...compared to the Thundercats that comment on YouTube. Great minds think alike.

Matthew Sumner

I love my 300 blackout. I bought it knowing I would suppress it and the ammo would be expensive. I had very good expectations about what the caliber was before getting into it, which is what everyone should do with any new caliber they buy. I think that's really just the key.

Lon N

Chambering requires the bullet to be driven deeper into the brass.

Rho

I never owned a 7.62 x39 gun. 300 was the new kid and I took a gamble. I’ve never had a Blackout barrel above 10” and once I got a suppressor it became my favorite gun to shoot. But I also put together a 10” upper in 5.56 so I can shoot more. It is expensive to feed if you shoot regularly at all, More then 308 expensive, which is another reason why I didn’t go 7.62 x39. If a gun is going to be 10 lbs I want it for 800 yds. I have an Aero M5 just for that.

Andrettski

I just saw one on Classic Firearms, it looks good but $1200 for the braced one and they ship with a Promag. I have a Ruger 57 so I don't have the FN mags. Waiting on Ruger to come through.

Derek W Tiller

i have a 300 aac as a dedicated hog gun. made a big difference with knockdown ability compared to 223.

Mitch Schutter

I remember that video. He also said the trajectory at 450m was the same as a 5.56 at 500m. He said they both experience about 90 - 100 inches of drop at those stated distances. A 77gr 5.56 on my JBM calculations drops 82" at 500m and a 110gr .300 Hornady GMX drops 110" at 450m. So even comparing the best .300 BO trajectory to the worst 5.56 trajectory, he still had to fudge the numbers. Unless he found some insanely slow heavy .223 load and called it 5.56 anyway. I've been saying it for a while myself, these guys might be combat veterans, but many of them have no more integrity than a used car salesmen. And then if you call them out, their fanboys cry "How dare you question a combat veteran."

Harrison Nobles

I love the 300blk and the x39. both are great and i think they are best when used with a silencer. I use a form1 quiet bore can and love it. I am currently building a PBS-1 clone for my AK so it can be quiet too.

Casey Jones

You know I label my mags and it’s pretty easy to keep 5.56 and .300BO separate, just my mileage. I also use one particular color mag for .300bo only. But what’s easy to do is easy not to do. I keep .300bo in a limited capacity. With current ammo prices I’ve had to shoot out of stash and now I’m not shooting that rifle. I mainly have my .300ob in a short range hunting POU. But I’ve got fmj’s and subs for special home defense applications shall we say. Price of ammo sucks. That’s where x39 shines.

Tacticaldoodle

I know now, some guys will say "Well duh, it's awesome! Why didn't you like it in 2016?" --------------- Because in 2016 it hadn't won the cartridge wars yet. It was still somewhat new, and it had some other wildcat competitors that could've taken its market share. Now, it's found its niche, prices are constantly dropping on every accessory, mag, load, and it's pretty much a minor mainstream caliber! It's THE subsonic caliber for sure, but for a time there was a definite theory that it would lose out in comparison to the other AR rounds, like 6.8 after it was supposedly purchased for some "tip of the spear" team in the M.E. Pretty cool that now we even have crappy bulk 300 at some walmarts! Hell, PSA even does some 300 kits you could finish up for around five hundo, right? Crazy times!

Couldn't agree more here. No away would I run 300 b for the same reasons..

I had the opportunity to speak with a Navy Seal from Devgru. He told me that they did not shoot .300blk because it was not as lethal out at distance when compared to 5.56. They wanted a cartridge that could do both CQC and engage at greater distances with good ballistics and still be carrying enough energy downrange at impact. His team did not care about the quiet .300blk subsonic rounds being suppressed. They simply ran suppressors on their 5.56 guns, and that was good enough.

I used to have a couple ar’s in 300 blackout sold both of them bought a 16” ks47 pile of ammo mags and a 1-6x primary arms scope. Out to 300yds that ks47 is way more accurate than the 300 blackouts I owned. Regularly hit 4”-6” targets at 300yds with the ks47. The 300’s I had both shot 2.5 moa at best and I tried a bunch of different ammo. As far as hunting I’ve killed deer with both using a 110gn Barnes tsx from the 300 and a 123gn federal fusion with the 7.62x39 both got the job done but if I had to choose I’d go with the 7.62x39. I see 7.62x39 for $8 a box again online when the 300 blackout is going for $25 for the cheap steel cased stuff still. Idk if you aren’t shooting suppressed and don’t have a 30 cal suppressor I really don’t see the need for a 300 blackout anymore. I didn’t always think that way though. I got caught up in the hype years ago and built a 10.5” and a 16” 300blackout even bought up 1200rds of ammo but it didn’t take me long to figure out I didn’t need it lol

On the cross loading. I once had an idiot take green and yellow rem boxed ammo, and attempt to load a .308 round, into a 30-30 chamber. Said idiot had both cartridges in green and yellow boxes at home. That idiot was me. Fortunately, the length of the cartridge was the reason the action stuck. If the primer had been able to be struck, I would probably be typing now with my toes. With my one good eye... I wonder how .300 blackout fits in a 30-30....

When 30 caliber performance is needed, carry a 7.62x51. Your statement about carrying M1A1 is apt. For over a decade the community has been dancing around this or that cartridge and comparing them to 7.62x51 performance; within 500 yards, 7.62.x51 still delivers foot pounds on target. Thank you for the continued effort and dedication.

I think I just made a world record for saying “exactly” the most times in 40 minutes. Lol

My .300 shortie with can is my home defense WROL gun. I can reload it (have components and save my brass) but I’m not yet. I have enough rounds for my use. If I’m in a multi-thousand round WROL situation I have 5.56 and 7.62x51 in extremely capable platforms (to 400 and 800 yards, in my hands) and 7.62x39 in a less capable format (100 yard max). If I could only have one for everything it’d be .300 BLK with supers for distance and subs for close. It’s great if you can afford to get into it.

Another thing I forgot to mention is before this whole covid scare bull$hit I was getting brown bear 196gn 7.62x39 subsonics for about $.45 a round after shipping and that stuff functions flawlessly out of my ks47 suppressed and even unsuppressed. Granted sometimes a couple rounds out of a box may have a sonic crack but even those were hearing safe, but the ones that actually were subsonic (which were the majority) were just as quiet as my old 300 blackouts with subs suppressed. I haven’t really checked the availability on the subsonic 7.62x39 recently but if you can find it a 7.62x39 can be just as quiet as a 300 blackout. Like I said only problem I found is a lot of the times 2-3 rounds out of 20 would actually break the sound barrier from my 16” barrel which is no big deal to me since I’m not trying to be a total ninja mastering in the art of whispering death (as quoted from mr. Nutnfancy himself) lol

Thanks for the update. I built a .300 4-5 years ago in pistol form just for the sake of building and running. But the cost of the ammo combine with other builds led me to sell it. Besides, I could not justify further investment when compared to .223/5.56 and 7.62x39. No regrets, it was a great built, but it was time to move on.

Watched this just this week and saw the "cost" comment.. now a week later... availability of cheap 7.62x39 is going to come into play.. Watched it almost double in price for steel cased. (yeah I know it's artificial but try finding it in sock.) Nutn's vids being watched by ATF/State department... AK ammo available... Well justs just fix that.
