Not everything they grow on the Microtech farm is delicious.  Some of it gives me diarrhea.  We've seen a couple turkeys here and here comes another one. This Borka Dagger apparently came out this year and sold quickly.  There's probably a lot on the internet that love it. You would think that any MT fixed blade would be a win because they are few. But in both 1st and 2nd Cool this dagger fails to impress me. Dial in for the low down on the Borka and I'll make my case! Instead I'll recommend a few competitive options.

Thanks to TNP Donor Kelly for this loaner!

When Microtech Sucks: the Borka Dagger

For MT price I want a slick auto. For fixed blade duty a reliable beater from cold steel takes my $$.

I love a good negative review. Too many channels just say everything is great. If you never see a product you don’t like, how can we trust anything? I also find the negative reviews to be fun! PS: Conflicted (not really) to see my name on the recent 1911 review, a platform I have no love for 😂

I'm the guy that has chosen not to get into watches. Knowing my personality and seeing how it has gone with knives and other hobbies, i figure it's only a matter of time until I get sucked in to watches too. For the sake of my wallet I'm trying to delay it as much as possible.

Todd Strelka

Fun knife review. I like the competitive options.

NatvMan

Thanks for saving my wallet. Keep the project moving!

David MN

Sounds like a cross of "derka derka!" And the swedish chef "bork bork bork!"

Racing Psychosis

I could maybe see something like that being useful if I was in the shield wall with my early Imperial Roman Scutum and lost my gladius.

Lon N

Amen...I don't like Ramen and hot dogs enough to start on watches.

Schmuckatelli

As usual, I am attracted to the competitive options displayed in the KRV. This is not the first time I've seen you say good things about both the Cold Steel Shadow Dagger and the Boker AF Dagger, so I will likely look into one of these blades for my LBE system. I know it has been requested before, but would like to see a KRV on the Gerber Strong Arm before I pull the trigger on a fixed blade fighting knife.

Schmuckatelli

You don't always have to agree with Nutn. My first handgun was a 1911 A-1 that I inherited when my father passed. It may not be my go-to-war combat pistol, but it's one of my favorite guns in the safe.

Schmuckatelli

Nutn has infected me with watch fever and now I ask the FedEx driver how his wife and kids are doing when he comes to my house.

David Gaines

Well in that context I can see how that would be quite the prized possession. That sounds really awesome. I agree with Nutn that the only real purpose of the 1911 at this point is a 2nd cool philosophy. But having a practicality about a gun is the driving force for most of my second cool guns. I think they are cool because they fill a role that others can’t. Other than being historic (which again, is a total valid reason to like it) or for those wanting something to have less recoil in competition due to the insane weight, I can’t see any practical purpose for the 1911 and for me, personally, that makes it of no interest.

Lon N

I developed a bitter taste for daggers way back in the day with a Gerber boot dagger that was near impossible to get a decent edge on. It just blew the 2nd cool factor right to hell. Thanks for another KRV Nutn...and thanks Kelly for another rump roaster...brave dude.

Shawn Kuse

Nutn, these past 13 years you have cost me so much $$$ in motorcycles, guns, knives, and watches. Best fun in the world!!!

David Gaines

It’s totally worth it, haha

Paul Kwiatkowski

Both KRVs and WRVs save me time and money. I appreciate the effort you put in.

Danny Riggs II

Great info and review. Appreciate it. The Borka Microtech seems to be more of a throwing knife and not a dagger.

DuginIN

In March when Kelley purchased this Microtech he posted on the TNP Patreon Community “The SBD. Totally a second cool sort of thing. It will probably sit on my desk to open packages and envelops.” So his POU is spot on. I looked into getting one but the sheath sucked etc. so I passed. Looking forward to seeing what else Kelly loaned for KRV. Cold Steel Tai Pan is my all around favorite but I’d like to find a kydex sheath for it. The Cold Steel OSS is bad ass and is built to fight. I laughed at Nutnshell.

Racing Psychosis

I literally have more racing karts than I have watches.

2026-09-15 18:00 I think the socom elite looks like a gas station knife. I own several microtechs and don't see buying that stubby broadsword in this review...daggers have a very specific design language. This one missed it by a mile.

Henry

I'm looking at the socom elite thinking the exact same thing.

David Spinks

Nutn I'm glad you've had good customer service from them. I've probably sent knives in a dozen times and never liked the outcome. Agree with you 100% on this blade. Sorry Kelly..... 😉

Chris Stookey

I'm with you, Nutn. With Microtech, some of their designs really do it for me. And...some really do NOT. This would fit into the last category. Meh. Bleh. Hack, cough, sputter.

Hold Fast Joe

Cool review! I only have a few daggers you recommended and were cheap. My favorite is a plastic cold steel ring dagger I got for 8 bucks! I'm crazy but it's always on my desk, I love flipping it around and poking boxes with it lol

Nathan P Hubsch

Did you not keep the Cold Steel Tai Pan dagger Nutn?
