I have reviewed the Canik TP9 series a lot. That's because it's awesome. I delve into the METE version here and give you an update on its features and discuss how it shot. It has amazing value for all the things given.

No Rifle, No Problem: Canik METE 9mm

Comments

McNavy

Hey Nutn, any plans to review the Mete MC9? Seems like another good contender from Canik to the Micro 9 class.

Green Mountain Boys

Timing is impeccable as always... have been eyeballing one of these vs a 34. Thanks!

Todd Strelka

Nice! I look forward to watching this after church and the Packers game. Thanks for making me into somewhat of a gun guy.

bcbrin

Had a chance to shoot one of these a few weeks ago and was blown away by the trigger and feel in hand. Such a great value for everything that they include at a pretty reasonable price.

Darrell brown

The long slide version of the M&P is very similar as well

Patrick Brichta

Sunday at the gym just got a whole lot better!

Lon N

As always a parade of temptation, the METE particularly so. I am always in for a GRV - thanks Nutn.

Greg Malcom

Years ago I bought the original Canik based on your review at the time. Never have regretted that. I think i got it for $290 at the time. Crazy good value.

Bernal

Aww Yeah Nutnfancy! ...Always picking the out something cool for the GRVs. I want one! Call me crazy, but did my highly tuned ear detect TD in the auto tuned EDM music? If you ever need some GTW music, I’m your man. I have a full studio, with 7stringers and full double bass drums that’ll make babies within a ten mile range cry!

Greg Malcom

Nutn. I was about to order a Walther Q5 Match for the same POU as this Canik... If price wasn't an issue, which would you go with?

BRIAN J ANDERSON

Yes I want one! and 2000 rounds to train with it :)

Adam Boyd

Since your original review we have purchased 2 SAs, 2 SFs and 2 SFXs! All great. I really like my SFX, but you're right about the airy sights. That and the over sized mag release button might make it worth upgrading again to the Mete.

Racing Psychosis

Heh! Splatter of color on your AR; HA! Mine has a splatter alright, rattle can camo and scratches and wear included. Very cool on the Canik. I got a TP9SF years ago from Gander Outdoors of all places back when they sold firearms, they had it priced wrong and had to honor the price after about 15 minutes of haggling with the clerk and then the manager. Well worth it. About the only issue with it is the holster market still is struggling with it, none of my normal goto's make a holster that for it. I've tried others and still have not found anything that really is decent for it as a OWB. That series of guns just flat out works well.

Racing Psychosis

The real problem I have with Canik is holster selection pretty well sucks imo from my typical goto holster makers.

Hakon Satvedt

Nice. For a second you had me forgetting that this will probably never make the California gun roster :-) OCD demands I mention that at about 16:45 in the video, a piece of leather off your glove or something (?) falls into the chamber just before you close it. Sorry :-)

Brandon conley

I got the TP9SF elite to replace my aging XD9. I shot it in competition and it performed flawlessly. I totally feel the whole “I want another one in a different color” thing. Helps that I’m already stacked on magazines too. Throw in a pistol shaped tool kit and I’m really struggling to say no!

Matthew Hargis

Thanks for the review Nutn. Ever since your initial review back in 2014 Canik has interested me. I have enjoyed several over the years and continue to be impressed with Canik as they listen to their customers and change to meet their needs and wants.

RowdyRon

Really sweet pistol, and great value. I already have an AR9 that takes Glock mags, so I just went with Glock. I was digging your G35 though. I bet that thing's awesome. What was the square watch with the red strap?! Couldn't get a good look at it. Thanks Nutn.

Ruben Lopez

⚡⚡⚡What's up Nutn! Another update from the old Electrician Apprentice (40)! Just finished my 2nd term class, lots of positive self talk was needed. I'm up to $27hr, started at $19.22 September 2020! Thanks for the encouragement! Love you guys! ⚡⚡⚡

Bernal

Love my TP9SFX! It’d be my favorite if it was USA made. I’m jealous. I want to compete too. I imagine it’s the best way to train! It’s on my to do list.

Schmuckatelli

My wife surprised me two years ago and got me the TP9 SFx for Christmas. (Yes...she's a keeper.) It's also a 5.2" barrel with a ventilated slide, but unlike the METE, my SFx is marketed as a race gun. It comes with a Vortex red dot, which I have not put on the gun. I'm not a competition shooter, but I do like the long slides. Thanks for this awesome GRV. I always love learning about new guns, and this was a new to me. I was unaware that Canik made the METE, and of course, I had to tell the wife about it, because she also owns a Canik TP9 SF Elite.

Brandon conley

I love competition, it’s good training, it gets you committed to putting in some trigger time, it gives you some real world comparison to gauge how good you are at shooting and helps you strive to improve. Check your local ranges to see what they have to offer.

Hold Fast Joe

I would say 34 over this for just one reason. No cuts in the slide to gather dust dirt etc

Hold Fast Joe

Cool review! Long slides are awesome

Lon N

Yup, along with most other guns that are not a 1911 or 9/40 Glock factory frame. Kydex isn't tough to fabricate a holster out of..a "pretty" holster is a bit tougher. I've seen your talent at fabbing metal RP, playing with thermoformed plastic would be a breeze...and you could make it exactly to your liking.

ktnjr .

Love the Canik line up. I use the SFX to compete with.

Stan White

Already wanted one this doesn't help the credit card situation lol

Andrettski

A Canik GRV from Nutn made my Sunday night. I think I might go out on a ledge and say 'I THINK'? Nutn's TOP 5 striker fired polymer pistol mfg's in no order are Glock, Walther, Springfield, Canik, then a toss up between S&W and CZ for 5th place? I realize POU always weighs in strong but all things considered.

Daniel Gray Webb

I still enjoy my XD Tactical 5in, mine is a few years old so it is standard capacity. Has always shot amazing for me.

Andrettski

I got a TP9SA about 10 years ago. I just got my Elite Combat (Salient Arms) last month. The METE is looking like another home run, but I told myself my next 9mm is gonna be a Walther. (PDP, Q4 or Q5) I really like the long slides myself, I don't have to carry every gun I enjoy to shoot. Whatever makes me happy.

Shot442

I'm glad your Caniks work. I haven't been as lucky.

The Nutnfancy Project

Ruben I am proud of you! Way to go. You'll do great with pay going up and up. Electricians are sorely needed too and you providing an important service to society. Love you back!

The Nutnfancy Project

Your wife is awesome Schmuck! The long slides are indeed super cool and preferred by myself too. Hang on to that SFX, it's very similar to this one and very xlnt. Sean loves his too. Thanks for the support as always bro.

The Nutnfancy Project

"I use the SFX to compete with." You are wise grasshopper. Great choice in gun.

The Nutnfancy Project

You list is probably correct! I've never thought about it like that. They're all so xlnt and we are so blessed to have these cool guns in our lives. They make me happy and provide security.

The Nutnfancy Project

PDP is all tested no by me and I just have to get the table top done. It shot outstandingly and I liked it more than I thought I would. It's a bit chunky in the slide, rest top notch. Great red dot pistol.

The Nutnfancy Project

Sorry to hear that. I haven't any probs with the ones I've bought. Did you send it back for svc? You should.

Ron Vogele

Cant wait to watch. Love my sfx with the holosun. Very accurate. Have been wanting to pull the trigger and get my 3rd canik. Great guns all around

Cz-Bundy

Wyatt told me that I missed you by one day a when I was up there a couple weeks ago! I freaking swear I just miss you everytime I make a trip up north! Well either way. I ended up buyin a gun (like everytime I stop into gunnies)lol. So I will keep making my religious gunnies stop everytime I come up north so maybe I'll run into in the future nutn! If not I guess I'll just sit and BS with Wyatt like always lol. Thanks for all the years Nutn!

Jeff

I would love to see this compared to the PDP. The PDP shoots and feels so sweet, i think I will compare all future pistols against that. I Finally mounted an RMR on mine today, and it did not disappoint. The thing is a laser.

Joe Shmo

Congrats!! Never too late to learn and improve

Cyborg009

"METE" is a reference to to Mete Han, aka Modun Chanyu, the first Xiongnu Mongul Khan and, according to Turkic legend, the first person to mold Turkish speaking tribes into an army. We in the Modern West forget that for two millennia the greatest military threats to the West were the Persians/Iranians, the Monguls, and finally the Turks. However, the Turks and Iranians haven't. It's pretty amusing that Canik has named its premier pistol after a Mongul emperor, albeit one who kicked Han Chinese ass.

Richard Leonard

After the last Canik you tested I bought a TP9 SFx from Handgun Haven. I still can't believe that they can sell a pistol of this quality for that price!

Andrettski

If you don't mind me askin' R.V. , which specific Holosun is on your sfx?

Shawn Kuse

It looks like a sweet gun; however, I will stick with my already proven G34. Great vid to watch and learn though!

Ron Vogele

Not at all, its a 507C

Matthew Larson

Great review, Nutn! I've had an SFX on my list to get for awhile, but first I have to pay my CC debt down for a suppressor! The only thing holding me back from METE vs original SFX honestly is the sweet tungsten cerakote. If the METE SFX exists in that scheme I'll have to take a second look. I don't really care for blacked out rear sights and much prefer the three dots system as well.

Conner Fitzgerald

Hey Nutn, this is off topic, but I'd really love to see you review a WWSD2020 AR-15 (plus they're on sale at Brownells right now). Since you're an ounces equal pounds guy I think it would be awesome to hear your thoughts on a rifle that is under 6lbs out of box, and to get your take on the various "unique" features like the pencil barrel, lack of forward assist, the silent capture buffer, and the polymer KP-15 lower. Anyway, love your videos!

JDCoy

Love the Caniks, and love the fact that PPQ's and my new PDP all take the same Canik mags. Whenever I take a handgun class at FrontSight I use those 20 round Canik mags so I don't have to stop and load as often:) Last time I was there I won the competition at the end with my TP9SFX and got the coin to prove it. Barely beat a guy who forgot to take off the safety on his Beretta. Too many levers switches and knobs on those things imho, and that half second it took him to figure out gave me the win.

Conner Fitzgerald

I know, but I still think it'd be fun to hear his take on that rifle specifically

Powernoodle

I prefer the blacked-out rear sight. Its not trendy. It helps you juggle one ball instead of three.

Jack Davis

I own a TP9 SFX and love it! This pistol DOES make me want another Canik. It's my fault; you warned me to stop watching!! :) I set up my KelTec Sub 2K to use the Canik (Mec-gar) magazines and this gun would match up with my Olive Drab Sub 2K very well...

Derek W Tiller

6" version in 10mm would be sweet. 🐗

isaac

You had me sold in the first 10 min

Daniel Herb

Ohh man I might be making the rounds to the gun shops this weekend! Thats pretty sweet

David Spinks

Great review, placed an order for one. I actually handled one the other day too and it was sweet! I'm not seeing where the canik factory mags are readily available or really available anywhere- not interested in pro mags. Nutn have you or anyone else seen them available anywhere?

hoplite ⚔️

What a cool looking gun. I want a long slide eventually.

hoplite ⚔️

I think I may change my membership to a range that is active in competition. I want a trophy with a little statue of a dude shooting a pistol!

hoplite ⚔️

I’d like to know what the black dial pilot watch was form the desert testing.

Schmuckatelli

I would just sign up on GunMagWarehouse.com and you can opt to have them email you when the mags are in stock. I've done that before and it worked out. I now have 10 of the Shield Arms 15 rnd mags for my Glock 48 and those are very hard to find in stock.

Brandon conley

Our range just does cash prizes for 1-3 place. It basically pays you back for your range fees. I love the way it works. You just sign up for a time slot that works for you. Show up and shoot your course of fire, then head home. It’s very little waiting around.

Matt

Canik is legit. Thanks for the video Nut' n.

Willie Everett

I have three Canik with the SF Elite being my favorite. There is a SF METE that hasn't made it to the US yet.

Logan

Hey nutn I recently was given a 3 in ruger sp101 by my grandfather. I was going to use it for an all around gun. I have a chest rig that I would like to have the revolver fit in and I was curious how you think I should have the revolver set for the chest rig. I know it's not a great lbe gun but it was free and I a poor college student so ill take what I can get. Thank you for your help!

Logan

Thank you a lot! I appreciate it.

Shot442

Update: Picked up a Canik METE and function tested ok! Fired 2 full mags +1 of Tula steel case 115 grain with no issues

Porter3861

Darn you! Darn you! Darn you! You warned me. You told me not to watch. "No" I thought, "I can watch this and make it through without ordering one. I'm strong. I can handle it. I've done it before with your videos." I made it to minute 25:32. "Okay, Palmetto State Armory won't have them or they'll be more than I want to pay," I continued to fool myself. WHAT!? $556.48 all in w/ taxes and free shipping!?!? And just like that, you were right to post the warning. And now it's on the way. This'll be my first Canik. Thank you for the warnings, but I just wasn't strong enough on this one. Awesome review please keep it up, warnings and all. Semper Paratus

Joshua MacLee

Canik METE 9mm vs. Walther PDP 5". What would you by and why?

Big50

I checked this out at my LGS yesterday. Sooo much want!
