Taurus comes alive with another great gun...this is not the same company of old. They're doing some great guns now. But can the surprising Taurus 856 Ultralite  stand up to the Classic S&W Model 36. TacticalDoodle is here with me with the usual hilarity but we get down to business in the comparison with lots of in field shooting video of the 856 and other revolvers shown. This 15.6 oz aluminum frame revolver performs very well indeed!

Galloway trigger upgrade for the 856. 15 BUCKS!! This was the best upgrade ever.

DudeDudeDude

I find that when it comes to snubs the grips do in fact have a big influence on how easy or hard they are to shoot accurately. The grips suitable for pocket carry are a lot harder to hit with than the better grips that you can get away with for OWB carry.

Powernoodle

Well timed, sir. This one has been at the top of my short list for some time now. I must own too many guns because there are very few that I still covet. But this lightweight Taurus is one of them. Good times.

Greg Malcom

I have a Ruger LCR 357. Fun gun. Great for pocket carry as it comes out faster than a semi auto (even a micro like P365 OR LCP Max). Rounds limited of course, so it is a second cool carry for me in LPAC.

3jeep

I love the color options. If I’m going to carry a revolver for 2nd cool kicks, I might as well go for one the has sweet anodizing.

Tygre

YES! My favorite Taurus snub is the 450 in .45 Colt. Outrageous!

RowdyRon

Really cool wheel guns. TD nailed when mentioned checking the boxes. I saw that S&W 642 in the case, and knew I had to have it. Six rounds would be nice! Glad TD was available. Thanks Nutn.

Maggies_Drawers

Snub revolver definitely serves in my system. POU: Doing yard work, garage work, quick run to the gas station or wallyworld. Strapping up the standard carry would be a huge pain. LCRx 38+P in front pocket holster. Unobtrusive, light weight. Sure, rounds limited but as Papa Nutn taught us, better than not carrying at all.

Bernal

Yep!

Shawn Kuse

Wish S&W made a 642 with a 6 round cylinder!!

Nathan P Hubsch

Word of warning on buying a Mcusta Katana these days. They changed the model from the one Nutn reviewed without changing the info or pictures on many sites that sell them. I also got a bad one the first time I tried buying one, so their quality control might be lacking a little. Best to buy from Blade HQ just in case you have to return a dud.

Paul Griech

i prefer the taurus 445ti in 44spl

Matthew Hargis

Unfortunately my 856 has had problems. I have the stainless ultra lite and after 80 rds the lifter wouldn’t reliably rotate the cylinder in DA but would rotate with no problems utilizing the hammer. So it went back to Taurus after a pain trying to ship it. BTW, Taurus charges you to ship it back vs S&W which doesn’t for example. Anyway they returned it saying it was fine. It wasn’t. Same problem. I love this .38, especially for the price, 6 rd capes and the price I got it for. So I’m going to take it to a local gunsmith to figure this out. I’m super excited with the turnaround Taurus has had, but upset with this experience. Nutn, I’m glad yours worked out. Great review…Thanks -Sharkey

Taurus really fudged up their revolvers, once they got rid of their blueing. Rossi used to make similar models but they stopped too. Smith and Wesson messed up when they added the frame locks.

hoplite ⚔️

Thanks for the review. Don’t have any experience with revolvers. I think you guys are right that there becomes a collector interest after other FAs and systems are squared away. The blue color gives it a modern second cool addition.

Brad Fegan

Glad they are getting it right and reliable. Have a 650 CIA thats pretty decent.

DirtyPhil

Would love to hear a review on the chiappa rhino series- they are pricey- but are a great movie gun and remind me of the anime series trigun-

Kenny Bridges

Just recently snagged the 856 defender series 2 tone with black vz grips with a 3inch barrel. Sweet little piece. Gonna drop a Wilson combat spring kit in it here soon. That hammer spring is super stout in mine.

Daniel Gray Webb

Love my 856 ultra light, got it 6 months ago for around 350. It has been great and a total joy to shoot and carry. I carry it in a Galco classic light CL2-160.

Matthew Larson

Very cool gun! Glad to hear Taurus is turning around their reputation. I don't own a revolver yet, but I'm looking around. It would really be a 2nd cool novelty range type thing, really, but I still have items on a 1st cool basis to acquire! 😆

Jun Cho

Dang Nutn! Can't find these anywhere now! 😅

Schmuckatelli

14:45 "You'll see us in the insert footage shooting almost exclusively from double action. That's how good the trigger is." Meanwhile...Nutnfancy inserts footage of him shooting single-action. LMAO My first concealed carry gun was the Ruger LCR .357. I probably have dozens of holsters for it, as I was trying to find something comfortable and accessible. I finally settled on a simple Uncle Mike's pocket holster and carried the gun in a cargo pocket. I use the 5 Star Firearms speed loaders. I tried the HKS and did not like them as much as the 5-Star. The 5 Star speed loaders were able to fit without getting caught on the frame or grip of the LCR making reloading faster. Watch Comment: One of my Deep Blue Master 1Ks is a sword hand variation and I love it. Those hand DOMINATE the hard to read stick hands on the other models. The sword hands definitely do not need to be painted. They are very easy to read even in low light.

Emerson Evans

Down in southern Utah it seemed some PD was offloading a bunch of old beat up smiths... Pretty torn up rusted up condition for most of them (makes me think the PD was NOT southern Utah--we have no humidity) but there was one model 36 that was pristine, had some cool detective markings and PD serial numbers... 1978 after a quick check. I went home with it and am very happy. Just zero ammo to shoot it with lately

NatvMan

Thanks for the shout out Nutn! Keep up the good work, so many things going on in life. It makes it tough to keep up with the project. But really appreciate what you do here!

Mason Gotto

Love the review prefect timing because I have literally been looking at these. Also looking at the 617 it's a 7 shot 357 snub. You should check that out as well

Phillip Robinette McKracken

You just showed me the platform, and fortunately I just saw the concealed hammer version, that will match my walking, jogging style. Thanks. This will steer me away from charter arms. I have other taurus items, and they are reliable, and what you pay for. I get the tighter S&W design, but ... price... I hate when I'm trying to score a dimer in my autonomous zone, and need the extra round. :) TD is a snub carrier like me, so I'm sure he has the same issues. Had an 85 before I went fishing...

hoplite ⚔️

I want a Deep Blue M1000 2.5 with sword hands.

Phillip Robinette McKracken

I keep an extra $20 in my back pocket for "services'...haha. I'm waiting for my free Joe pipe to get delivered. Just spent my spare cash on duct tape to keep the tent dry.

Casey Jones

Good looking gun. I agree Taurus has shed its mediocrity and made a statement with their newest line of guns, and that’s “we’re here to compete.” All that means is the consumer wins! Thanks for the review.

Richard Leonard

TD...Show us how you paint the embeded logo. I've tried it on my Walther, it's not as easy as thought.

Shane Lukow

Enough already! Please review a cowboy gun in center fire. Please! It doesn't have to be a colt single action army but something. Thx for the revolver video love em.

Hold Fast Joe

Great review! Those fockewulfs are sweet planes! I have seen those taurus revolvers a lot and when I saw the color variations from what you have said over the years rang in my head.. Colors means it's selling and it's gonna be good! Did not disappoint in the review!

Nathan Simms aka Darkpriest

I might have picked one up (I am not a fan of revolvers) but all the cool color are sold out! :D

Carioca

hmm don't own any revolvers. This one might change that.

Andrew H

Nice. My favorite videos are Nutn and Doodle together, even better when in the bunker. Love my plain jane LCR 38 DAO. First gun I ever bought. Only 13.5 oz and fits great in my 5.11 pants pocket. Not the most accurate or fun gun to shoot, but at least I have a gun on my person. Cheers y'all.

Daniel Gray Webb

I have a titanium 617 and it's awesome, it handles 357 really well. I couldn't tell the difference in recoil between it and my GP100 even though the 617 is way lighter.

hoplite ⚔️

Yup. Had me at the LGS today trying stuff out. Held a Python, a 686, and a 617. Clerk suggested I try and hold one handed. Was surprised at how natural they felt one handed.

Bluegill097

Love the wheel guns. Thanks for the long awaited Taurus review! Wish I still had some disposable income to get me one. Also, my Deep Blue was some of my best money spent.

LoneWanderer360

I love wheel guns. From SAA clones to modern production. I've carried a Ruger LCR on quick trips for years. I also have a Taurus 85 that doesn't carry or shoot badly at all. Is the LCR better? Absolutely. However, it runs about $499 and I got the Taurus 85 barely used for $199. After owning 4 different Taurus revolvers, I don't have a single complaint about any of them.

Cory C

I love revolver content, I’d like to see a review of the Taurus 942 22lr, potential bok option

The Nutnfancy Project

I don't think many would watch that but I will see what my shops have, who knows?

Gilberto Esquivel

I swapped my 856 UL grips two years ago for Gorgeous Imported Cocobolo Thai Wood Grips...freaking transformed the revolver! So y'all just know I had start carrying it 'an-end-dicks' inside my belt....1980's Narco/Miami Vice Style (except without all the blow, benjy's, and bitches...)...its the only handgun I dare carry this way...and yes it's fun!

David Goodridge

If a snubbie was good enough for Frank Cannon, it’s good enough for me! Frank Cannon the hero of all of us old bald fat guys.

Thomas Baker

Great review! My first ever firearm was a Taurus 85, then a SW 649(which i still own). Love them wheelguns!

Bryan Palmer

17:12 to 17:43 had me cracking up lol. Wow man, that's the first time in forever that I've immediately wanted a wheel gun... Taurus is on to something!

Mason Gotto

I'm struggling with deciding between the 617 and the 856 I like both I wonder how 617 would conceal.

Zachary Patterson

I bought one of these a few months back. It is AMAZING for what the pistol is! I was SO impressed with the accuracy for just having “trench sights” and the weight for a 6 round capacity is well, impressive.

Tacticaldoodle

The S&W is just the fine point paint markers. As far as paints go, they aren't super durable over time, and gun cleaning, but they're super easy and they do a great job of just filling in the tracks of the logos as soon as you touch the tip to it. I've tried polish, model paint, and sharpies, and the end result can be hardier and more glossy, but dang it is it a whole lot of work to make sure you have it cleaned off when it's white, The smearing and discoloration tends to get everywhere

Daniel Gray Webb

It's a bigger piece for sure. I do owb in a leather holster when I do carry it. The 856 is way more portable and easy to carry, as well as more options for holsters too

Jeremy doblinger

Love the snub nose action! Love to carry them cause 2nd cool. Dude! How about the new keltec autos that just came out.. they look interesting and very sawc compliant in my opinion..

Clint Raby

Love that brushed bronze Spinnaker!

Daniel Herb

Awesome to see this review! I might have to get one of these as I am about to PCS to a "bad" state lol

April Cleaver

I love the video, I love the gun. I'm going to buy one.

Eric Ohme

I am one of those people that prefers to carry a revolver. I recently gave my 642 Smith to a buddy of mine who is a Sheriff’s deputy as a backup. Been carrying an LCP instead but this video has convinced me to take a hard look at this six, count them six, shot snubby!

Bruce A Piland

I’ve carried Glocks for years. Recently added an LCRx to my CCW. Wheelguns for the win.

Kyle Fiss

Glad to see another wheel gun and mixing it up with Taurus. I know you don't do many Ammunition reviews, But It would be really cool to see a Nutn 327 video. won't be for awhile since the ammo is un-obtainium but I can wait. Got a Sp101 in 327 and couldn't be happier.

AcumenGT

Ooof, my wallet. I had been considering a revolver alternative to my Springfield 911 9mm and I think you just sold me, on a Taurus of all manufacturers!

Bluegill097

Jealous, I really wanted one of those!

Kyle Fiss

I can offer it to Nutn if he wants to do a 3rd or 4th? SP101 review.
